      Thx so much, Mallory! Your kind words are highly appreciated! The preamp is really great, you'll enjoy it for sure! The strap is hand made by Sue Schuh (kissfish design). Good video - I appreciate the comment about moving 810 cabs as much as anything! These days I’m enjoying my Noble Preamp (I’ve seen it called a B15 in a box, and I’m inclined to agree.). I’m running that into a Catalinabread SFT for my SVT fix. All this through a Crown power amp into the house.

  • @ValterKabas
    @ValterKabas 6 лет назад +6

    Well, of course there is much more control on the real amp, but I really liked the "presence" from the pedal, in my headphones it sounds so clear, little package, cheap and effective pedal for sure.
    Nice review. Thanks

      Valter Kabas Yeah, that’s it! I love using the pedal in my IEM setup. I use it together with the Mooer Radar speaker sim. And that adds a lot to the „feel“ and the overall sound. I’ll do a video of this setup anytime soon! ;-) Thx a lot for watching and commenting!

    Thank you for this demo. I almost forgot I have this. I just used it the other day into an IR loader from NUX BP5 MLD . I used their 810 models (Aguilar and Ampeg ) as well as something from Shift Line (2 Ampeg 810 IR). I used the MLD preamp model and kept it flat. That preamp model seems to be the flat compare to the Aguilar and Star Classic preamp model. I use to have an SVT CL but I used Mesa cabs instead so my only experience with 810 is backline or playing rigs belonging to other people but I do know that sound. In my studio monitors, Yamaha HS8's, HS5's plus sub. I was very impressed with this pedal. Works well with a power amp as well. I pair this with my small rig a Jay Ganz power amp and an EA M-Line 1x12. I still have my Mesa 400 (not the plus . This one has 6550 tubes like the Ampeg )

    There is no question as to what is "better". The question is if the pedal is good, better than other SVT emulations like SansAmp... I think - possibly yes. I'm not happy with my SansAmp (bass driver v2). I'm considering to sell it and buy either this Ampeg pedal, or the Classic SansAmp.
    Thank you for a great video!

      The Ultra Lo on the pedal seems a bit too scooped, in my opinion as well. It probably isn´t an option that I personally will use regularly, whereas on the amp, I use it very often! Also, the amp adds a bit of compression, which really feels very nice while playing!

    Dear Michael, have a question... Have a 1964 Fender JB, passive of course, my very first pedal after the bass is the Ampeg Opto Compressor. With the level of the bass itself, the compressor doesn't work well because it needs a little bit more input level. I thought this Ampeg preamp could do the job but not sure when I saw the volume knob almost at 15 o'clock. Is the volume at 8 o'clock means no gain in regards to the input level signal ? I need this setup only in my office room where I have (like you) a sort of mini home studio. On stage I am using an Avalon U5 preamp -> dBx 160A all mounted in a 19" rack with 1 Mark Bass 104HF + 1 104HR cabinets... All of this could not be played in my office, the neighbors will not appreciate this in any way ! Thanks from Belgium, and I really love your channel and playing style, this is absolutely superb ;-) Cheers to all bass friends in the world.

    • @MichaelSchmittEleven
      @MichaelSchmittEleven  3 года назад +1

      Thx so much for your kind words. You're right, the Ampeg preamp doesn't offer much gain. If you push it too hard, it starts distorting. Do you have an effects insert on your amp? It's still a bit strange. The compressor shouldn't have problems with a passive instrument.
      All the best, stay safe and healthy!
      Greets to beautiful Belgium.

    In this brave new world of all in ears for local poor musicians like us I just ordered a used Classic analog pedal. The day I play another huge theater I’ll have my rig ready to go until then between my new Ampeg pedal and my BBE rackmount I’m ready to rock. No speaker cabinets to Cary. One Rick bass, one jazz bass, a two unit rack filled with preamp and cables and picks. Sure makes the 200 bucks I collect a lot easier to swallow I don’t have to use a big Ford truck either transport my gear. Greetings from Indiana

    Hello Michael!!! I watch this video often! As soon as I buy this pedal, the first thing I'm going to do is play your bassline!! :D Awesome video! Have you ever tested the scr-di? Today I read both manuals and the scr-di has a wider range of the dB upon the main frequencies... Some say that it has the real ampeg "mojo", bad the classic sounds really fine to me. Could you make a comparative video with both pedals?

    • @MichaelSchmittEleven
      @MichaelSchmittEleven  2 года назад +1

      Hi! Thx a lot for the nice comment. Glad, you've enjoyed it. I've tested the SCR-DI, but never side by side withe the Preamp only pedal. But the SCR-DI is definitely a good choice, if you need a DI out. In my IEM setup (which also includes a Mooer Radar Speaker Simulation), I'm more than happy with the Preamp pedal.
      Another way to go (which I also use more often these days), is the excellent BassFlyRig by Tech21. Its Sansamp section delivers many classic Ampeg tones, sounds way better than the Scrambler, when it comes to hotter, drive sounds, and offers an excellent Compressor, DI out and more, all in a very small package.

      @MichaelSchmittEleven  6 лет назад +3

      bassuskrachus81 The pedal sounds and feels extremely nice while playing. I will surely add a compressor pedal to it, in the live setting, but its dynamics are really extremely convincing. That’s what I tried to demonstrate by moving the position of the plucking hand, and doing a bit of slap. Sure, the SVT is better in this regard, but again, for its price and size, the Classic Analog Bass Preamp is very good, and it surely is a true “Ampeg”!
