I definitely agree with you. Putting the figures on the portal and then seeing them in game is still so awesome. Also, they just look cool when you have a big collection that you can display. But I think it makes sense if you want to use NFC cards for Skylanders that are very expensive or hard to get.
I'm probably gonna use the NFC cards for the expansion pack levels only, like Sunscraper Spire and Midnight Museum. Besides being cool terrain, it really makes no difference to me if I own the actual item.
Many Skylanders figures are also starting to die about half of my collection no longer works for some reason and it's almost entirely my Spyro and Giants figues
@@MarekCapybara Thats really unlucky, mine work perfectly, and some skylanders have been tested to work over 2 million times. Some die and some dont, the fact that you had a lot die is awful
I’m still completely on-board with using NFC cards. They’re cheaper, they allow me to access the game the way I want to, they’re easier to transport, and there’s no magic to ruin because the magic is already ruined now that I just know the technology behind it which I’ve known for years and I’m more a fan of the quality and fun of the gameplay than the immersion of the game. To a lot of people, the cool thing about Skylanders was putting the figures on the portal and seeing them appear in game, but all I really care about is the gameplay and the story. I will admit that it’s cooler to have physical characters as toys, but I think saving hundreds of dollars is a trade off that’s pretty worth it. If Skylanders does ever get more games though, I will absolutely get some of the actual figures and use cards on the side though like I do already because of how many Skylanders i’ve already gotten before I discovered NFC cards. (This is all just my opinion, I don’t have anything against the video creator’s opinions.)
I'm replaying the games after years after seeing my some of my figures not working so now since I'm in Imaginators all the figures are in the 50's and up so I'm seeing myself use some NFC cardsfor some characters
The magic is that you see the skylander “becoming alive” when you place in the portal, if you print the skylander image in the card would not have this same effect? You are seeing then “trapped” in the card and freeing then with the portal
The part where you said that “each figure has a story” hit too close to home. I have a somewhat big collection from what I can get for reasonably priced skylanders, and I remember getting each and every one, specifically some Trap Team Cores I got as a surprise after I had to do an inspection that took AGES to get done, and when I got home, there they were. I can remember like it was yesterday!
1. Buy Jingle Bell Chompy Mage 2. 3d print basic Chompy Mage 3. Replace JBCM with base Chompy Mage 4. Carefully extract and replace the NFC card and make your Chompy Mage!
As someone who uses NFC Cards, I absolutely understand your arguement here, The magic of placing the toy on the portal and having it come to life is something that can't be replicated with an NFC Card or Coin. However, For someone who doesn't have the money to purchase figures for anything more then like.. 40 - 45$ and with some figures going for upwards of 200$+, I Feel sometimes its better to bite the bullet. I've only ever purchased 5 NFC Items, A Scratch Card and 4 Coins containing the Light Yawn Trap, Dark Dagger Trap, Echo and Enigma. If I can I will always aim to purchase figures, But this was a case where I couldn't afford to spend that type of money for a single figure. So it Really comes down to a mix of Price + Accessibility for someone like me.
Definitely agree with your points! I picked up NFC cards mostly for unreleased figures (VVind up, Goldie, etc.) and senseis so i could max out my imaginators. The only drawback I've ever had with them, aside from the obvious, is that for whatever reason several of mine are "linked". They're all individual and different Skylanders, but if one of them dies in a level, they all show up as dead. can't say why that is, or whether it was an issue with production or side effect of me programming them. Regardless, they're nice to keep around for lesser-used figures.
Perfectly fine. If Activision could release their figures properly for imaginators, it wouldnt be a problem. I cant afford a $400 RoBow, or a $200 Chain Reaction, But if I can spend $60 on an NFC reader and Cards and have the same effect and be able to actually finish the games 100%, then I see no problem with that
I feel i only want to get nfc cards for the big three. Chompy mage, wild storm, and ro-bow. There is no way im gonna spend upwards of $300 for 1 figure but I still wanna play as them at least once
Now i don't use NFC card and i probably never will (i love the figures) but if i did i would have them as a deck of cards and when i use them i will pull them out with 2 fingers like yu-gi-oh and slam the cards on the portal so it looks like im summoning skylanders in the game for fun
i personally never cared about the figures nor collecting, i just liked playing the game. i’m so happy i now have nfc cards and can play as every skylander i never had. and honestly now i can sell all the skylander figures i already had
I agree that a big part of skylanders is collecting the figures. And I love collecting them. But as the years go by the figures that once defined our childhoods are not financially viable anymore. They’re extremely expensive especially to collect them all. And as others have stated to print the card and then add a picture of the skylander to it and display them in card binder sleeve.
