When HoI4 somehow has more varied fleet usages(idk, who builds destroyers, but subs, carriers, battleships and cruisers all have uses depending on country and doctrine).
Destroyers have 2 uses: -Cheep Roach destroyers to take screen damage -anti sub as uk and usa (and maybe Canada once you get your heavy cruiser done and have enough convoys((and Japan sometimes if usa goes sub)))
I mean, they should be good, that or the devs need to make it so all ships get stronger if you research a new ship type, so there's more reason for picking them again (other than the fleet size cap). For as expensive research wise and build cost wise battleships are, there should be a stronger niche past just "defending space" because we all know a fortress world can waste a tremendous amount of time already.
Hard disagree with this. Battleships still beat the crap out of things from long range, are the best carriers, and are extremely durable against everything other than torpedoes, which are not a problem if you have a good screen. You need less battleships than before 3.6, but they're still essential. Meanwhile, corvettes have lost access to the devastator torpedo, are ineffective against large hulls or bastions, and in general can't do anything other than raid undefended starbases after midgame. They also get absolutely deleted by FE and Crisis fleets. Even disruptor corvettes have a direct counter now with hardening augs. They're more useless beyond the early game than they ever have been before.
My preferred loadout in endgame was: 40 cruisers, 8 battleships, and 1 Titan, which was quite nice for dealing with most systems. Two or three fleets of those babies could soak up most AI fleets. For the Crisis, I just spammed battleships. Nowadays, I'll have to revisit the strat.
A strategy I've been having some luck with is having a few detachments to overwhelm the enemy. A main fleet of battleships, titans, and cruisers that makes up the bulk of my fighting force to break through strongholds, then a few mini fleets of corvettes and maybe destroyers for eliminating undefended starbases. I can move on their capital while the smaller forces can speed through their systems and chip at their economy.

Considering that AI likes to spam corvettes, carrier BB's are still pretty usefull, especially when used as long range fire support, their egagement range also can give some advantage. True. The armour made no tangible difference against delayed-fuse ordenance, which would penetrate and explode inside the hull. So why waste precious steel and production-time on useless armour if they could just slap battleship-armaments on to cruisers instead? (aka Battle-Cruisers).
@@HateMachinist There is just one problem with that idea. If the shell could not penetrate the armor it was kinda useless. Meaning that if the armor was good enough it could stop rounds from damaging the ship. And as well it was a good idea to armor the important bits a lot in order to make sure things like the ammunition did not get hit. Titans were always really good for their auras. -20% shield on the enemy is amazing. If not to stack with other system debuffs or to counter shield-heavy builds, then also to make their shields as weak as possible while going all in on hull/armor weaponry. The disengagement chance debuff is nice too.
Wouldn't battleships be half-decent since they can carry x3 times as many fighters as cruisers? That's like a 50% gain, even if they're more vulnerable! (lower speed is probably a dealbreaker in multiplayer but come on).
Why are you using psspp design for destroyers instead of msspp, and ever better question, why is there pss section? point-defense is a small slot alternative, medium should be equivalent to two points defense slots
