I just started watching your videos to gather food info for my upcoming visit to Oahu. Our daughter and her family are moving to your beautiful island in a couple of weeks & I'll be helping her with her two sons from April ~ June. My grandsons LOVE to try new foods and bc I'm half Vietnamese, they've eaten so many foods most kids wouldn't even look at. Anyhow, thanks so very much for your honesty, genuine compassion for the local businesses and just keepin' it real! Annnnndddd, thanks so much for making me feel normal about the abnormal way I obsess over food! Ya'll are wonderful! Keep up the great job! Mahalo from Slapout, AL

Whoa, this almost made me want to jump in the car and drive there NOW! Saimin and burger looked gooood. You should mention that saimin+teri burger is a classic local combination. Dessert looked good, too, but if you wanted a scone, right next door makes some great ones: Sconees! One day if you're out Pearl City way, gotta check out Palisades Drive In.
Felix did mention the Saimin x Teri Burger combo at 9:20👍🏼 Thats for looking out🥰 We'll definitely put that on our to do list! Thanks for watching🤙🏼Aloha!

Mahalo for watching🤙🏼We have not done Zippy's yet. We had no idea people were interested, here Zippy's is kind of like a McDonalds, local fast food lol Thanks for the suggestion!
That Teri burger looks amazing !!! Papa Kurts looks worth checking out. Thanks for the good tip. I had the Teri whopper from Burger King a few weeks ago and that was good. I don't think you can really go wrong with a teri burger. It might be my favorite all time food. And no, I don't remember Saimin in public school. I do tho remember cooking it as a kid. Frozen with the little flavor packet :) We ate it for lunch alot during the summer.
@@AmandaFelixEats Not to sound like a complete weirdo but I did place an order yesterday to be picked up at 11:00 am today. All the way from Kaneohe. I treated my sister to lunch too. When I was telling her about how I heard about this place I found out she has been watching you for months. Are those the people that always get desert ??? Yes, they are. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you.
All these different flavors of mochi that weren't around when I was growing up in Hanalei. Japanese weeren't that creative/onnovative back then. I haven't had butter mochi since we left Hnalei in 1954. Sure nice to see you enjoying that mochi flavor. How id a Vietnamese guy get a name like Felix? I spent some time in Viet Nam when I was in the Navy and all the guys had these names I couldn't pronounce.
Aloha Amanda & Felix! OMG, love ube desserts. Is it possible to gain weight from just watching your vlogs (lol!). I'm a butter mochi lover, I've only had it from Foodland. In your opinion, who has the best butter mochi in Oahu? If I ate beef/pork, I would definitely get that burger and also the saimin too, both looked so ono. I have my countdown for having Itchy Butt, now I need to add this ube mochi and the chocolate ube banana bread too! Mahalo for another great vlog, you both should have a show on the Travel Channel. Congrats on having (as of this minute) 3.4k subscribers, that is awesome!!!
Aloha Paula! Thank you for your kind words and support always! I'm glad you've tried butter mochi! Honestly the best I've had was from one of Felix's coworkers, sorry that's not at all helpful! That Ube butter mochi and bread was definitely a close second! 👍🏼 Thanks for watching🤙🏼
Back in the 70's we never had saimin in our school lunch. My daughter makes ube butter mochi too. If you know how to make butter mochi just substitute the vanilla extract to the ube extract but you would have to use more than just a tsp. I think my daughter uses 2 or 3 tsp of ube extract. 😊
Thank you for all of the reviews. I am planning a trip to Oahu once everything is back to normal. Your videos have helped me a lot. I do have a question... how do you feel about the various Luaus that are offered in the island? I have seen mixed reviews from tourists and would like to hear from locals like you. Thank you.
I've lived on Oahu all my life. Been to Royal Hawaiian SC, Paradise Cove, Germaine's, Polynesian Cultural Center, and even the Lahaina Luau on Maui. All pretty much the same. Hawaiian food OK, some local favorites mixed in like chow mein noodles and teriyaki beef or chicken. And of course they all have the "Polynesian" show with a mix of Hawaiian, Tahitian, Maori, etc. that's perfect for tourists. You know, they call up a few on stage and make them "dance" so everyone else can laugh and say under their breath, "Whew, glad it wasn't ME!" It's all good. BUT, if you want the real deal food, you have to go to restaurants like Helena's or Highway Inn. No entertainment, though!
Thank you for watching! S Pang said it well! I've been to some of the ones mentioned and was always very entertained! It is a great way to become introduced to Polynesian Culture as a whole, but yes, a bit tourist trappy. If you do go, go for the learning experience and entertainment, then get real Hawaiian food to try! Hope that helps!🤙🏼
Saimin is older than ramen and likely inspired it to some extent. Japan did not have a lot of wheat until America started sending it over post WWII. However Japan had many citizens that remembered the noodle soup from Hawaii.
Sorry, not too sure! A lot of places are already doing dine in so I'm not too sure the reason behind why they haven't started yet... When they do open for dine-in we'll definitely see you there!🤤 Aloha🤙🏼

Awesome! Hope you enjoy🤤 honestly homemade! It’s really easy, just shoyu (soy sauce) and sugar heated together! Some people put corn starch to thicken or add garlic for taste👍🏻
i can attest to McDonald's HI McTeri burger...it IS bomb ! Happens about 3-5 weeks once each year...wish it would be put on even smaller burgers (they have it on the 1/4 lb burgers) like on the regular cheeseburger with the McTeri sauce ! Early 1960s to '76, saimin never served in our lunch program at Kalihi area schools.
Aloha Ohana for another awesome video! Now of all the local eats you been too which is your Top 5 places would you recommend to people on the mainland and around the world? mahalo and malama pono!!!

