  • What Gregg thought was a dream at first turned into a Game-Changing Moment. After being awoken in the middle of the night by his father, Gregg was shocked to learn he was going out to see the Buddy Rich Band that night!

    “Game changing moment”
    - Greg Potter…. representing
    everything Buddy Rich ever stood
    against image and performance
    wise as a musician!!!!
    That’s the truth!!

Can you please expound? I’m just learning of Greg Potter - he’s an amazing drummer, but definitely seems like an odd dude - not just the hair, but he always seems “in character” like he’s performing even when speaks. I’ve seen a few interviews of him, and they’re all like this, really strange vibes.

GREGORY POTTER the man who is now in the history books for permanently ending the Buddy Rich Big Band.
    Surely a "Game-Changing Moment"

      Completely agree with you!!!
This fucking quack knows he is a fucking horrible fit for B.R.,
that’s why he turned off the
      comment section of the Buddy
Rich Channel!!! He knows people are carving him a new asshole!!!
He along with his girlfriend Cathy Rich are instrumental in the complete annihilation of the B.R. legacy!!!! What a disgrace to the Greatest drummer to ever play the instrument!!!!!!!

Gregg Potter's game changing moment: shacking up with Buddy's daughter and rinsing her for all she's worth.

Great Story Greg , Your playing truly honors Buddy;s legacy. My dad also took me to see Buddy at an outdoor concert in North Eastern Pennsylvania from that moment on I knew I wanted to be a drummer. Philip Gelb

I saw Buddy play live at Druid Hills HS in Atlanta back in 1982. I had the same experience as Gregg Potter: My best friend and I went together, and I remember that we were unable to listen to music on the long ride home. We just rode together in silence, stupefied by what we had just seen.

That was such a cool story! The first time other then on TV that I was turned on to the drums was with my Dad also. We had gone over to one of his co-workers house. His son who was older then me by several years had a set of drums & he started playing. I always knew that I had wanted to play. My parents wouldn't allow me to have drums until I was all grown up & out on my own. I did buy a set of Slingerlands that just so happened to have a Buddy Rich snare drum with them. I loved trying to play, but then came the Navy, marriage, kids, divorce, etc. Finally after many, many years & against my Dr's. advice I sold off my Deer hunting rifles in order to buy an Alesis DM10 electronic kit. I do what I can with them as I feel that it's good exercise for my body & great for the mind. Thanks for sharing you story!

I was fifteen and had been taking lessons and playing for several years. It was a nightclub in Rochester, NY and I ended up about four feet from the bandstand directly in front of Buddy. The night is etched in my brain. I was overwhelmed and breathless when the evening was over. Wanted to go home and practice or burn my drums...wasn't sure which? :)

Gregg, all the harsh comments are from people that don't even know you. You're a great player and you wear your success well. Take care and it's always a pleasure to see you and Cathy.

The harsh comments are about his playing, pal!! Just keeping it real!!
But,…If you think he deserves to fill Buddy Rich’s shoes in
the Buddy Rich band, then that tells me you need to get your ears checked, man!!!!

Yes he could be strange , i too had a wired experience with him, i shook his hand after a concert in 86 he looked straight into me and when i returned his stare all color drained from him and there was this awkward silence then he just broke off saying "see ya round kid" left me wondering WTF ?
