In the demo, I probably preferred the EQ set flat and both the Ultra Lo and Hi on. I also really like the bass set to 40% mid and high around 60% and the Ultra Lo on and the Ultra Hi off. And while it's more aggressive than I usually go for, I like the bass and treble at 70-ish %, mid flat and both the Ultra Lo and Hi on.
I used to use the old school version VT bass pedal as an always on EQ-tone shaper...but it's been on the shelf and not on the board since picking up the Ampeg Classic
I do like the cab sim on the VT, but I think the ampeg gives you the EQ profile of an ampeg without placing any of its own character on the sound in terms of grit and harmonic content. It’s a great pedal if you love that classic ampeg profile!
Thank you for watching and supporting the channel, and the kind words! I’ve almost always put preamps at the start of my pedalboard. That comes from me being used to having them onboard my basses (eg. The Sadowsky preamp), where i want to shape my clean tone and then have that effected. The only time I’m putting a preamp pedal at the end of the pedalboard is if it’s for amp simulation, so a pedal like the Sansamp VT Bass DI I run at the end of the chain. T
I use the Ampeg 210 with this preamp built in. I'm hoping the pedal will sound the same and be backup for the amp as well as using it when we are "ampless" and only using iems live and studio. Your demo showed me it most likely is the same. I am a fan of the bass boost and treble cut sound. But I'm old school with a passive Danelectro longhorn. So, not looking to be modern.
Hi Tyler. Thank you for putting out these demos. I have a question. Have you tried using this pedal before the VT Bass DI? Wanted to know your thoughts on the same. Do they react well? As technically it’ll be two preamps. Cheers !
Aakash Agrawal thank you for the support! I can’t say I have used them together, but I think the ampeg pre gives a more modern Ampeg tone whilst the VT Bass is more in the vintage realm. You could definitely use the VT more for the drive and the Ampeg just for shaping the signal. That could bring out some interesting results! Thank you god supporting the channel again! T
This is such a good review, congratulations. Please, if you can help me, I have a question: Can I connect this Ampeg Preamp pedal (with no DI) directly to the interface? What happens if I connect the pedal directly to the interface? Thank you very much!!
Hey from Dublin. Super videos and superb channel. For bass cover video play alongs would this Preamp work with an Audio Interface with the following chain. Bass - Preamp - Audio Interface - Computer OR would I have to get the Ampeg SCRDI instead? Cheers. Niall 🎸
Hi Niall, providing your interface has Jack inputs or combi XLRs and jack inputs this would work well for your situation. This will just gives you the ability to enhance what’s going into your interface. Let me know if you have more questions! T
I've read that the pedal adds a significant amount of noise and that the biggest SCR DI? is less noisier.... What is your experience with the noise of both pedals? Thank you very much
"Pedal Bypassed" and a jazz bass, what's more, does a Sadowsky sound like that?? That's not the sound of a Sadowsy, much less the Ampeg Classic Analog Pedal which I know very well. That's just your Sound!
By far, FAR, the best review of this pedal. Thank you.
Thank you for watching! I appreciate it, and the kind words! T
Best reviewer on RUclips 😃👍
The Lockdowner thank you for watching! Very much appreciated, that’s the aim! T
As always, an excellent and thorough demo. Thank you for everything you do!!
0:50 bypassed
1:07 pedal on flat
2:59 ultra low (my favourite)
3:15 ultra high
2:43 ultra low & ultra high
Even just turning it on all flat makes such a difference!
Massively! There really is a certain “shape” to Ampeg sound and I think that makes it most apparent.
Just got this today...thanks for the heads up...trying it out tomorrow!
How did you like it? I’m looking to buy

Do you mean if the combination of Ampeg preamp + Tech21 VT bass DI degenerates, improves or leaves the sound intact?
Good review Tyler. I can't afford a more expensive preamp but I wouldn't want one that isn't good. Can you recommend it anyway? Thank you
The posicion of Preamp in the pedalboard? Before Modulation? In the End? After Compressor? Thx you're great teacher !!

Great performance! I like it. The signal is directly from bass to pedal to DAW? If so, it is impressing!!!
It is! T
I like Bass 80 mid 80 treble 0 thanks for this excellent video

Hi Tyler! Nice video and great sound! Where did you buy that Sadowsky and how much is it?
Hi Valerio! I bought it at Bass Gear here in the UK, who are sadly not currently trading. I paid around the £1400 mark, about 10 years ago! T

I wanna know the answer too)

Tyler Spicer Many thanks Tyler. I’m getting the Focusrite Scarlett 212 3rd Generation and I think that will do the trick. Best wishes 🎸

Will this preamp increase the output volume of a passive bass?? Kinda like making It active or like a Booster pedal? Thanks!

Btw, can i use preamp pedal with active bass?
Yes! No problem at all! T
@@TylerSpicer hmm, how to use onboard preamp with preamp pedal and eq part in combo amp? Is it neccesary? Any difficulty? Thanks for your reply.
65, 40, 65, off, off.
For real🤙🏼 I might turn ultra hi on in certain cases