Guys, i just like playing the game. So i use nsf cards because they're cheaper, and will last longer then the actual figures. That being said I do by the chase variant figures of my favorites (such as clear short cut). I just like the game and enjoy playing it, no reason for a war
I think the figures are actually better because it feels like you achieve something with a collection you don’t want a bunch of random card everywhere, another point is if you look at the back and it’s blank you will have to turn it around to see if it’s the skylander you want but with figures is clear who it is
Counter argument about buying figures if they were fairly priced it wouldn’t be a problem. Not everyone rich and can afford them. I do have some nfc cards for amiibos but they were a cheaper options then greed
The thing about the figures is that each character has... character. When I beat a challenge with say Bumble Blast, it feels like Bumble Blast did it, not me, and I'm like, "Good for him !", just like a proud parent. I don't see ever having that kind of attachment to a NFC card.
the thing is you can't entirely look down on NFC since the chips can revived dead Skylanders, my Wham-Shell is dead and I can go out find NFC chips and revive him, just take off the bottom and replace the chips, NFCs are the future of Skylanders when our figures starts dying
I have cards only for imaginators because I really don’t feel like buying those guys, but I feel it does mess with the enjoyment of the older games so I still would rather buy the figures for those
3:45 Honestly, you don't have to keep the NFC cards as... well, cards. You could carefully remove their NFC chip and place it into a model of the character. For example, if you have a 3D printer.
If I was ever to do nfc cards for skylanders then I would go the extra step putting custom card art on each card for every Skylander to make it look like Skylanders yugioh cards to make it feel special to use the cards
cards cannot be paint chipped or have pieces break off after a tumble, i know what you're saying and yes i loved the figures too, but the magic is ruined anyways if the Skylander figure has an arm or something else break off (r.i.p my legendary bouncer lmao)
I got myself a card reader and some cards but not for solely trying different skylanders, its for keeping them alive. I am interested in seeing if i can find whatever part of the card can still work even if i cut out a circle or something, place the circle inside the base of the skylander and boom, cool figure still working. Tree rex recently died and i want to try and keep them alive for my nephew (first time being a uncle), and i want to try and keep that magic of toys coming to life. It will take a couple years before he is old enough to play with them though.
Got back into skylanders a few months ago. Dug out my old collection, had a few rare ones, planned on displaying them till the dog had a field day on them. Most are unusable or just chewed up found out about nfc cards and will be using myself. Not too big on skylanders anymore and with me being impulsive, when I start a collection I have to finish it, also space and moneys a concern. Plan on making mini baskets of cards from each game printing out the characters on sticker paper making them look like the cards that came in box.
At my school we have a 3d printer and only me and my friend knows how to use it so we 3d print figures and put nfc stickers on the bottom so we can see our creation that we needed to wait a week just to get so the magic doesn’t really disappear
I use NFC emulator and sometimes emulate games on WiiU on PC. I justify this with the fact that in my country, there aren't many Skylanders sold on the used market and they are like 30-40€.
There is also the point that the NFC chip in the figure is meant to last and save data for years. NFC Cards burn out so easy and last barely 7 months before burning out with constant use, or if you put to much data on there.
i feel like it depends on how you approach the series and the characters... for me, i only ever used nfcs of wild storm and robow so i could access their special levels w/o shelling out a few hundred bucks for a pair of figures i don't really like the designs of, but even after that i still found myself collecting other figures later on bc i like the characters and i like having little guys on my shelf! i have a bunch of different color variants and duplicates in my legit collection simply bc they wouldn't look as cool on my shelf in card form ^_^
I've collected the skylanders figures from day one but as a fan of skylanders I've also got NFC card's versions of the figures as one day the figures chip will fail one day so when this happens I'll be able to put the card under the broken figures and restart gaming again
Well, I would love to buy ro bow or wild storm without cards but uh, that’s portably never gonna happen so sadly CARDS IT IS, but I’m not gonna buy one anytime soon, and luckily I have jingle bell choppy mage so I don’t need an nfc card for Chompy mage
I’d rather get NFC cards for gameplay and the figures for display where they wont get damaged and for if I can show my future kids what I played as a kid
I feel like the only reason to use nfc for skylanders isnt the cards but the nfc chips so you could like 3dprint your own skylanders with different poses and stuff and they work or nfc for the unnecessary rare skylanders that just dont exist basically
I know for me the only reason I’m getting NFC cards are for very expensive figures (that I already have) to have a duplicate so I can use both paths without having to reset them
yknow, i like playing the games with the real figures on normal occasions, but when im going somewhere and playing the game on dolphin or something, i use my nfc chips. or just when i dont have a figure yet, to test the skylander out and consider if i actually wanna buy it.
