What a wonderful, thorough video, thank you! I started my first cut flower garden in my small yard this year at the age of 40 thanks to generous people like you making it so easy to learn and feel like it's possible to newbies. I'm enjoying watching the pollinators so much! Going to try even more next year. :) Now back to watching more of your lovely vids. Have a great rest of the flower season!
Nice explanation. Another thing that’s great about zinnias is the size of the seeds make them really easy to sow. I volunteer at Lake Forest Elementary School Butterfly garden and the children love holding zinnia seeds in their hands and counting out a few for each cup of soil. 🌼
I had on my To List to study growing zinnias fm seed. I sat just down for a break, picked up my phone, clicked on You Tube & up popped this video in my Suggestions. Wow! What a help & blessing this was! Thanks
Your zinnias look amazing! I hope after the time you posted this video and the last couple years that you've continued to grow amazing flowers. I'm growing zinnias for the first time this year. The seedlings have already reached 3 or 4 inches tall so far and I'm anticipation blooms as amazing as yours. Thank you for the tips and advice!
videotapeses .....I live in the Deep South, when I dead head my flowers, I just put the flower back in the flower bed and the next year they come back over and over by themselves. Sometimes I have to add a few more seeds because we might have a bad winter and not as many come back. I love Zinias , they are my fav.
I'm starting out in gardening. Doing well for my first year, but I need to encourage need to pollinate so I'm going to start growing flowers as well. I like the idea of harvesting flower, it helps them continue to bloom.
This will be My first year to plant Zinnias. I bought the giant purple seeds😊. I also bought the Persian carpet (Mexican blend) I am in Southern California. Zone 10b and I can hardly wait!!!! 🌱 Thank you for the tips! Have a wonderfully blessed day. 🌿🌿
I planted my zinnias Lilliput that I grew in a tray in my front window. And there just starting to bloom. I did pinch early once so I’m excited to see how they come out. I probably will get them once a year since I live in NJ zone 7.
I like the idea of cycling the zinnias into the garden. In the past I always just started my zinnias inside and when they got big enough I plant them outside. But I think this summer I'm going to have zinnias growing inside all the time under grow lamp and then when they're ready just put them in the dirt. It is a good idea
Thanks so much for your informative video. I love Zinnias! I use large vertical tomato cages to they can grow very tall and don't fall down during high winds.
Oh my God, the color varieties that you got are stunning. I love the vibrant colors offset by that light lavender. And the peachy color you showed in the beginning was stunning too. I have some growing right now. They are just babies though, about 3-4 sets of leaves. I think I will go ahead and start pinching. On the other hand, we have had so much rain that it seems like they slowed down their growth a little bit. I really hope that by pinching them they get branchy and keep growing strong. I only have like 10 plants because I planted some rather old seed, but I am totally going to root the tips that I pinch out and do my best to keep doubling their numbers. Wish me luck! :)
I have tried so many times to grow them without luck. Where I am now the slugs get to them as young starts and eat them to the ground. I will try again and bought a ton of seeds for the next season.
I am going to try and grow them for my first time this year! Wish me luck! Your videos have been a huge help! Have you ever replanted your zinnia seeds? Or do you just purchase new ones every year?
@@TONYAwiththeflowers thank you so much! I'm from the Sonoran desert so I need to plant now since we get to about 118° F during our summers. These little flowers have me so excited though! 🥰
You garden looks nice! Are those Amaranths in the back? What kind? You have a nice channel! Love your accent, Im from southwestern Virginia and I sound like you!
All my little sprouts died after 2 inches. I can't tell what is wrong. Whether I over water them, I give them the wrong soil, or if the sun is SO hot that the soil is drying to crisp up top, but still moist below :^(((( But i will keep trying because they give so many seeds in the packets! Pointers?
If you're starting the seeds outside, try moving the tray to a sheltered place during the hottest part of the day. It sounds like your tray may be drying out too much while the seedlings become established. Good luck!
Hi. That sounds a bummer about Japanese beetles eating your zinnia flowers. I wonder if having Guinea Fowls would help get rid of them and eventually curtail their numbers in your area? I just saw on CBCSaskatchewan RUclips channel a video on Guinea Fowl eating up ticks and grasshoppers.
Solo dejar que Floresca y también que seque la flor muy bien y regar las semillas ,son 8 días para que empiecen a brotar y listo, empieza su nuevo ciclo de vida,así de FÁCIL.
Hi! Are Benary's giant varieties open pollinated or hybrids? Can i save seeds from them and plant them? And is 86°and 100° too hot for these zinnias? Thank you. Im new to zinnias.
I'm not certain, but I think benarys giants are not hybrids. Also, they seem to do fine with hot weather. My summer temperatures are always above 80f and occasionally above 100f. They grow well as long as they get enough water. Every garden is different. Thank you for watching! Good luck!
I want to know why your trimming them and is there anyway I can encourage root growth by trimming them? Can I trim them so they don’t grow so tall? I had mine grow this year up to 6ft and I expected smaller flowers. I planted them on a raised flower bed. I’d love to grow them again there but they are just so tall!!
+Edemamee You can do either :) You can save seeds from any open pollinated variety of zinnia and plant them next season. Or if you grow hybrid seeds, it's probably best to buy more. Thanks for watching! 🌱😀
In your experience, are the Benary's Giants really better, more resistant to the powdery mildew? I imagine, that the successive sowing, getting rid of older plants really helps, too. I always get mildew on old plants (Cal Giants, etc.) Benary's better??? Mahalo! -Scotty (Maui, on a mountain) -Strong sun, but never over 85 degrees, up here. :))
I always get mildew on zinnias, too. It does seem that they last a little longer before the mildew shows. But it still does, definitely. The benarys also seem to produce more double flowers than some of the cheaper ones. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
Thanks, was hoping they were really Really resistant, oh well! -Good that Benary's get mildew later, as they are so tall. -Thanks for the reply, and for your videos! Hope you find some land with a city full of flower customers nearby, some day soon!
freshcutky, I have a very steep bank behind my house & yes its Clay.. I thought about starting them in my little green house, but being red clay I didn't know how well they would do because of the run off because of the clay... Thank you sweetie!
I've just planted zinnea seeds in peat pots on my porch to plant out later. I'm in zone 9/10 in south east Spain. The night temperatures are minimum 8ºC (46ºF), Will they germinate ok if I leave them outside overnight? Or should I bring them into the house till it gets warmer?
They should be okay. 😀😀😀 As long as there's no frost predicted, the seedlings should be fine. Zinnias dislike the cold, so the growth might be slow at first. Once the temperatures warm up, they'll start growing quite quickly. Good luck! 🌱🌱🌱🌱
Some dwarf varieties might be able to grow in shallow soil. However, I would avoid the tall types with large flowers. They would likely fall over from the weight of the plant. Good luck!
I'm not absolutely certain, but I grew two types that year. Both were from Baker Creek - one was 'tornado red' and the other was called 'forest fire'. Hope that helps! :)
Is it possible to plant the seeds again after picking the flowers?? I'm trying to figure out how to get more zinnias and keep my hummingbirds happy. 😁💐
Zinnias are cut and come again. The more you cut them, the more flowers will come. You can always make another planting that will bloom in the fall if there's enough time. Good luck!

Two tips for ya! 1. Zinnias are edible and 2. Spray them with a milk and water solution to prevent and treat powdery mildew. 😉😉
what is the mixing ratio of milk and water?
@@sheilagreene660 I have read that 1 part milk to 2 or 3 parts water can help fight both black spot and powdery mildew.
Milk And Honey Acreage what kind of milk?
What kind of dirt?
Can one do this to cucumbers?
