This is the South’s Next Worker Uprising
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 25 апр 2024
- The UAW is about to flex worker power in the South once again. 7,300 workers at Daimler Truck & Thomas Built are ready to walk out and shut down 7 plants at midnight. The company made $5.8 billion last year, while workers’ wages aren’t even keeping up with inflation.

Unions are the answer to the plight of the workers! Big props to these workers to standing up and unionizing! Solidarity is getting stronger and stronger.
well said, pls keep saying it, every working person around the planet deserves to understand the importance of unions, as well as their right to unionise! global solidarity for all working people!
That's what they'll tell ya. I'll go for myself thanks. No need for me to make business agents wealthy. F union!
Not all unions are great. There are plenty of snakes lining their pockets with that game.
@@whois3581 @frankmorris4780 I agree, not every union is a good union (see police unions, but the AFL-CIO isn't a shining beacon of unionism either) but by and large, unions get people higher wages and better overall benefits than their non-union coworkers.

Solidarity with ALL Workers.
Keep the Faith.
"We never predicted labor exploitation would be exploited by labor to subvert capitalism," recalled the fire starter.
Or put another way,
"I would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for those meddling kids and their dog!"
Good for you guys at Thomas built. I used to work in NC for a company that moved down there from NY. Low pay and 0 benefits. I ended up going back to the previous place I worked in Ohio before I moved to NC. When I did that I worked 100 hours in 11 days in Ohio then drove back to NC and spent 16 days off . Did that for 11 years. Still made 30% more doing that than working full time in NC!
Solidarity from the UK, best of luck to our US brothers and sisters in their struggle.
No worker should be on food stamps!
BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY!
Commie much?
Worker's unions should discuss yearly profits and executive-to-worker pay ratios. Workers are the foundation! Workers make the business run!
we live in a representative democracy, except for where you get your healthcare, the means for housing, and food: where you spend 8 hours of your day + 1 hour commuting,
@@dilutioncreation1317 and who the president is!
would be no jobs at all without the owners and execs. the workers would still be living in caves
Executive pay should never - for *ANY* business - be more than 200x that of the lowest paid employee (temp or full time) working for the employer - to include *_interns_*
Get rid of minimum wage, let the market work that out, but implement maximum wages with all profits going into the company coffers for proper taxation. What is left could then be used to improve production facilities, worker pay, benefits, and lower product prices to make the company that much more competitive and allow it enjoy healthy growth.
Consultancy pay would cap out at 50x minimum. This would include executive stock options. Benefits and vacation time should be the same for all tiers of the business.
With such foundations in place the executives could still give themselves fat wage hikes... but they'd have to raise the minimum wage paid to their employees to get it.
200x a $10/hr wage is roughly 4 mil a year. Anyone who can't live damn comfortably on that is wasting the company's money.
Cooperative Businesses or real Employee Owned is the way
Any society with no concept of 'enough', just more, more, more, is fertile soil for a highly exploitative business culture
Still not Japan black company bad
also fertile soil for revolution, greed as we've seen these past decades is also a great excuse for a lot of angry poor people to bring out the guillotines! one would think the aristocrats would've learned their lessons from circa 1790, but apprently not...
Agreed!
As a previous NC resident and NC taxpayer, I am ashamed our taxes are going to fund the corporation and not the workers. Ive seen the good work these churches do to keep feeding everyone nor just food, but meat and vegetables. Ive seen working peoole with families struggle to get government help for food and rent, and be directed by NC government employeesto he churches. We already had a shortage of buses and bus drivers in the State because the government wasnt raising their wages and people werent gonna keep starving while doing the job. Now its also the people who make the buses. Drive around in small tow NC, youll see places that you wonder if the government forgot about them and let the town rot. This is so shameful.
eat the rich asap obviously, occupy wallstreet had it right a decade ago, and this idea has only become more relevant to society.
CEO’s used to make 20 times more than their average worker, now they make 350 times more! Their greed is out of control and hurting workers and their families as well as local economies.
Used to be when CEO/owner income went up, worker pay went up at a matching rate. At some point that ended and worker wages remained flat in comparison to CEO/owner pay.
The greed is what's killing this country. Does anyone know which administration this started in, really? I know Runny Raygun killed unions and started dicking workers but it didn't accelerate until later. So...which dikwad present was it? Clinton with Glass-Steagal?
I don’t that’s accurate
Thank Reagan and every president since, especially the Republican ones. T.Rump was only one step below Reagan for being the worst president for the labor class in the history of America.
Reading about the UAW's "win" here really annoys me. Even assuming the 100,000 world-wide employees got the max raise that the UAW site claims there would still be over $2.5 billion dollars in profit had this contract been in effect last year. Then you consider than it's actually only ~7,300 UAW employees and that most of them won't be getting the max raise and the union has effectively won back $250 million dollars in lost wages. Corporate profits like this are just stolen wages so globally, even after raises, this company will be stealing over $5 billion from its employees. At least that's how I see it.
Before someone whines, yes companies need to be profitable. But they don't need to be record profit every year to infinity profitable.
I am so inspired by the US workers atm! You're invigorating workers even here in the Nordics, where we have a very strong union history.
Get your proper rights and wages, friends! I'm sorry you have to fight this hard for them in 2024, but you're doing it; you're pushing that boulder and it is loosening visibly by now. All the very, very best from Denmark ❤
We NEED more UNIONS. POWER to the WORKERS ❤