The only times i buy NFC cards is for rare Skylanders because they're, well, rare.. and Creation Crystals so that i can make their figures and see how they work in game.
As a kid I don't have the money to spend on all the figures so I do use cards but I will one day get a full collection of the figures when I get a job and money 😊
Every last character you named I still own new in box. Who woulda thought the value would jump so much?! Although I want to do this because it is so much easier than having 20 Skylanders still in the box sitting by my chair depending on the game. But, I did love swapping swap force characters. Best of both worlds maybe.
I do agree with you, i have recently started to colect them again since i stop playing on giants (dont really know why i did, at the moment didn´t like the swap-force concep so I quit XD), now i have gather a lot of skylanders from swap-force and trap team mostly and discorver yesterday about NFC cards, i will still continue collecting figures but idk maybe i´ll use it for the extra leves and such since i dont really care for those figures but the skylanders themselfs i would feel exactly as you describe, with no magic in playing again this games as i did when i was younger
I don't mind using nfc tokens/cards for superchargers and imaginators primarily for cost reasons. But with trap team and swap force because of the gimmickof the games it is worth it to get the figures. For Spyro's adventure and giants the figues and nfc will likely be roughly the same price regardless of which you choose.
I only have 4 NFC-cards bought from Ebay. I have Ro-Bow, Wild Storm, green Chompy Mage and VVind-Up! I think it works great for highly expensive skylanders, but I prefer the actual figures of course!💗
id love to have all the figurines. but im a kid in college, so in terms of money, we have no money. ill always cherish the figures i have, even if hex lost both of her arms but thats whatever, but if i get around to playing the games again id probably have to go to the cards sadly.
if you care about the figure you could always make your own with clay or a 3d priter, if you want that magic but dont want to spend a ton of money on figures.
arguably the best use that everyone overlooks with nfc cards is fixing skylanders with dead chips, I have fixed a dead astroblast and jawbreaker because of nfc cards
Hello! I’ve recently wanted to buy some NFC cards myself and I was wondering how the swap force characters would work with this method since you obviously have to swap top or bottom of the skylanders?
I honestly think it somewhat ruins the whole point of Skylanders. That being Toys to life. Granted If you wanted that one level without getting robo, just to get that level in imaginators. I feel like it's a matter of preference if you want the collection of the Skylanders vs Skylanders the nfc trading card game. I agree putting the figures on the portal is the best part about Skylanders imo.
Something I would like to say some people don't have hundreds of dollars to spend. Also skylanders are much more rare all you can find from stores are broken snapshots and cores.
I love collecting figures for my collection I don’t mind digital like you get them from the eshop like getting characters for smash bros as there skylanders that never seen from the previous games (better be elephant/mammoth)
I think NFC cards are fine but figures are better but for the expensive imaginators I would even consider them but for your average trigger happy I don’t see a reason
Thank you for saying what needed to be said Cloud Breaker. I couldn’t agree more, the main attraction of Skylanders are their toys to life gimmick and using NFC cards would completely remove the magic. Also if I start getting NFC cards, I feel that I won’t be able to go back to playing as regular skylanders which would suck
I see where you are coming from it is the defining feature of Skylanders put the figure down and you see it in game but some Skylanders are way too expensive and what if it's a character you really want to play as but that character ends up being 100+ dollars if the characters were still available for cheaper prices I would like figures more
I feel like a lot of this video is taking jabs at NFC cards. It felt like you brushed off the positives that they bring more to talk about the downsides while doing the opposite for the figures. Like at 11:49 you say “if you just don’t care about the Skylanders magic.” Like yeah I care about that magic but this game costs hundreds to thousands of dollars to collect and I’m going to mix my collection because I’m not going to put the same amount I spent on my pc to make sure the character I put down on the portal is the same as is in the game. Yes it’s still cooler without NFC chips and there is less charm to them, but there is still some charm of that being “my” character. That’s not just Washbuckler, that’s “my” washbuckler that I put into the game.
“High quality figurines”… I love Skylanders, I have almost all of them, but boy do I disagree with that statement. Wolfgang is probably the most hideous figure of them all, and they’re part of the latest game. You can tell they were mass produced, and while some figures are fantastic, many of them are not that good.
