- Just 25 minutes from Port Lavaca, Texas, is a 1.5 mile long stretch of drivable sandy beach on Matagorda Bay called Magnolia Beach. This was a great find as we continue our travels eastward through southern Texas.
Dispersed camping is allowed on this beach for a maximum of 15 days within a month's time span, unlimited, and at no cost - free. There are public restrooms, showers (cold), potable water, picnic areas and casitas for the use of ground tent campers.
During our stay here, we experienced differences in weather ranging from warm sunny days in the 70's to windy cold days with low's below freezing. Weather got so severe that we took up a fellow Jeeper on his offer to take shelter in his fishing cabin in Indianola. Huge debt of thanks to Trey Franklin for his generosity and kindness!!!

One of our favorite places!
It was so great! Loved to come back in the spring!
Are there shells or magnolia beach
Yes, the beach itself consists of sea shells. It’s very pretty!
I'll apologize
in advance for my stupidity. I'm getting ready for some beach camping soon. Is the cabana at the side of the jeep used for a latrine? And, if it is what kind do you use or recommend . Sorry for the weird question, but in the camping videos I've seen it's not really addressed.
No apologies necessary. Please feel free to ask questions. We use our privacy tent for both showers and a latrine, when needed.
There are two videos we’ve done regarding these and here are the links for easy reference:
