Oh, he said the words. To feel the odd meters not in an odd way, wobbling around, but feel it more sensual, more direct, like in dance music. Thanks for this interview
Yogev, I love your videos and I feel like we speak the the same language of rhythmic curiosity and exploration. Nik’s music has inspired me for over a decade, so it was lovely to get to hear him speak. Thank you so much for this treat!
Genius. I found Nik due to your video and can't thank you enough. Both of your insights mean a lot and really have brought a lot of development to my playing
How nice that the two of you speak with each other. Nik was my Piano teacher for almost two years and he taught me so much about phrasing and dynamics and dramaturgy. Thank you both for this insightful conversation. If you want to check out our music: ruclips.net/video/NQVfePT1Fro/видео.html
I would be very curious to hear what kind of mental places Nik and his band got into while doing their ritual sessions. I have done that kind of thing twice, both times with polyrhythms derived from gematric operations on Greek and Hebrew. Both experiences were totally wild. One lasted for five hours and was done in total darkness and led to me having an extremely vivid vision. The other members of that group all reported different, but equally odd phenomena, aural overtones, visual hallucinations, etc.
If you like Nik, you should definitely check out Don Li's reductive music. Here is one event he composed and also played together with 47 other Swiss drummers during 48 hours. Everyone played a "curved" beat for one hour (including me, obviously the only amateur drummer...). You find Don Li's music on Spotify. ruclips.net/video/48xTAIfhfzg/видео.html