Let's go!!!!
The 2 Tier salary differential is BOOOL SHEEET.
The workers United SHALL never be defeated UNITY is Strength!
These workers deserve better. A worker with a full time job should NEVER have to beg for charity meals to feed their family.
Agreed this levels of greed is repuslive.
What if you don't offer a skill set worth $15/hr ??
@@bigtobacco1098 Any business which expects any worker to work full time hours in any job without receiving a living wage is definitionally unethical. Does the economy exist to serve people, or do the people building it exist to serve the economy? I say the economy exists to serve the American people, and that means workers.

I wish Shawn Fain was running for president! Thank you Perfect Union. We need more information to get out to Americans about corporate greed...especially when it comes to the food industry. People would be truly horrified if they knew where their food comes from and how a handful of the greediest corporations are why we are paying so much for food. Buy as much as you can from your local farmers people!!
True. What are your thoughts on farmers market?
If Fain were to be president of the US he probably would eliminate the right-to-work laws in 26 states. I hate the requirement that workers join unions in order to keep their jobs in 24 other states, so, no, I would rather that a Republican be the president.
Leave Shawn Fain where he is. He is doing a great job. Vote for Biden and give him the House and Senate so he can do his job.
@@dancarlton7973 Not trying to attack you here, but a Republican would probably try to crush the right for anyone to be in a union or at the very least, make it a lot harder for someone to join one or make unions toothless. We're seeing people's abilities to actually live comfortably increase because of unions. If you put in the hard work, you should get in return the fruits of your labors, no? Money that YOU worked for, worked really hard for, should go to you. Instead, most of it is going to the CEO who doesn't do the labor. I agree that if someone doesn't want to be in a union, they shouldn't be forced to be in one, but workers should absolutely have easy access to them.
I love seeing these unions use their power to bring the worker up to where they belong. All the power to the workers!
Yes! I love seeing these workers knowing their worth and standing together to fight for it, if need be.
It’s also just so inspiring! I admire all of these folks fighting to be treated and compensated fairly. Solidarity!
The UAW got a contract at Thomasville Buses and other Daimler locations. It was ratified by a 95% vote. Great job brothers!
All power to the workers! Union strong 💪🏼