72 F is refreshing for us in Western Canada. Shorts and tank top temp tbh. I get it tho. I see Brazilians every normal year for a skateboard comp and they would be wearing a winter jacket at said temp. Some freaks up here are in shorts and t-shirts walking outside in literally freezing temps. I'm not one of them but I will go out to talk to a friend for 10 min dressed like that. Eastern Canada is a lot colder than Vancouver. We are like SF Bay Area. 😂
I remember having saimin in school, but it was rare. But I'm way older than the two of you. I'm probably around your parents' age. Ask them if they had saimin in school.
ooooooh! I get hungry just watching you woof down the bowl of saimin. I can't find saimin like that here in San Mateo. Evwen if I made myself it doesn"t taste like what you're woofing down. We have an L & L Hawaiian food here in San Mateo but the flavor is not like the flavor in Honolulu.. Even the chinese food here doesn't taste the chinese food in Honolulu. I used to go to the East-West cafe in Chinatown but my aunt tells me it is long gone.
Born and raised in Kailua , Oahu and living on the mainland I love u r vids it takes me home. If I could please make a corrective comment, when u make a verbal mistake and u bleep it out it's very annoying to watch. It would be better if u edited and made u r vid run smoothly. Just my opinion. Keep up the good work.
Hey guys! I'm from California and have been in Hawaii for a couple years now. Growing up in California, Mexican food is a HUGE part of my life. Now that I'm in Hawaii, I've found that good Mexican food is actually super rare, specifically good taquerias. I've tried burritos and tacos all over the island and I found the BEST: Thyda's. She and her partner Majed are in the Ward area, based out of this tiny little wooden stand behind the Whole Foods. She's also from California, specifically SoCal, and her food really shows the style. I've been eating local California Mexican food for at least 30 years, and Thyda's has by far the best street tacos and burritos on the island. I recommend the carnitas burrito with the works, and try all their different meats in taco form. You will not regret it.
Thank you for the information! We always drive past that stand and wondered if it was good👍🏼 We'll definitely add it to our to do list! Mahalo for watching🤙🏼
@@AmandaFelixEats Hopefully your videos can finally put to rest the claim that "Hawaii doesn't have good Mexican food." Thanks for taking the time to reply back. Mahalo for watching🤙🏼
Jack in the box teri burger is pretty good too and its pretty cheap compared to their other burgers.
Yummmmmmmm
Wow there's an L&L there! I wonder how it differs from here! lol Mahalo for watching🤙🏼
Hook on your channel for Hawaiian Food. I noted down all the places and will try on April. Good Jobs to both of you.
Awesome! Hope you can try these ono spots in April! Mahalo for watching🤙🏼
Mochi and a Coke? I always thought the Coke tasted a little bitter if you had it with mochi.
that burger dam
Looks like Japanese style chashu on the saimin.
Can you explain to non hawaii people what the bag fee is on your receipt for papa kurtz. It was forty cents.
@@hawaiiguy1 mahalos.🤙
Honestly, we were asking the same question! lol 😱
Maybe fee for all
If the packaging. It adds up. Especially if it’s compostable.
75 grad Neva had saimin
No saimin in school my days. But I'm 50 years older then you

Hey guys! I'm from California and have been in Hawaii for a couple years now. Growing up in California, Mexican food is a HUGE part of my life. Now that I'm in Hawaii, I've found that good Mexican food is actually super rare, specifically good taquerias. I've tried burritos and tacos all over the island and I found the BEST:
Thyda's.
My partner Stacie is a big fan of the show and we both look forward to every new episode. We really appreciate your philosophy about showcasing delicious local spots that truly deserve our support. Keep up the great content!
Dear Felix my last name is Felix Btw
Looks good but $12 for the burger is crazy
It's not a sandwich it's a Manwich lol!
You guys Dakine awesome!🙏🏼 love ur vids! Maybe you guys would enjoy my Japanese vlog in Japan, only have 2 videos up but soon I’ll upload like you pros🙇🏽♂️
Mahalo for watching🤙🏼We'll definitely check it out!
That beeping is very annoying.
Another great video. Would still prefer if you reduce/eliminate the “bad/error 📺.” It’s a bit overdone and kind of ruins the flow. Maybe you should take a vote from the viewers?
Don’t know what you’re talking about 🤷🏻♀️ their video looks fine to me 🤙🏼
I guess it's me. All good, still like the content.
@@dlu81 Are you talking about the beeping multicolored dead screen tv signal that weusedto have back in the day? Then yeah thats a little annoying.
Yes exactly. That dead screen tv 📺 is overdone. Glad it’s not just me.
I had to watch the video to see what u guys were referring to 😅
