    @porscheguy09 6 лет назад +35

    You need to do the test with a rear wheel drive Chrysler 300 to even it out a little better. The Impala’s weight advantage is giving it the win every time. Even a RWD 300 is still heavier than the Impala by about 300-350 lbs but at least it would be closer to the Chevy. The Chrysler’s AWD gives it a slight boost off the line but after about 15 feet the Impala jumps ahead every time.

    all wheel drives are slower when opponents are matched with similar horsepower. At the crank the flywheel has to transfer power through the the differential to four wheels vs two that could be rwd or fwd. Plus the weight to support that setup can cost you in a race. In easier terms the engine has to work harder.

    The 300 weighs as much as 400 lbs more than the Impala- depending on the Impalas trim level. I'm surprised the 300 stayed as close as it did given the Impalas superior power to weight ratio. My only gripe with the Chevy is that it's FWD. It's actually an exceptional vehicle- I found it to feel tight and composed, and the 3.6 has some serious nuts when you give it the beans. The Chrysler feels similar in a lot of ways, just dialed back 20%; like softer if that makes any sense... The Chrysler 3.6 feels punchy, the ZF 8-speed is truly a gem in any vehicle it's used; and so it is here as well. Let's be honest though- you don't pick the V6 in any of Chrysler's large RWD sedans looking for true performance- even though the Pentastar V6 spins highly, vibration free- with a pleasing enough exhaust note . The myriad of V8 HEMI goodness is where all the action is at with these cars. Yes, the 300 only gets the 5.7 in the USA for some gay reason- but I digress. The 3.6 Impala beckons it's driver to push a little further on the accelerator- and rewards the senses the higher you rev it's V6; Clearly the GM corporate V6's DNA is vastly different from it's Chrysler contemporary; at 6500 rpm the GM 3.6 sounds like a frantic banshee about to pounce. The Chrysler meanwhile also spins smoothly at 6500 rpm - with enough throaty growl to sound good, but with 20% softness dialed into it; an audio marshmallow of sorts. Watching the 300 run down a stretch emitting the wrong exhaust note is a bit odd.

I've driven all our from time to time and have (with her permission) had a bit of 'fun' with them. That little engine is truly impressive. Fuel efficient, punchy, and rather impressive for a V6. Damn. Legends said the 300 AWD would lose to its competitors who had FWD.
    Note ~ the Chevy impala weighing 600 lbs lighter make up for the AWD that the 300 has. Although I believe that the 300 should have won because of its AWD, I remembered that the car is Chrysler made.

      mynameisrobert1217 it would have to have a considerable amount of more power to make it a fair race. AWD vehicles weigh more and lost power throughout the drivetrain as it goes through the powerband.

    The impala is probably the most comfortable mid size sedan I've ever driven. And I've driven the Accord, Camry, Altima, Fusion, and 300.

      Wrong. Impala is a large-size sedan, all other others you mentioned are mid-sized which have much less legroom and smaller trunk.

    I've got a 13 Impala with the V6 VVT engine. For being a full size car it's power is amazing.

    The other difference is that the Impala could do this around the clock for 2 years, while the Chrysler probably kicked a engine code after the second race. Check engine light all the way to the dealer.
