M:tGO Modern: At High Noon, Teferi will let us and only us cast all the spells!

  • Ah power creep. It's an undeniable fact of M:tG card design. This time, I'm not complaining, because Outlaws of Thunder Junction adds an amazing power crept piece to a favorite brew of mine! High Noon from OTJ is a vastly improved Rule of Law! Not only is it one mana less for the identical effect, it also has an activated ability stapled to it allowing us to sac it and pay 5 mana to fling a Lava Axe wherever we want! This additional text is an absolute godsend for my 8 Mand prison shell that suffered from a lack of speedy wincons! 8 Mand is a Jeskai prison deck built around the Rule of Law effect, which restricts both players to casting only one spell per turn, and the Teferi, Time Raveller effect, which prevents our opponents from casting spells on our turn. The combination of these two effects is that our opponents will only be able to cast one spell per turn cycle, and only on their turn (hopefully at sorcery speed). That's a hefty restriction that makes it easy to lock them more or less completely out of the game! With our 8 Remand effects, we'll counter their 1 play per turn cycle for only 2 mana and dig through our deck in the process! This time, we're adding Spell Queller and Subtlety for some extra spell denial at instant speed stapled on to flying bodies that only need to attack enough to bring our opponents within range of the High Noon burns! Add to the mix all the interaction you would expect from Jeskai in Modern (Lightning Bolt, Prismatic Ending and Archmage's Charm) and we've got a pretty potent control deck that should be able to tussle with the heavy hitters of Modern and possibly get some wins! This deck is an absolute blast to play and this is definitely the best build of the concept by far. Yee haw!!

Super interesting concept. This list plus getting a new job may have me get into modern with my own version of this deck. A little more aggressive with 3 brazen borrower and 4 preordain instead of subtlety fevered visions and reprieve. Considering the 36th main deck card at the moment as either prismatic ending or a planeswalker that wins the game (JtMS, Big Teferi or Ajani Vengeant if I want to get a little spicy). Hope to see more of the deck if you decide to keep iterating on it

This deck looks really fun! I always loved the old Delver tempo decks from the early days of modern, and this feels like it plays similarly to those while being a bit less aggro. I will probably build this list or something similar as I am at a point where I want to start playing Modern again after a 7 year break.

In match one, game 3, why didnt you just play Archon of Emeria over teferi? That would of given you lethal for your next turn.

Yeah, I totally punted that game in a number of ways. I really snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Thanks!

you could play moderation to gain even more card advantage, also instead of path to exile you should maybe try running solitudes in the side?

Thanks for the suggestions! I don't think I can spare the card slot for Moderation. I would only ever play it if I already have a High Noon effect on the table since I would not want to disadvantage just myself. Solitude could definitely sub for a Path or 2 or possible for Subtlety
