People are going back and forth about Nugent's draft history and whether or not it matters 40 or 50 years later. Some claim it was youthful ignorance that lead him to twice finagle his way out of being drafted and it should not be counted against him. Others claimed his words and actions at the time dishonor the military and he should always be held accountable for that. Either way, having never served in any capacity, should he really be considered a de facto ambassador and spokesperson for our branches of service? Shouldn't that be reserved for people who have served? If people are in reality going up to him to have him thank our military for their service, shouldn't he be redirecting them to thank the actual survice members themselves? He seems to enjoy playing the tough guy with his talk while being fully protected by those who are actually tough! If he were ever in combat, I wonder how many pairs of underwear he would go through, then?
