Great Grandpa is a snarky grunge and math rock band who've dubbed themselves "snack rock". The quintet jams out spunky, complicated indie tunes with unforgettable lines about types of people that annoy them, passions that excite them, and the simple joys of hanging out with your best friends. They push the boundaries of indie rock by fusing bubbly, heavy pop with stellar musicianship and daring instrumental arrangements. Check out the live performance by Great Grandpa on Audiotree Live.
Recorded on August 12, 2017 in Chicago, IL.

I'm overwhelmed with the amount of good bands that exist.
Yeah it's getting really fucking hard to keep up.
flyingwillounet exactly!
Peach Pit, The Superweaks, and Mom Jeans. Listen to those man.
those sound like the nicknames i have for the people in this gay band
Slothrust
I used to see these peeps play basement shows in Seattle and I’m so incredibly beyond stoked that they’re getting nationwide recognition. Such incredibly lovely and talented people and they deserve every single ounce of fame they get. Good music isn’t dead, it’s just taking it easy!
Great Grandpa's songs come even more alive, live. You hear the essence of what the band and the songs are about when you actually hear this. I've never seen them live, but I wish to one day.
Mostly Here - 0:45
Favorite Show - 11:10
Fade - 20:30
All Things must behave \ Eternal Friend - 27:15
Plastic Cough - 37:46
TWO band members are wearing Rozwell Kid Ts. Hell yeah!
I've lost count of how many awesome bands I've found through you guys. Thanks for that.
I saw Great Grandpa live with Diet Cig in San Francisco in 2019(?). The show was incredible and I came away a big fan of this band.
Starting my day right with some Great Grandpa! Absolutely love it!
I love this format. Audiotree just hits the nail on the head every time.
discovered this band a year ago....glad i did!!
never listened to these guys before but I'm 1 song in and I love it! every time I thought it was ending it kept going and surprising me
this performance is everything i miss about live music
saw them live in a basement last summer before their new album came out. they were so chill. if you like this sound give sioux falls/strange ranger, peaer, horse jumper of love a try. all great.
I met Peter and the band several times he came to stl to my friends and played at the nest in his basment and they were always nice and friendly. He sends my brother the new pre album releases its a nice group of humans.
I can honestly say that this is my favorite audiotree live performance.
This was awesome. Audiotree sound engineers are a gift
That sounded great! Thanks for sharing.
one of my favorite bands ever. also,, everyone stream their album “Four of Arrows” starting Oct.25.19❤️🤘🏽
yay! spak bros!!!! it makes me so happy when ppl point out pgh gems
Saw these gals and guys in Portland a while back...damn good.
Still my fave Audiotree - only a couple months more until the movie!
Wow, goosebumps. Glad I found this band.
Same. Need moarrrr
Fade is such a tune
what a performance!
these guys are total Pixies fans, it shows and its a good thing lol
exactly what I thought: it' s in the dynamics
Definitely Weezer too
straight up
To be fair, Weezer were total Pixies fans and it showed (especially the Blue Album).
i hear a little pixies in gr8tgrndpa....also speedy ortiz.
freaking wow
Good stuff glad I found this
Soo freaking good!
Thanks audio tree for doing yalls thang
im sold
Came here for the band name, stayed for the killer jams. Makes me feel 14 again (in a good way).
I just listened twice in a row... Amazing voice, definite Cranberries influences + Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer. Nice
Yeah and don't forget Paramore
@@kniep_py LOL I was thinking the same thing when I read "Cranberries" just because they have a female singer like....lul
at like 30:30 she sounds exactly like dolores from the cranberries
are they sponsored by rozwell kid
Wonder Bread they'd just finished touring with them before this was recorded!
Probably the only clean shirts they had
Really cool mic setup over the kit! This band is rockin!!!
You mean the standard mic setup for a drum kit? xd
i love how shy some of these songs are, its so cute i wanna kiss them all
I’m 3 minutes into hearing this for the first time and I couldn’t agree more
Eric For sure. The song wants to get super loud and start going off, and they do a bit, but then they relax and kind of stays where it is. It’s like going to talk a person at a party who looks nice but you kind of fumble over your words. That’s the visual I’m getting anyway
20:30 wow...i just started balling my eyes out. "fade"
i love the hosts on audiotree.
they are sooo good jeez!
First song 🤩
y'all rock! love how down to earth you are and a full vegan band is rad too! hope to see you in providence, ri sometime!
Are they full vegan for real :0
HELL YEAH I SEE that quad reverb..
Her voice is too good live
All the love for Rozwell Kid they're giving is rad
11:13 , favorite track hands down.... ironically "favorite show"
Fucking awesome.
I have that Rozwell kid shirt too!
What an absolutely dreamy performance!
Just recently discovered these guys & their more recent material. But the 1st song of this set had some serious Bjork vibes along with Pixies lIke others mentioned. Good stuff!
