I´m not a fan of all these fan theories (except that one about Jessica Fletcher - that might be true :D). But more and more I think about this, the more I think this is the only "really happening" part of all that Evangelion - the rest was a dream based by Shinji enjoying too much sci-fi and pizza :D

Evangelion is the blueprint for a lot of anime stereotypes and even imagery. But the thing is, in this anime they’re actually written with care because they weren’t considered stereotypes at the time. The characters in this show are extremely human, and as a result the types of unhealthy behavior shown by pretty much every one of them is usually never rewarded or played for laughs. Asuka’s genuinely a fcked up teenager that’s extremely contradictory because she wants to be loved but can’t bring herself to be vulnerable enough to show love to others due to a lot of past trauma associated with similar experiences and a lack of a support system. She’s easily angered and gets defensive and upset when she feels ignored or unvalued, like in this scene. The situation they’re all in is far from a normal, healthy environment to spend their formative years. There’s even more going on here than that, but I can’t really go into it out of context. Anime creators just decided to turn tsunderes into something comedic because they’re too lazy to write them well. Similarly to how sexuality is almost always never taken seriously, or exaggerated to an absurd degree now, but this show actually takes it seriously. It’s got really complex female characters too. Shocking, I know. You really can’t get anything of substance from watching this brief 30 second clip of the show completely out of context, and clearly you’re biased against older anime in general and think it’s all like Sakura from Naruto. Also I’m confused about why you think she sexually assaulted him… all she did was pull his bed covers off. She’s a 14 year old girl, I doubt she knows what morning wood actually is lol, I didn’t until my late teens.

One of the reasons this anime is so good is that the regular social scenes are extremely lifelike and relatable. If you had to live with a woman and a feisty annoying girl as a boy, all of this is something you would deal with day-to-day. It includes the happy bits, the embarrassing bits, the weird romance & sexual tension that never leads to anything and in turn the sadness. Happiness and real romance is so close to grasping for everyone, but nobody gets there. It's not just romance revolving around the male where his wishes blatantly comes true. And imagine this in Japan, where people socialize so much less, where romance is more rare, this kind of plausible but extremely rare situation is a dream.
I believe I speak for the guys in this thread when I say that morning wood is like really weird the first time around, but after it keeps happening, you just kinda don't care anymore and react like Shinji does. Although I will say that we'd be a bit more defensive than that if a girl was the one about to see the- wood.

One of the reasons this anime is so good is that the regular social scenes are extremely lifelike and relatable. If you had to live with a woman and a feisty annoying girl as a boy, all of this is something you would deal with day-to-day. It includes the happy bits, the embarrassing bits, the weird romance & sexual tension that never leads to anything and in turn the sadness. Happiness and real romance is so close to grasping for everyone, but nobody gets there. It's not just romance revolving around the male where his wishes blatantly comes true. And imagine this in Japan, where people socialize so much less, where romance is more rare, this kind of plausible but extremely rare situation is a dream.

I believe I speak for the guys in this thread when I say that morning wood is like really weird the first time around, but after it keeps happening, you just kinda don't care anymore and react like Shinji does. True story: US Army, had a buddy in Basic Combat training ALMOST suffered this fate. He was slow waking up to get ready for PT, female drill sergeant ripped the covers off him, he QUICKLY flipped onto one side while screaming that he was awake; drill sergeant moved away, I suspect fear allowed this young man to eventually get up and prepare for the day.
If she is a drill sergeant, she has to be used to deal with men's natural things. Like periods for women, this happen to all men.
