Crazy story, I was working on a Whoopi Goldberg film in Charlotte, NC called Eddie. The whole time there was this lady eyeing me down and as chance may have it, we ended up sitting next to each other and began talking. She apologized for staring and told me I looked familiar, but during the conversation my music came up. She told me to come by her husband’s office and bring a demo. She felt I had a good look and who knows, maybe I can have a place on her husband’s label. So I went and that’s when I met Max Gousse. I was shocked to see that a label connected to Adina Howard, Michael Speaks, etc was hidden in plain sight in Charlotte, NC.
For some reason Mr Gousse never really listened to my music, but it was one of the many awesome memories I’ll never forget.

I probably said “ Lawdhavemercy” out loud at least 50 or 60 times during this interview…in my opinion, it was a lack of promotion and distribution after she left East West Records…basically she was doing what SZA and several others did just a few years ago and what Donna Summer , Betty Wright, and Millie Jackson as well as Grace Jones did before Her…” My Nasty Grind” is a beautiful song and I always felt like she needed a more prolific or well connected producer/songwriter to collaborate with…the knowledge that she is single now…OMG!