Union strong all day long!
Executive compensation is out of control. These corporations like the one I work for all do the same thing. Everything for the people that sit on their ass and nothing for the people that actually work.
It's not just compensation for the C suite, they're funneling billions of dollars to Wall Street robber barons through stock buybacks.
And then you have these POS governors coming out against unions in their states. I hope these unions only grow and start shutting these corporations down regularly. Shit's gotten ridiculous.
Solidarity Forever!
Keep going. Solidarity
I'm so happy to see workers unionizing!
Update: These people are now making $8/hr more than they were! I work for the Daimler plant in Cleveland, NC and we will all be getting the same pay at all 6 plants!
Solidarity forever.
Solidarity forever!
I'm rooting for you! ✊️💪
The issue is also the fact that CEO and much of exec pay is tied directly to stock performance. Unfortunately due to Jack Welch management tactics, execs and investors don’t seem to want to pay people more, they would rather reduce headcount :(
Of course the SOBs forget that after Welch was done GE went from a world leader to a shell of its former self. 😢
Wow I was trucking right by you guys in high point. Get it!
I’m no socialist but the way these big companies take government grants, make massive profits and still keep their workers on wages that leave them treading water is nothing short of gluttonous. I hope they get the pay rise they deserve, it’s a shame these big companies don’t pay dividends when the plant is performing well
Socialism would actually help here.... just sayin'.
Neo-Socialism is cancer imo, but the word Socialism basically means "democracy in economic power", which meant Workers had majority power, and there are a wide variety of solutions to that.
Also for Marx had a "bias from the bottom"
As I understand it, the promises made by Lenin (??), Stalin or Mao to serving the Working Class were nothing more than promises, the Working people had no direct Vote, so still no power.
If someone disagrees with that, tell me why, I am not so well informed on it.
@@pebblepod30Well in true socialism there's no distinction between workers and owners. All workers are owners and all owners are workers.
I'd disagree with your characterization of Lenin, Stalin, and Mao, but you may be technically correct that not all workers could vote, only members of the communist party could vote (but millions of workers were members of the communist party at the time).
Centrally planned governments didn't (and probably don't) work, but true socialism isn't centrally planned, every self organizing group makes decisions for themselves.
there is nothing wrong with being socialist
If you believe that Labor is the source of all wealth in a Civilization, as without labor there would be no Civilization, then you're very close to a Socialist.
If you believe that Workers create all value in a company--which they do--and those Workers deserve by divine right to at least have a say on how that value is managed, then you're a Socialist.
If you believe that the interests of Labor should be represented first and foremost in every level of society, then you're definitely a Socialist.
We can talk about the failures of Socialist experiments in the past 20th century--which led to technocratic, managerial, totalitarian party-states rather than actual Socialism, in which instead of Workers collectively and democratically owning and controlling their workplaces, state bureaucrats, party officials, and party-appointed planners did--but that's a different conversation.
Hell yes! We love wins for workers!

Incredibly insight into the struggle these people are going through while the higher ups are swimming in cash
It’s a shame we’ve come back to the era of robber baron's. I realize the video is in reference to unionization but as a whole I would love to see more employee owned business models in the future in America
Hearing how they have to live while working full time enrages me. Workers need to own these companies.

Go UAW!
It's TIME !for workers who make the PROFITS for corporations to STAND YOUR GROUND!!🔥
In many cases corporations have learned that it’s cheeper to pay overtime then it is to hire enough people. More people means more they have to spend on insurance and other benefits. Pay the people less so they need the over time, let them work longer hours, then you don’t need as many people.
Love there strength

I hope all of America unionize
We need way more unions. Let’s have more middle class. The divide between rich and poor is getting way too wide.
Happy for you guys at Thomas bus but we’re still voting no for the initial contract. We need more money off Top give us the whole 20%.
Caution. They will just send the jobs to Mexico...
But can members fight off AI robotics? The fight is very different than it was 20 years ago.
That is a very serious question which every worker will face in the next few yrs.

