Hey man, I'm checking out this video because I'm actually considering getting either a C5 Z06 or a C6 6.0. They are the same price, and I would be heavily modifying either one as a track car and a roadtrip boy racer type of car. Which one should I get?
Few years back i scored a ls6 outta a 04' zo6 that I tore down to refresh and gaped for boost. I was amazed at the little differances I found the ls6 had vs my gen 3 Ls1, L33 and other ls i dug into not only it had the gen 4 rods and head bolts but also found where GM used slightly better matched rods and pistons, shorter pushrods but longer valves and tighter tolerances, i also found areas thru the block where they took the time to smooth and deburr edges by hand. It just screamed higher standards and quality The ls6 was definitly the cats meow before the ls7 came out My L33 was built almost exactly the same time but no way near the precision and standards they put into their thoroughbred vette motor
GM also used a differant dyno with the LS2. The LS2 was HP was under rated. Some have seen up to 407hp stock. BOTH are fast. Awsome engines. The LS2 seems more alive down in the lower power curve for Daily driving. LS6 has more power up top. Its Feel more raw, and rowdy. LS2 feels more Refined. I love them both!!
Me and my friends were buying these cars when they were new. I still have my c5z. The 350hp ls1 ran side by side to a ls2 c6. The c5z was quicker all around because of power and transmission gearing. All the little things are neat to discuss and bench race, but the fact is that the c6 ls2 cars were underachievers.

Lmao it's not the engine that just up and kills rod bearings. It's the oil pan design. Get a baffled oil pan or simply run 7 quarts rather than 6. Easy fix. High flow oil pump helps too. But it's 99% due to oil pan design.
First time i felt a ls6 was in a c5 z06, a 405 horse car and that thing was nasty. Completely stock but it rips, like a crazy cart. And by that time i had already rode in ls7 and ls3 vettes and felt their power but the ls6 still holds a spot in my mind for nice motors
Now, how about modding a corvette LS1 with all upgrades found in the LS6, as they're the same engine. The changes are pretty well known, even stated publicly by GM; a LS1 would be much, much cheaper than the LS2 and 6. Just saying.
First and foremost, I don’t know nearly as much as all you guys, but I did have a 2011 Camaro with the LS three and all that was done to that engine was headers and I’m telling you that engine was a fucking beast. I beat on that car so much it never broke and also on fuel when I wanted to, take it easy. I love Gm engines.
Just saw a GTO 1969 with a LS2 engine in it with a 6 speed trans . What are anyones thoughts on the engine and trans that was put in this classic GTO Thanks .....
Is it easier to stay in the same 'generation' when swapping? For example 2000 Silverado with LS1/LS6, and 2007 silverado with LS2/LS3/LS7/LS9? Does it really matter as far as the computer, transmissions, etc.? I'd love a 2000 reg. cab shortbox (favorite bodystyle) with an LS7 and built 4l60/4L80, or better yet- Corvette 6spd! Would it be cheaper/easier to 'punch out' the 5.3 out to 6.0 or 6.2 to 'make' an LS2 or LS3? I'm a big fan of bang for buck and simplicity, which way to go?
All LS engines should have the same mounting points and are the same actual size(besides any blowers installed on the LSA and LS9). But that’s about all I can say. I don’t know how well each vehicles computer will respond to the new engine. People have put many LS7s into c5 corvettes, but most people on the stock computer have idling issues and end up replacing the ECU for a stronger one. All I can say is the blocks, and actual engines are the same dimensions. But you may have trouble with any forced induction variants and the LS7(it’s a dry sump engine, all others are wet sump).
Punch the 5.3 to 3.903 and do a 4" stroke crank. Stout 383/6.3L, and you get an iron block, too. Put about .030" of ring gap and feed that thing some boost.
Ls2 is better lol like why is this a discussion the ls2 and be bored and stroked to 400+ cubic inches and the 4 in bore plus better head and intake options like stop it
Y’all people need to label the right LS6! I keep getting confused on the video I’m clicking 🤣 You got the LS6 5.4L and the LS6 7.2L 454? LS6 454 from the 70s is more beast than the LS6 from the 2000s
@@Dustrunnersauto nice, they can take up to 850hp with the newer t7 headgasted and 1.1mm shaved from the pistons. Which are cast. only the crank is forged.
