The primary reason for unconditional US support for Israel is AIPAC's influence on politics and media.
Ian, maybe you could go to AIPAC and convince them that supporting the war in the Middle East is against their interests ? I mean, Israel's reputation is sinking, there is an ICJ case against them, but most importantly, Israel has become the least safe country for the Jews to live in. Constant air alarms are disrupting business, tourism and foreign investment is shrinking, emigration is increasing. And they are making more enemies by the hour. All this in the name of land ? In 21st century, when data is the most valuable thing ? That's irrationality of colossal scale.

Some dissonant thoughts: the American public is divided on what to do about both the wars Ukraine and Gaza, and given the pending election, no American president, not Biden now and not the next one, will be able to get the public behind even more expensive efforts to address the wars. And what hope exists that Israel will change its course regardless of American pleadings? And if the Trump is elected - well, he'll be pleased to throw Ukraine under the bus. One positive thought: American and European support for Ukraine is at least hurting Putin.

The US is a representative democracy. A representative is supposed to make the hard choices that maybe voters won't appreciate, but their lives will benefit from. Obamacare wasn't loved by every American, but President Obama thought it was a good idea because privatized healthcare was eating up more of our GDP than other industrialized nations and delivering worse results. He could have just said, "The American public is divided, I'm not wasting political capitol on that." But then what's the point of being President if you aren't going to spend political capital on important things you see as necessary?
The war in Gaza is eroding American integrity around the world. It's harming Ukraine's chances of winning the war because the US's condemnation rings hollow when the world looks at what Israel is doing with American support. The American support is key, because if the US withdrew aid and/or sanctioned Israel, if Israel did not change its course, no one would blame the US because it would no longer be supporting Israel. They would blame Israel only. As far as the American public, if American integrity leads to the decline of American power and we decline as a superpower, I doubt pro-Israeli Americans will be happy about that. Likewise, if Ukraine loses its war because of the war in Gaza, I doubt pro-Ukrainian Americans will be happy about that. And this is where American leadership comes in. We don't elect representatives to be paralyzed by the American public being divided. Politicians have the big picture in front of them to make informed decisions, whether they are popular or unpopular, that are best for the future of our country.

0:35 I can think of a few people who might not want the war to end. For example, those who profit from selling weapons.

"The Americans don't care about the Palestinans" - Neither do a lot of others in the Middle East due to past experiences; Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon to name a few. "The Chinese don't care about the Ukrainians" - True, they have their eyes elsewhere, especially the East Asian coastal area and those countries in Asia bordering China that have been aligned with Russia up until now.

"Global leadership" is not a real thing. Like all abstractions, it exists in the mind, not in the real world. Stop trying to "lead the world" and focus on leading your own country. The world is too big and will always resist any effort aimed at taming it.
Also these wars aren't happening because of the absence of the global hegemon. The global hegemon has encouraged and even fostered the conditions for these conflicts. How can one look at these wars and decry an "absence" or void? Russia-Ukraine has always been about putting distance between number 1 and number 2, not upholding rules. You want to be a leader so bad start by taking responsibility.

China does NOT fuel the Russian war effort by supplying weapons. The US does. That’s a false equivalence right there.

Actually he makes a very astute point. Do you see anything like the Iran nuclear deal prior to 2017 happening again. I don't. There aren't multilateral solutions being put forward because there aren't really any multilateral actors prepared to push them. If there is diplomatic pressure coming from all sides the conflicts don't lead to ceasefires or some kind of peaceful conclusion. And that is dangerous. South Korea is now threatening to enter the Ukrainian War on the Ukraine side as North Korea has joined the Russian side. There are increasing indications of entanglements that could ignite something far more dangerous including something nuclear. Part of the reason the Cold War existed when it was between the USSR and the USA is because of the threat of mutual destruction that Nuclear weapons brought to the table. I wonder if that is as prevalent a feeling. When I hear North Korea threatening a nuclear response to South Korea I think, how easily that could turn nasty. I think how nasty it could get in the European theater. Sorry but what worries me is the fact there hasn't been a sustained multilateral effort to curb the worst excesses and threats can become reality. Sorry but something nuclear this way comes. There is an urgency but it just doesn't seem to be urgent. And that concerns me.

@@3cosmo China sells stuff to Russia. Separating dual use products from regular items requires money and time and government bureaucracy. We always ask why doesn't China help with the Ukraine war or why don't Arab countries help with the Gaza war. Like what would they gain from helping? These are issues that are causing the US, Europe, Russia Ukraine, Israel and Palestinians problems. Everyone puts their national interests first and solving the problems of other countries with nothing given in return is not a national interests. China likes where it is, it's the US, Europe, Russia and Ukraine that's paying enormous costs. Why would China get involved?

If America was still a democratic republic the government might have some say in foreign affairs, but it is not. It is a corporate oligarchy, and as such constant war increases corporate profits. That why we threatened Russia with Ukraine NATO membership when we knew it would start a war and why we are unable to confront Israel about its extermination campaign in Gaza and the West Bank and its invasion of Lebanon. Our "government" does not work in the interest of our nation, it's sole purpose is to increase corporate profits for the different consolidated industry trusts that own it.

If you were advising Biden Harris, and f she wins, would you advise Biden to pardon Trump on Federal charges (I don't think anything else is in his purview). It may serve to neutralise MAGA and if Biden does it it would not tarnish Harris like what happened to Gerald Ford. Furthermore if he pardoned Trump and not his own son, that would show moral character