IM 16 WITH A BROKE FAMILY THATS WHY I WANT NFT CARDS I HAVE LIKE 80% OF ALL SKYLANDERS SO IWANT NFT CARDS FOR THE REST OF THE SKYLANDERS ops i used caps
I mostly collect actual figures. I will only use NFC cards/chips for expensive skylanders... and expensive shit. Sellers, please stop selling traps for over 20 bucks. Please.

We can also save our skylanders and store our data with them, i mean, if something terrible like nfc chib dying happens.

Yea, and I understand as well about the convenience and never using figures but I some how stop my self from using cards for non-rares.
The only 3 times i think nfc's are justified are
1 Not having the money to collect
2 95% of Imaginators' stuff
3 accessories like traps and levels
I have to really agree, I want to play as many Skylanders as possible but Money isn’t there at the moment.

I swear your entire audience has already seen this video early because of yoshi and ryza
😭
Bro just restarted the same point 50 times💀
Hello! I’ve recently wanted to buy some NFC cards myself and I was wondering how the swap force characters would work with this method since you obviously have to swap top or bottom of the skylanders?
I use NFC cards but if I can I try 3D printing the figures
I honestly think it somewhat ruins the whole point of Skylanders. That being Toys to life. Granted If you wanted that one level without getting robo, just to get that level in imaginators. I feel like it's a matter of preference if you want the collection of the Skylanders vs Skylanders the nfc trading card game. I agree putting the figures on the portal is the best part about Skylanders imo.
Only times i would use nfc cards are
A skylander that you have dumped yourself
unused skylanders
This talk and how theses work is making me question something more then ever, how on earth did swap force know which combo i had!?
NFC cards= hotel room keys before they are room keys
I want to use nfc cards just because I don’t have enough money to buy a lot of skylanders
ill only use NFC cards for figures i want to test before buying, this is just incase the skylander i buy is complete dog poo
i agree with the cards for most of Imaginators' stuff and also a few pricey ones but mostly id way rater the figures
I truly believe nfc cards are the way to go because I just love the gameplay of skylanders enough to justify it in my mind
I only use NFC cards when I don't have the figure. As soon as I have the skylander I use it instead of the NFC card
new fear unlocked: my skylanders nfc chip dying. Can they be replaced?
im new. played as a kid but forgot
95 views in 37 seconds wow impressive
Something I would like to say some people don't have hundreds of dollars to spend. Also skylanders are much more rare all you can find from stores are broken snapshots and cores.
I love collecting figures for my collection I don’t mind digital like you get them from the eshop like getting characters for smash bros as there skylanders that never seen from the previous games (better be elephant/mammoth)
I think NFC cards are fine but figures are better but for the expensive imaginators I would even consider them but for your average trigger happy I don’t see a reason
I don't really see myself using nfc cards I rather use the figures
... what if i just want my custom skylander in the game and as a figure
Apparently I got member let’s go??????
finally dude
@@Cloud_Breaker now I can use the cool emojis
I still think you should make a video on replacing every smash bros character with an identical skylander for example: wildstorm as Ike.
Thats super ambitious, but possible ;)
Ignitor as Roy
For me other than the price
There aren't skylanders in my country. And i will need to find a portal and discs except supercharges i can buy it digital
NFC cards don’t let me admire the figures (I admire golden queens figure a lot)
facts bro
do the nfc cards work for the nintendo switch?
Nfc cards are mid ngl
However there are only 4 that I would get
Volcanic vault, the two blue imaginite chests, and the ufo hat
There should definitely be a new skylanders game
yeah that’d be nice
Imagine not being a member
U right, don't use nfc cards. Just use an Emulator
IM 16 WITH A BROKE FAMILY THATS WHY I WANT NFT CARDS I HAVE LIKE 80% OF ALL SKYLANDERS SO IWANT NFT CARDS FOR THE REST OF THE SKYLANDERS ops i used caps
When did I get member again
last stream i think
If they made a new game I’d prefer all digital to save my wallet.
facts that'd be nice
the magic is gone with the scalping and prices, dont' care about them now
I mostly collect actual figures. I will only use NFC cards/chips for expensive skylanders... and expensive shit.
Sellers, please stop selling traps for over 20 bucks. Please.
Isn’t using nfc cards basically stealing
Wait since when am I a member
yoshi gifted like 50 memberships

Can it work on ps5?
