We were listening to this song when I realized I was in love with the girl I was listening with. A few months later Ben Rector played at our university and we sent together and afterward we decided to start dating. We got married a year ago and we are going to see him live in April.
Dallen Esplin that’s a crazy cool story!
When?
Cute story bro
i guess Im asking randomly but does any of you know a way to get back into an Instagram account..?
I somehow lost the account password. I would love any assistance you can give me
@Matthew Rocky instablaster =)
what i love the most is that it was recorded before whitney died, so we all know he covered it because he truly admired her and the song not just because she died
2 things happen when i listen to this:
1) i get goosebumps
2) I am immediately put into a great mood
Best male cover of this song, 10 years ago and today. What a pleasant voice!
All of his songs makes me get in a better mood ! Thank you Ben !
Nine years after your original comment, my sentiment is exactly the same.🥰
cool how everyone in this band looks like each other, and wear same outfit!
you know it's the same person, right? 😂
T H A Y S E wooosh my dude
truly
Boyband material
@@ThayseCabral ok Miss Obvious
I normally don't like people covering Whitney's songs, but this is really EXCELLENT! Very nice!
2020 anyone??? This rendition never gets old!
ok i bought the live in denver version, but i want this one specifically. Is it found anywhere??
@@antonioenrico I'm not sure...I've looked for it on Spotify...but I think only youtube has it
2022 still 🔥
This artist is so underrated!
This was the song that introduced me to Ben Rector. Been obsessed with his music ever since! His latest album is a mix of nostalgia for days gone by and the newfound wonder of being a father. Keep playing Ben!
Nah. Seen this guy live multiple times.
Between hearing this and him live, it's indistinguishable.
Definitely not auto tune.
Just his voice.
Landon Jordon Saying a singer is using auto tune doesn't mean they are bad. There is clearly auto tune on the beginning of this track. Ben Rector is a great singer with or without it.
Landon Jordon COOL NAME BRAH
Sorry, but you don't know what you're talking about. Autotune leaves tell tale acoustic signatures that simply are not present here. You're just talking out of your ass to try to sound informed.
I'm afraid to say this but there is 100% autotune on this. Ben is amazing and can do everything live, I know that for a fact. But this vocal track is soaked in it.
The vocal track has several layers of echo as well as overdubbing in a few places. It was not "soaked in" autotuning.
Wow- if you had told me that anyone had remade this song and i should listen to it, let alone a man, let alone, well ANYONE, I would have said, “yeah I’ll pass, thanks!” But after listening to many of your songs on the drive to and from work, I decided why not listen and I’m glad that I did because this was so much fun and so creative. I played it three times in a row. Thanks for the music!❤
Been browsing through different covers of this song. This is the only cover that gives justice to Whitney.
Can't believe it's been 10yrs since this cover came out.. still one of my favorite covers of this Whitney Houston hit 😍🥰
his version of Whitney Houston's song made my heart smile... LOVE IT
I discovered this gem when "Old Friends" got recommended on my RUclips. He definitely strums your heartstrings. Such a delight to listen to your music.
Is this serious? He's incredible... probably the best kept secret.
Brilliant musical mind he is😁
Old friends is a great song by him
He is just sooo 😭💗
4 years late to this party but Whitney would approve of this take on one of her biggest hits--Love it ! Bravo !
What a lovely tribute by such a gifted musician. Thanks Ben.
I'm so happy this version is in the world. Soul-stirring and inspiring. Who cares when it was made...
I had searched, what feels like for ever, for the perfect song to walk down the aisle to at my wedding. I came upon this one and knew it was perfect! I love your cover!
Kristin YESSSS!
@@reinaasano9253 this was my first dance with my husband at our wedding!
This is my favorite song of Whitney and to hear this version makes me smile and feel better. :)
THIS
IS
SO
GOOD
Real talent here. Real musician
Saw him perform this live in Austin, i can respectfully disagree with the auto tune comments. Hard to distinguish this from him live-he's a great singer.
