Driving guidelines do not need changing. Tracks need changing!! If it is possible to drive 30 feet off the track and gain an advantage that is the fault of track design. It would be very simple to have a strip of grass or gravel at the edge of the circuit to penalize track limits, problem solved.

When will the FIA Stewards start focusing on penalizing the cause of an incident, rather than the result? A problem also is that some people appear to be above the rules. In one incident, George Russel got penalized for forcing Valtteri Bottas off the race track, yet Max Verstappen did the same thing, only much more egregiously (causing his and Lando's car to go off the track), and recieved no penality at all. Instead, they focus on whether Lando Norris gained an advantage as a result of Max losing control of his car to force both cars off track. The Stewards clearly treated Max as being above the rules. That is blatantly clear when you consider how they ruled in the Russel vs Bottas incident. This is why there is anger among fans over this. It looks like the FIA is helping Max win the driver's championship by them not penalizing him for a clear violation of the rules. Everyone that talks about the Max vs Norris incident look at it after Max's illegal move, and the focus is whether Norris gained an advantage, when had Max drove more professionally and made the turn, staying on the track, and giving Norris room to remain on the track (as the rules state) things could be much diffferent.
No its more of the rules allowing a driver to not brake for a corner. Thus getting aheead at the apex (Because he didnt brake to make the corner) Then when he goes wide also forcing the driver who otherwise would get a easy overtake on him if he made the corner go wide and off track!. If he braked harder to make the corner lando would be ahead at apex and he would get the penalty!
@@Cwg.Well said that man finally someone who gets it - can you work for FIA and change these stupid rules please 🙏 - so sick of seeing this year in year out - defend by all means but do it within track limits they need to sort this out it kills what is otherwise some fantastic racing.

@DavidJohnson-dc8lu Even if both got a penalty Lando basically had a race to forget... Max would still have gained points over Lando because he won the sprint. McLaren is comfortably ahead in the constructors. I don't see why this is even controversial, Lando didn't "lose" anything by that penalty
Intresting to hear the stewards gave Lando a 5 second penalty rather than 10 so the other option was 10 sec for Lando and 5 sec penalty for Max for going off track. I would like to see both onboards to see if Lando could make the corner because to me it looked like a game of chicken on the brakes between the 2 of them with the vital detail being who was ahead at the apex. I believe they need to start using temporary gravel traps like used in Austria this year at circuits where they wont allow gravel for the safety of bike riders.
Driver standard guidelines need a complete overhaul - Jenson hit the nail on the head with his commentary at the weekend with respect not making the corner himself - Max consistently takes the inside line which of course he is entitled to do but what confuses me greatly is he releases the brake to make himself ahead at the apex no one seems to be talking about the fact that he leaves the track himself to observers this looks like forcing another driver off the track - I'm not blaming Max as he is taking advantage of bad rules/guidelines - lap 1 turn 1 if you look at the angle and the trajectory of Max's car he solely had Lando in his sights and prevented Lando from making the corner how can this not be in some way penalised again leaving track to defend the position forcing both drivers off track and completely spoils what was otherwise an amazing piece of driving from both drivers - Please FIA don't make another catastrophic balls up like 2021 and just do the right thing and sort this out. If defending drivers leave the track and force others off this should be penalised in my opinion if the driver is no longer in the field of play either and has forced both drivers essentially to be outside of track limits it makes no sense that it carries no penalties as this is what caused the whole thing in the first, for sure defend but do it within track limits.

I'm not sure I agree with Ted's assertion that Sainz was Ferrari's form driver in Austin. Sainz was very fast and, yes, he overtook Leclerc in the sprint, but Leclerc admitted to over-managing his tyres in the sprint and felt he had a lot more performance in the tyres than he anticipated. I think what we saw is a period Leclerc is going to where he is learning to really optimise his tyre management for the race. He is now one of the top 3 drivers on the grid with race tyre management but he is still perfecting his technique for bringing the tyres in and it can get him into a bit of trouble. Over-managing his tyres was what lost him the Baku race as well. He brought in the tyres too gently and overestimated how easy it would be to overtake Piastri but I don't think we'll be seeing him makes those mistakes much anymore.
