Yeah, I agree, the U.S. needs more draft dodging heroes who then become huge hypocrites. Truly heroic indeed.
Nugent received student deferments in 1967 (1-S) and 1968 (2-S). These were "student" deferments he got while he was out playing rock-star. A draft dodger like him would be better off just avoiding the subject. Whatever your view on wars etc. Nugent isn't the guy to admire when he's talking like a bad ass. When he was called to serve he didn't.

IMO,the last time our Military "fought for our Freedom" was in the War of 1812. That being said, I support the Men & Women in uniform because I KNOW FIRST HAND what it like. I am a Veteran myself.

This man does more for todays soldiers than most entertainers do. My son is serving, and if Nuge ran for office he'd have my vote! My cousins from Indiana know him personally and both say he's a straight up great person!! I personally agree with the things he says. Preach on Uncle Ted!!

I respect Ted, he is a quintessential American - independent, doesn't care that you might be offended by what you say, and self-reliant, living his own life the way he wants to. I disagree with his view on war strongly though, on the basis that it is NOT protecting our Constitutional rights, but justifying their erosion. Instead, our bravest American sons and daughters are betrayed, dying in the sandbox to line the pockets of evil war profiteers.
I like him as a guitar man , I am not a hunter at all but I want his right to hunt, speak and be different. Slandering this guy is pathetic- his flow is impeccable
It's amazing how he froths at the mouth for war, yet never mentions the importance of education, access to higher learning, equal rights, healthcare for all as a basic human right-none of those things, ever. If Ted wants to go hunting, more power to him and I trust him with his guns, but it's really not at the forefront of importance, when it comes to the issues of the day. The wide-eyed cheering on of war is also not exactly very helpful. Get your priorities straight and wise up, Ted.

I agree with Ted on 99% of what he says. War is not always a solution, especially fighting against an enemy with no resolve. If you truly support the constitution, then you would no that it says that we should not intervene in foreign affairs and settle our differences with understanding. Violence is always secondary, reason is first. We have undoubtedly the greatest and most advanced military and CIA on earth, national defense is no problem. Preemptive war is insanity.
@iParatrooper You know why I forgive him for that? Because he acknowledges it and has apologized for it and has worked every day of his life to repent and make up for his mistakes.

Im not saying that war is not necessary, but if someone thinks its as simple as "good vs evil", then that person lacks the intelligence to see how complex the world really is.

It's going away really quickly here, too, Ted. Every time you hear the term "puppymill" and the like you should cringe not because of the rare abuses of animals but because of the insanity that is "animal rights". I believe it to be one of the biggest threats to our freedom. If you don't think so understand that states are already voting on whether or not you should have the right to hunt.
He dodged the draft because he didn't know any better. At the time, that was the accepted thing to to among young people. He DID do it legally though.
However, I guarantee you he wouldn't have done it knowing what he does now. He's matured a lot since then, and he's trying to make up for it by supporting the troops as much as he can. Most people don't have that kind of decency anymore to make up for their mistakes.

@untouchblz The FDofE hasn't done a single thing to improve the quality of education in the United States since it's inception and done much to decrease it. And yes, the war in Iraq was constitutional. Congress authorized the use of force and allocated funds. It passes constitutional muster.
@marinesarelife1 Damn right. I served in Iraq and our mission was to provide security and provide freedom and liberty to the people of Iraq from insurgents. It is an unfortunate reality that, sometimes, violence MUST be used to accomplish that goal, but it doesn't mean the military is full of war junkies. The majority of people who serve in th military do so because they have a sense of duty to deter evil and to provide freedom for people who cannot accomplish these feats on their own.