I think he is a great singer as well . However, I do want to make it known that auto tune is also used lived these days . So he could be using it then as well . I don't fault anyone for it . I use it as well . The way it works out is .. if you are a terrible singer and you use auto tune , you can really tell it's there ( like T-pain) .. But if you are a good singer it isnt noticeable . Since you can barely tell it is being used here, I'd say that gives more proof that he IS a good singer .
From his singing, it's most likely that his voice wasn't modulated. I think it's because his tone is very clean, and he's got voice great control, so it might lead a few people to think it might be autotuned. If Dolly Parton were to release her songs today, there'd probably be people who would think that she was autotuned as well.
Ben is a phenomenal singer, he doesn't need autotune whatsoever. But this track 100% has it all over his vocals. You can hear the "silkiness" in the longer notes he's holding. That is the autotune turning all the fluctuations from the natural human voice into one continuous note. I wish it didn't have autotune, cause I know it would sound equally as good. But the nature of production these days is to put it on as a safe haven, and to enhance the vocals that extra "little" bit
Every single artist that has songs on the radio uses autotune or a version of it. Mariah Carey Adele all the way down to Ben Rector. If you dont believe me
watch the video "story behind men who drive me places performance" and you'll hear his raw unedited dry vocal track. If you dont hear the difference then you have
a terrible ear for music and thats ok. Ben Rector is a GREAT singer. Good or bad though they all use autotune and its no exception in this video. I can hear it as soon as 11 seconds in on this song when he sings the word "hour".
@@user-eb1lq1zx7v Listen to T-Pain on NPR Tiny desk. T-Pain can actually sing w/o autotune... and very, very well.
Rock on Ben Rector and David Phelps... THE best. Looking forward to some praise music from you.
Wow. I really REALLY wish this was available on iTunes.
Hi Melody, the song is now available on iTunes: itunes.apple.com/us/album/live-in-denver/id917010861
+Melody B. omg he replied to u
Is this version (studio) available anywhere for purchase? Trying to use it for my wedding, but don't want the live version if possible!
Sharlene Nichols You could always use a RUclips to MP3 ripper.
DRAG HA
Can't stop listening to this. Tippy-top notch!
it was posted 9 years ago and it's my first time to hear this cover... I'm too late
I'm obsessed with this...seriously. obsessed.
2019, and i still watching this. you are amazing Ben!
Incredible talent. Can't wait to see his career take off even more that it already has.
This man should get way more credit and recintion for his amazing singing skills, I mean really. Hes alot better then some rich, and famous singers out there.
This is how you should flaunt your God given talent. Oh, I feel inspired!!
wish this version was on spotify ! amazing talent dude !
Just heard about Ben Rector! And he is AMAZING!
Love this! Thanks, Ben, for such a fantastic cover. RIP Whitney.
That little guitar fill between 1:08-1:20.. awesome! I ALWAYS come back to Ben.
I love this version. Im a new fan of this guy.. :)
He played at my college campus last weekend. He closed with this song and it was awesome!
I didn’t think I could like this song more. Turns out I was wrong! Your singing is brilliant - keep it uuuuup
7 years later, still gold. Ben’s covers are bar none.
dude i'm still freaking out about this.you are so talented and wonderful it hurts
Шуио ты!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WAIIIT I SAW YOU ON RUclips THE OTHER DAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
You can just tell that this is a man that genuinely loves making music. Not just singing, not just playing, but completely /making/ music. Very refreshing.
this is the greatest thing ever.
I randomly clicked the video because I recognized the song and all I can say is WOW! Very impressed, so much talent.
Studio version please?! This rendition is so dope.
The piano is my favorite!!!
whitney would have been proud !!! great job. I like how you made it masculine, now i can sing along to it too and not be ashamed lol
One of my favorite Ben Rector covers/songs. So much talent in one human
Oh please put this on spotify! I love this!!
I've never heard of Ben Rector prior to seeing this video. It's clear he is doing his own backing vocals. If he, in fact, recorded all the instruments as well...then this dude is indeed a musical stud. Fantastic rendition of a killer pop tune. Bravo Mr. Rector...you have a new brand fan on your hands my friend.
