I'm relieved that Kanazawa-sensei also doesn't end up in the same place he started. You can never be sure with some of those kata, and I try to be as precise as possible when I learn them.

I think it’s kyan no chinto

The late Master Kanazawa included this Sho version in his book on Shotokan Katas. He said that the basis of this kata was an older version of Chinto that was performed in a diagonal embusen as opposed to the official JKA (Shotokan) Gangkaku which is performed in a straight line. I am a JKA practitioner of 52 years and I had been learning and investigating this kata for several years now. I watch this particular video and his son's performance of it for reference. Thanks for the post. OS!

Gichin Funakoshi did not teach this version of Chinto. I don't understand why Shotokan keeps adding these nonsense(=ruined) kata to its teaching... As a part of idividual research, learning and practicing may be acceptable. But, why would you bother altering and teaching it without understanding it?! Typical Shotokan...

Typical Shotokan??? fuck u bitch funakoshi would send his senior instructor nakayama masatoshi, isao obata to manubi sensei and he would teach them kata that were not included in funakoshi syllabus, these kata were rohai(meikyo, wankan, chinte, unsu, sochin, nijushiho(niseishi)gojushiho, jiin, and bassai sho

Gankaku-sho is a modification of the version of Chinto from Matsubayashi-Ryu. It's not "ruined;" the version of Chinto that it draws from is older than the "Gankaku" that Shotokan has now.
Why? Because modern Shotokan's main version of Gankaku is *also* a modified kata--altered from the other Shorin-Ryu version of Chinto.

When you have nothing positive nor nice to say, then do not say it. Karate Do starts and ends with respect.

@@HozukiHangetsu If the kata came directly from Matsubayashi-ryu, the body dynamics and tye principle of the movements have been lost in Gankaku Sho which is why I said it is ruined.
Even the normal Gankaku that we see today has also been changed in the same sense from how Gichin Funakoshi did. Shotokan Gankaku/Chinto was most likely created by Itosu based on Tomari Chinto. By the way, when Funakoshi first introduced Chinto, later renamed as Gankaku, Shorin-ryu was not in existance yet.

@@aito9773 I was also wrong for other reasons, but I stand by the conviction that Kanazawa branching out to take in principles of Taijiquan and Matsubayashi-ryu was nothing but a good thing.

A bleak parody of Chan Migwa no Chinto. Shame! Another traditional Kata ruined by the Shotokans!

That's a little stiff dude..are you a karate student or sensei?? Funakoshi sensei adapted okinawan karate for shotokan.
Everything transcends time and evolves on .kanazawa san was a foremost instructor for the JKA along with my late godfather Enoeda san. Nothing is ruined by continuing practice.. the origins of the Chinese quan are the base of all eventual karate kata ...things just evolve
