They are unreal live. Jon sounds exactly the same on screams. The guitars and drums are nearly identical to the studio. The cleans from Tilian are usually spot on until the very end of the night you can hear a little strain, but still significantly better than most singers live
Granted Andrew sings the stuff for his band in a completely different tone and register. His voice is made for the slightly lower grungier stuff. And he is playing the guitar at the same time. Some of their rythym sections are tough
I wasnt bashing andrew he is super talented. I just know that I've picked him out over tillian because tillians range is so much higher than his. He does a great job and there is not very many artists that can get that close to tillians range.

If you were wondering. DGD is an experimental band that goes into both progressive metal and math rock, which is a strange combination but they pull it off well. Math Rock is almost like a jazzy rock with pace changes. Progressive metal is like your typical heavy metal bands that you hear all the time like We Came As Romans and Architects.
The laugh at Jon singing while sitting on the couch is perfectly on point. We all did it. Their music videos are all such a pleasure. Especially the robot with the human hair ones
Been to multiple past and recent concerts and can confirm Tillian's vocals are as great as they are on the album, Jon's screams go hard as fuck, Will is just Will with his guitar godness, Matt with the saucy drums, and Tim with the funk bass lines.
Their concert rocks and both the singers are the same live. My first concert was in Baltimore and after unknowingly getting into the VIP for half the show and meeting them was an out of body experience.

Old singer was great too he went to make Slaves, check them out. DGD is my favorite band hands down, they’re great live. A lot of that funky riffs aren’t found in this genre and it makes them stand out.

He's a good singer and he can hit the high notes. It doesn't sound as good and occasionally it's a little pitchy, but that's what anyone at all would sound like trying to sing like that from his range. Personally, I don't think he's the best live singer they've had, but the best in the studio.

It's tough to sustain this timbre and hit these notes without proper vocal coaching and exercises. The live performances I've seen on RUclips are hit or miss for Tillian - you can definitely tell when he's tire. But, it's entirely in keeping with all of "popular" music that singers push themselves way too hard when they write their vocal melodies. High larynx singing kills your fucking voice in the long run.

ALSO keep in mind for Tillian's cleans, he spends the entire show gyrating and dancing, so he's winding himself doing more than just singing.

I think the different style you're picking up on is that they have a lot of jazz influences, which is very unusual for this style of music.
You should check out Bloodsucker. Probably one of the heaviest songs they have done especially for Jon (dirty vocals)
