Nice video Alan, that r5ain you and on the 21st ,we got on the night of the 23rd and we ended up with about 60 mm(2 1/2-inches). so no white Christmas for us. It's nice that your highways parallel the rails up her they don't usually. But still the railways were here before the roads were.
Mate fantastic effort with chasing that freight train and recording this whilst driving!! I enjoy your videos here in Australia of the American trains and railways I only see either pics/videos of or on train simulator haha I'll shoot you some footage of some of the interstate freight trains here down under that are mostly EMD powered and ran by Genesse and Wyoming Australia or a firm called Pacific National. Please keep an eye out for a CSX SD80MAC on the rails for me !! 😄
Two C-C turbodiesel-electrics pulling 129 cars of mixed freight! The latest General Electric and Allis-Chalmers locos pack 6,000 HP distributed across six traction motors (three in each truck). The Union Pacific and Electro-Motive (now a division of Caterpillar) could potentially top that with an 8,000 HP DDX-95MAC - same wattage for each traction motor on eight live axles. Incidentally, I noticed the train slowing a few times. How many sets of anomaly detectors did the train traverse this run?
Typically whenever a train were to be hauling mostly empty cars on flat land in less-rural areas with more yards, checkpoints, etc. nearby, eastern-based carriers like CSX and NS often use only two units leading their trains versus BNSF and UP utilizing two (sometimes three or four) front, one rear serving as a DPU on a loaded intermodal or a empty/half-full mixed freight or manifest in the middle of the mostly rural (practically empty) plains, flatlands, or deserts which tend to be graded or hilly out west.