Walking down the Isle to this in June! xoxoxo
+Ben Rector This song is actually incredible. It brought me to tears. I love it.
[Intro] (Spoken)
We're back, can you believe it?
Hey I, I, I mean this wholeheartedly
I do say this every night, but tonight I wholeheartedly mean it
I really had a good time playing for you guys, I know the band did too
So I've been told you're not supposed to end on a cover
Uh, and I'm not too worried about that so we're gonna do it anyways
Thank you guys
[Verse 1]
Clock strikes upon the hour
And the sun begins to fade
Still enough time to figure out
How to chase my blues away
I've been alright up till now
It's the light of day that's shown me how
And when the night falls, my lonely heart calls (here we go)
[Chorus]
Oh, I wanna dance with somebody
I wanna feel the heat with somebody
Oh, I wanna dance with somebody
With somebody who loves me (yeah)
[Verse 2]
I've been in love, lost my senses
Spinning through the town
Sooner or later the fever ends
And I wind up feeling down
I need someone who'll take a chance
On a love that burns hot enough to last
And when the night falls, my lonely heart calls
this is the greatest thing i've ever seen.
I saw this live 2 days ago!!!
BEST.COVER.EVER.PERIOD.
Favorite... Song... Ever.
Still my favorite 💐
Awesome rendition
I Love this song.
to those of you who believe he has an autotuned voice, listen to his "Live in Denver" album. I have seen him live and that album compared to when I saw him in October are exactly the same. there is only one word to describe that: beautiful.
He has a few slightly off pitch moments in "Live in Denver"
Sorry, it is autotune.
From time to time, I come back to this. Still love it, still amazing.
It's kinda weird a video like this has a dislike button
HOW ISNT THIS IN THE MILLIONS?!
You are fabulous man.
This arrangement is fantastic.
I feel like Whitbey would approve. ;) this kicks ass.
WHITNEY
Beautiful. Can't wait to hear it live next month in CA.
ummmm awesome! Any chance you can put this on iTunes?!
Hi 6string piano, the song is now available on iTunes: itunes.apple.com/us/album/live-in-denver/id917010861
***** The live version is great, but do you have this version for purchase somewhere? My fiance and I want to have our first dance to it, but the live version has audience noise and breaks in it. Thanks!
***** I've seen a decent amount of DJs asking for a studio version of this track for weddings and such.
+Sarah Hanson you could download this version to a device and play it off of that :)
+Ben Rector Can you please release this studio version on iTunes!?
This guy has so much talent
1:05 "town" best 1 second of this boss song
Wow what a great rendition
Sure you can sing, play piano, bass, guitar and drum, but can you play tennis???
Good job, BTW. Can I purchase this song online?
the fact that he's playing all the instruments in this just makes it 100% more awesome
Yeah, not ashamed to say I like this better than the original. Also, Ben Rector? Majorly cute.
Yeesss😍😍
ThatOneGirl Well, to each their own I suppose
no one can touch the original (Whitney) boo
This is pure and raw talent. Too many artists now don't have what Ben has. Such a refreshing sound and so much talent that I cannot stop listening to his songs.
I love your voice! This is amazing! Keep up the good work!
I love Ben Rector!
Justin Bieber is famous and he isn't?
He sounds 10x better then him which is just sad

I liked this but this dude could've played the bad guy from Foxcatcher
bahahahaha. SPOT on.
Can't belive how much talent he has ! :O
I'm really not feeling this. So many songs sound just like this nowadays... The original had a great energy and seems to be gone in this cover. It sounds good but I really don't care for it. It's just not to my taste.
True, i miss the energy the original had.
dnw009 I don't know why but im really liking this Cover A lot. #AddToFavorites
aaron andrews Well everyone has their tastes no point in arguing about it.
I totally agree but so far the cover is great, I kinda like it.
razrv3lc Totally agree!

Would love an instrumental version of this. Still one of the best tunes to listen to when I'm feeling down

I literally can’t stop listening to this!! 😍😍
this gives me chills
The best cover
Now that's a musician!! Awesome.