Nice. Im commenting just to help boost your comment and message up.
But;
Because I like discorse.
Money has an issue the past 400~500 years of economic history has had an underlying theme of trying to solve this issue after mathmatictions figured it out.
The issue? Money unspent has a value of 0. It doesnt matter if its saved in wealth or under your matress, money saved devalues the money value average causing inflation.
Now there is a solution that I believe would not be popular and would definitly align the anarchist left with the moat ardent right wingers, a 100% tax that pays an equal UBI. Since thats a mathmatic solution that technically would work but really would suck lets ignore it and I am opening up channels of disscussions for ways to track reputation that are more wholestic than just profits (I.E. I think anyone can agree that volunteering to walk the less abled across busy streets is valuable, but theres not a way to build wealth doing that)
And dont suffer the inflation problem. Bonus for methods that dont rely on electricity.
I personally think that we should issue everyone a punch to emboss a personalized signature and named sheets of thin recycled paper that can be stamped or written on for whatever you where doing, then the person, or people you where assiting can use the punch to say you participated. yay. It can be a sheet for a day as a cashier, or a sheet for a week but it can never transfer its a total sum collection incentive for transfering reputation. Its litterally a letter of reccomendation that just grows.
This seems to also solve the (minor) issue of sometimes we need directors by making managment a service provided and rated by the primary recipaint, the laborers instead of allowing perverse incentives in manageral/directive labor positions such as stealing from paychecks, taking undo credit, or shorting hours.
@@AnonymousAnarchist2money saved does not cause inflation. Government printing and run away spending caused inflation. As far as UBI as welfare instead of what we currently have. Sure, it would probably help decrease net government spending.
But a gold standard would make your money stronger. This is called deflation. And it makes your money saved stronger. It means saving money isn’t actually a problem. Of course, if you have strong enough deflation over a long enough period, you literally price out government set minimum wages because the price of everything is so cheap that hiring people costs more than what they produce. This could be solved by… idk. Removing minimum wage. But. At the end of the day. Everyone has to choose for themselves.
Anyway. Please go read some rothbard, Hayek, and hoppe. It changed my life and view of the current economic system and governments role in our lives… or better said their invasiveness.
@@TheWizardGamez Belive it or not there is more then one cause of inflation.
And the first one identified was money not being spent, hoarded by royal families.
@@TheWizardGamez And if your curious how, well think it through.
What happens if all the money is being held and not spent? What does a centeral governing body forced to do?
Print.
More.
@@AnonymousAnarchist2That's completely backwards. "Free money"from UBI, etc. is blown by shoppers, which drives up inflation!
Money saved or invested builds up the economy because banks lend it out and pay the depositors some of the interest!
If you have the self discipline to save and invest those "evil corporations" will be paying YOU dividends and capital gains!
Best Chris Pratt since Chris Pratt.
I'm starting to believe that CEO pay should be voted on. If a CEO wants a pay raise, the workers have to vote on it, and if it doesn't pass, they don't get a raise. And all of the money in the company should be completely transparent. CEOs have way too much power.
2:19 its good you know his wage for your own bartering but in this one scenario I don't see how that is ridiculous. I wouldn't want to be that guy stuck making less because you didn't feel my ability to negotiate for a higher wage was unfair.
Despite all the financial struggles i and my family faced, everything is finally falling into place! $47,000 weekly profit and riches I'll always praise the Lord

They should fight anyone anti union and debate them and force them to raise worker wages themselves if they disagree. If the worker does not understand the balance sheet they should be fired for being dumb.
If corporations & landlords wouldn't Price Gouge, then wages would not need to go up to cover their Price Gouging.
Got to know why this happens - what are the roots of such ways - it changes for a bit even for a long time, but it does as soon as possible come back strengthened revitalized and augmented meaner, how to deal with the causes?
Fully support American workers standing up to unchecked corporate power. It’s kept people down for too long. It’s behind the corruption that encourages our politicians to make decisions on behalf of corporations, not the people. It’s not enough to just survive anymore.
