I brought in a mother plant of each petunia and in March I started taking cuttings. I bought the 72 cell trays and filled them both with miracle grow seed starting mix. All 144 petunias took root in a week. I planted them all on a slope that lines my driveway. I have people stop and take pictures and tell me how gorgeous they are. I learned how to do this from your past videos on petunias. Thanks for sharing and being a part of my new addiction. 😂
Happy to feed the addiction. Sounds like you've got it figured out. Isn't it so cool when people see what you did and just stare in wonder? They either think you're pockets are loaded with money or you're magical, haha.
I did that (cut it way back) to my hanging petunia plant that I got from my grandson for Mother's day. I brought it inside and I'm going to propagate some clippings over the winter so I can have a ton to put in my garden and have some more hanging baskets. My neighbor likes the purple ones and she told me I could propagate some of hers. I'm excited! Thanks Mike!
Hey Mike, great to see you always! The petunia are gorgeous! Mine died a while back and forgot to get cuttings out of it. Have a fantastic weekend Mike! Hugs to you and your girls.🤗💜🤗💜
That sounds great, I plan the same! Will see, lol because I said that for a couple of years now. Truth is that I didn't find what I really wanted in terms of color.... Thank you Mike!🤗🤗
Mine died back too...when I wasn't paying attention. I took it in and made a few cuttings from the sad practically dead branches. Just let it sit in the window...the cuttings were too sad to come back but the plant itself pushed up some new growth and it's growing and blooming again! Who knew?
@@MikeKincaid79 The last two I brought home from your place died within a couple of weeks. I think Phoenix is too hot. Of course, by the time I got them home it was the end of June. But I’ll keep trying if you send me clippings. If I get them in the ground in February they might have a chance. ♥️ I love watching your channel. If gives me a chance to see more of you!
Love your enthusiasm and more than once it has gotten me to gitty up and go, and I actually have gotten my petunias ready for winter already, but I think maybe I will have enough to go around the house inside and out by spring. Lol anyway, who cares I love em 😊😊😁😁🤗🤗
I tossed my petunia basket in the heat of mid-July - it looked awful - leggy, dry leaves - nothing I did was helping. I swore I would never EVER buy these baskets again. But after seeing this video, I am willing to give the petunias another chance. Thanks so much!!
I think the biggest problem with them is that people don't water them enough. Petunias soak up a ton of water and nitrogen and require constant watering and food to grow their fullest and bloom prolifically.
Awesome on the fungus gnat traps!! I'll use them when I start my lisianthus and veges/flowers indoors this spring. My cutting game is strong right now because of you!
I followed your petunia propagation last year, and I am trilled to inform you that they grew beautifully! This is the first spring I did not have to purchase them again. I have noticed that they started out bright pink but now that fall is approaching they are burgundy. I’m guessing the supertunia bubblegum does that when they get old. Anyway, I have new clippings again for next year! Yay…thank you for your videos!🌸
love the plant recycling. Got a boston fern for 1.98 when it was very sad, have the main hanging pot looking great, the second little one growing well and brought in to overwinter. Have grow light was going to point on them and found dog chewed the cord to unsafe for normal person... but we are nurses, right? Duct taped it.Not trying any more perrenials in pot, getting mestinon didn't make me that much stronger and losing my fig trees still hurts.
Mike, I am 65 years old. I am on an acreage near Edmonton, Alberta zone 4a. I have gardened for many years but you have changed the way I garden. I had no idea I could do the things you are teaching me re cuttings, propagation, etc. I took cuttings from a geranium that my wife 'accidentally' kept and following your advice I now have 6 geraniums. I now have new roses growing from taking cuttings from a rose bush. These rose cuttings were taken from the mother plant Feb 6, put into play sand and the rose is growing new shoots. I cannot believe it. And now you are showing me that I can take cuttings from petunias. Thank you from the bottom of my heart my friend.
I love seeing a man who's excited and appreciates flowers. Thank you for all your videos! Could you do a video on how to keep plants in your garage in winter. I dont have enough bright light in my living room but l have windows in garage. It gets cold in NY so l know l cant keep tropicals in garage but would elephant ears in pots be ok out there? Or can you suggest an inexpensive way to keep garage at 50°?
Many people in your area store potted figs in their unheated garage. Of course, the more tender the plant, the more care may be needed. In my area, elephant ears can store in the garage well. How cold does it get in your garage? I think the elephant ears need to be kept above about 30 degrees. If your garage is insulated then I don't think it would cost my in electricity to keep the garage at just above freezing. You could always just wait until you get temps below freezing in your garage and open the door to the inside of your house to take the edge off. Of course your heat bill will go up. You could also consider just taking cuttings and storing them indoors through the winter as small plants. They will grow all winter and provide blooms.
These particular petunias were from seeds I planted so there is no particular variety. Here's a video I did about the seedlings: ruclips.net/video/7eEOgKVySGg/видео.html
@@MikeKincaid79 your video about the fertilizer was particularly helpful. I am trying to start with 20 20 20 and get to your recommended strength, which is what ProAmerican seeds suggests. perhaps dilute it to 5 5 5 and take it from there. We don't have the products you mentioned, available here in Pakistan easily, or they would be very expensive.
I enjoy all your videos. I have learned so much and look forward to continue gathering more knowledge. Way off topic but do you have any information on growing wasabi?
Natural sunlight is good but some plants respond to the amount of light in the day, and as the hours of sun get less, the plant wants to go into a dormancy mode. I like to keep artificial lights on for at least 14 hours a day and usually closer to 16 hours.
I just picked up a purple petunia for $1.49 at Ace and grow bulb for 4.99. Says that it has all spectrum but par is very low. My porch does not get any Sun since Fall started. I think I will just leave under grow light and see what happens.

Haha, that's pretty funny. When we hatched out eggs last year, we had a bunch of roosters and they sound so funny when they're trying to become men, lol. Now if they were sold to you as hens, that's a different story and not quite as funny.
I tried with the fancy-schmany petunias last summer, taking cuttings to over-winter. They died on me. I'll try again this summer. The Splash Dance Calypso and the Magenta Storm are damn hard to get hold of. They sell out fast. I'm checking for them every few days. Those are the ones I'm in love with.
that's a massive pot of petunias mike. -- sure there not geraniums? ha! i brought a new plant into the house ( as a try again project ) and the rabbits foot fern failed again but it also brought in nats. i had a suspicion about the plant and had the yellow stickies near and lucky I did. it caught most, but there's nothing like being on the computer in a dark room and having a straggler fly by. carmine p.

Mike, my petunias get powdery mildew every summer and never look as lush and green as yours, It's very humid here most of the time. Do you know of a systemic product that I could use. The sprays have been useless.
A good, tough plant. while I'm not into non-edibles, I do have a mazanita chili I want to take cuttings from. Like it's cousin petunia, it has hairy eaves that are bug traps. Next summer, late March, it can go in a shady place in the garden. But, I hope, it'll bloom all winter here. hasta
