It seems to me that Ronn Johnson is the right person to keep this project moving forward. I'm new to Heiser and have been reading Walton for many years. I've been following NT Wright since the 1990s. I've been a follower and financial supporter of the BibleProject for years. Engaging Heiser beginning in early 2024 has been enriching. I've read through the Bible annually for about 35 years. Each year I bring to my readings all that I've learned (remember, anyway) so as to check out the Scriptures in deeper ways. This year I'm paying attention to "the LORD of Hosts" language that appears afresh, say, in Luke 1. So, I'm grateful and happy for Ronn Johnson's leadership.

Believers have no sense of humility or shame, no morals or standards. Huckaby & other pastors endorsed Trumpism. The faith vocabulary causes the user to be avoided like the old woman with too many cats. Faith "comes not with peace, but sword." Faith comes with wolves dressed as sheep & preaching to the choir. Faith trades the last cow for a pocketful of magic beans & then expects everyone's appreciation.
I find that believers strike out with threats, when informed of reasoned denial, of the existence of a God outside of fiction.

"This idea that the divine and human worlds somehow collide at various places and at various times is so normal to the biblical writer as opposed to how we think today". I agree with that. Before I heard much of this divine council, I left the protestant church and began studying at synagogue with Jews who are believers in Jesus. I can tell you with some degree of confidence that this concept was never lost on Jews. And that they (probably even those not yet convinced of Christ) still are well aware of this concept. If you study carefully even of the most casual ancient texts (such as Genisis) you see it as assumption. Not as some great revelation. The Jews and ancient followers of יהוה began forming a picture of what was behind the veil before the veil was torn. It's remarkable. I desperately hope the church will discover the base of its religion and know Christianity is not a replacement of Judaism but its capstone.

Ron Johnson’s comment about using “assembly” instead of “council” sparked an interesting question. How should we( Christians) understand us as the “church”(ekklesia) another “ assembly “ in light of the Divine Council Worldview? Since we judge angels (1 Cor. 6) and are given thrones(Revelation 4) and are adopted as “sons of God”(Gal. 4) and given power to “become sons of God”(Jn. 1:12), how shall we then exercise this :
      1. In our everyday life
      2. In our gathering together (i.e. church services)

Thanks for the helpful discussion of where Walton fits in. It's seemed to me, having read almost every Lost World Series book, that Walton uses modern speech act theory to serve (almost like a mathematical function) to decide what the Bible affirms (illocutions, which we Bible believers should believe) and what is merely used to convey that meaning (locutions). We don't have to believe the references but only the affirmations. My other worry about Walton's view is his understanding of the Bible making rhetorical arguments and not syllogisms. With syllogisms, the truth of the conclusion (what is being affirmed by the argument) requires the premises of the argument to also be true. But, says Walton, with rhetorical arguments, the argument relies on is using what the speaker and audience understand in common (their shared worldview) to communicate something "new" which is the meaning the rhetorical argument seeks to convey. And that meaning is what is the affirmation we are to believe. This approach however, seems to imply that that shared understandings about the world in rhetorical arguments don't have to be true at all (and much of which we in the West reject for whatever reasons). Thanks for this video.

I would not want Johnson and Walton to debate. I would frame it as a conversation (not a debate) to better understand how we should understand what seem to be affirmations of a reality that we find so difficult in the West to believe. For Walton, affirmations are connected to the illocutions and not to the locutions. This seems to many people to leave the locutions in a state of "what do we do with these things they seem to really believe is true which they used to talk about things they want us to believe about God's world" when some of the things they really believed to be true we today know are not true about the physical world? Is the spiritual realm to be just lumped together with the other stuff we don't believe about the physical world? I think Ronn Johnson raises this as the point for a discussion. In Walton's book on Demons, Walton uses the language of he's making proposals for how to think about these things. So there is room for discussion and let's not make it adversarial please.

I don’t know that we can say we’re innocent bystanders. We don’t fully understand the whole spiritual realm and we didn’t probably from day one understand that there was a spiritual war going on from what we can read from scripture, but who knows prior to that maybe human beings fully understood the whole spiritual war between the angelic room, the lesser God and we can speculate on these things, but we don’t have any absolute assurances from scripture to say that that is true so I don’t believe we can sit back and say human being are just simply innocent victims that had no clue. I think our decisions have consequences.

One of the biggest impediments to spiritual advancement is the nonsense notion that all human incarnated souls are equal and have the same level of spiritual awareness. "We" as a species are hardly any sort of "one" except in having the same sort of DNA pointer to character archetypes in the realm of pure quantum consciousness. The soul's 12D merkaba is a quantum consciousness construct that underlines all physical forms, from universes to galaxies to stars and planets, but as creation progressed, the most interesting kind of character to play followed where God was incarnating personally. The adversary team are largely made up of disgruntled former chosen species and peoples that didn't follow God to the new chosen patterns of culture and government, pushing for a return to scenarios that proved to be dead ends. This is why so many fools think communism just hasn't been done right yet, when it represents the biggest club of past creations, the spiritual communist hive mind of the Lilithian shapeshifting hermaphrodite succubi/incubi demons

Instead of reserving comment until he familiarized himself with Walton’s teaching , he basically supported Walton’s view which I agree with Heiser is dangerous to the biblical text and a correct worldview. Also, Adam and Eve consciously chose to disobey God and supplant Him by becoming as Him. That’s pretty rebellious. Fruit not words indicate they rebelled. It was conscious not mistaken. They understood what they were doing. I’ve always been a bit uncomfortable with Johnson. Can’t explain it. I’ll have to evaluate him further and pray about it.