I love the Claudio comment!
Pat's Back up vocals need to come up just a touch, i know they never have his very loud even in production but just a tad in my useless opinion
CriMxDelAxCriM I'm here to disagree, he just gives that touch of harmony that's needed without being overwhelming which I think is what they wanna avoid
That's the beauty of music right, we can both hear the same thing but have entirely different opinions on it!
CriMxDelAxCriM Pat kills it 150% of the time. In their own words; “always killin’ it”
this is so wholesome, love to see this
Whats the green guitar? The grey one is cool too.never heard of a fender super sonic.
xavier jt100
Fairly sure the grey one is a danelectro but I can't see the headstock cause I'm on my phone. The green one looks like a new fender.
Teen challenge is such a banger
getting some pixies, slowdive vibes
HELL YEAH
lol dig the rozwell kid shirts
those rozwell kid shirts
I'VE GOT GOOSE BUMPS
Club Night check out the band Boosegumps lol they're really good too
i love audiotree shitty mixes, never fail to dissapoint WITH MY FAVORITE BANDS. These vocals need a lifegaurd
boo hoo man… this is still a great performance
@@brettdevlin3441 u clearly have a problem reading. i wouldn't care if the mix is bad if the performance was shit. the performance is good and its ruined by the engineer, thats wat gets on my nerves cuz this is not the first time this happens
@@aihamkadiri4992 ruined lmao
@@brettdevlin3441 hmmm, sounds like u listen to ur music on a nokia phone speakers.
this is one of the funniest euphemisms for vocals being drown in the mix i've ever seen
Mostly Here in the higher key doesn't really do it for me, not sure if this is just due to having the record version as a point of reference. It pretty much takes away the hypnotic melancholyness. Great band though. Sad that I missed them both times they came through when shows were a thing
if i had to choose something to kiss in this session i wolud be so lost that i woluld choose to die
Hi, Dylan -- I was that kid at Berklee in LA who wouldn't leave you and your friend alone 😋
Gordon! what's up! that week in 2009 was so sick
what podcast did she say?
Awesome set Oshwa!
That Roswell kid shirt doeeeee
First time seeing this band. I really enjoy their music.
I noticed the "VALIS" tattoo on arm of the baseball cap wearing guitar player. Does anyone who follows the band know the meaning the wearer puts into that tat? I'm only aware of the Phillip K. Dick VALIS: Vast Active Living Intelligence System. I.e PKD's acronym for what he claimed was the highest god he saw when he was... in a frame of mind that allowed him to see gods. If that's what it means for him I"m happier for seeing it. If not, I'm OK with just having heard the music.
Peace all.
You all caught that pixies shout out @3:50
that's probably why everyone are saying they remind them of the Pixies, lol.
but really though, it's not like The Pixies own the scale degrees "do" and "ti," ya know?
@@eelnai2503 i call dibs on the c chord. it is mine and nobody else is allowed to play it without my permission lol.
29:30 - straight down the camera :-)
Pat is playing a Tokai
Y’all getting any Great Grandpa vibes on this session? Kind of like a great grandpa sound, with some great grandpa.
(I understand we want to connect them with other influences, but let them be their own thing. They are. Thank you, bye bye)
Heck yes. 🙌🏻
Wow, 3:50 sounds almost exactly like Where is My Mind.
rozwell kid shirts n i c e
guitarist looks like Weird Al circa UHF.
OutLoudOutLoud saw them on Halloween and he actually was weird al
These guys, drug church, nothing, gouge away and the jins need to tour together
This version of Mostly Here is waaaaaaay better than the album version. Her voice sounds better live... like wtf?
Their live shows would blow you away, then
Vocal mics were too low
You need sapwood on here
they are like the bandcamp version of Company Of Thieves
Not similar at all..lol?
hello all.
The interchanging harmonies are too rich.
she looks like hayley here
pickleboy !!!!
snooze
27:13 is my favorite
She sounds very much like Delores O'riordan to me.
i really like this host lol.
RIP Parts and Labor
This reminds of swimming through a Built to Spill album backwards.... dochreidte
snooze bec it 3am fam
The drummer looks like Neil from Peach Pit
Like to c that drummer pull off some Tool songs.
can we talk about the curly haired guitarist's shirt pls
Host sounds hella high!!!
Very smiley😄
F for the headphones
She is lovely. At first I thought, "oh it's Haley Williams," but this singer here is like a step up.
the Paul Thomas Music I dunno man Haley is extremely talented.
no way, dude.
It's a very funny name but a very serious band
cranbeeries all over it
at least they chose a name for their band that perfectly describes their sound
All things must behave sounding like that is sick
SIMPSONS SEASON 3
Michael Schriner and a thing of hummus?
my great grandpa is dead af this offensive
All this friends are almost dead too
THE WHOLE BAND IS BASICALLY VEGAN 🤩🤩
The whole band is basically vegan
