- Ryan Masales, a Canadian police officer, was diagnosed with an aggressive stage 4 brain tumor, known as glioblastoma. After exhausting all conventional treatments in Canada, Ryan and his wife, Estelize began seeking other options. It was through their research that they found the Ivy Brain Tumor Center and began their 1,500 mile journey from Canada to Arizona to enroll in a unique Ivy Phase 0 clinical trial.

I’ve lived with glioblastoma for 7 months , I’ve done 6 weeks of intense radiation and I’m still in active treatment for chemotherapy. I’m about to turn 23 in June. I sometimes still can’t process all the things I’m experiencing. I’m still waiting for it to feel numb. It’s hard living with any form of cancer but when it’s inside your head it’s a different kind of torture. I pray for everyone out there suffering that you make it and enjoy your life.

My wife Penny was diagnosed 13 1/2 years ago with glioblastoma. She was 62. She is thriving now with only minor short-term memory issues and word recall problems occasionally. She did only standard of care (resection, chemo, and radiation. She turns 75 next month. We expected 6-12 months of survival. There is hope people.

@@abhidhaverma8712 I have no idea. She did SOC only - no supplements or life style changes. She is a very upbeat, optimistic person. However, I am sure that could be said of many who do not survive also. Plain luck is all I can attribute her long term survival. Good luck to you and your dad.

The amount of “my so and so died from this” comments on here and they say this cancer is one of the rarest yet it seems to be so common now, it breaks my heart. Here’s to hope for a cure one day

Not the rarest by a long shot. It is the #1 cancer killer in children and young adults. 25k cases every year in US only.
My adult son was diagnosed with glioblastoma in April of this year. Hospice became involved immediately, and he passed in June while I was caring for him at home. Such a fast moving relentless cancer. Thankfully he went to be with the Lord very peacefully.

I'm sorry for your loss. However I believe there is life after death. I'll be also undergoing radiation therapy for my prostate cancer which I was recently diagnosed few weeks ago.
My father died at the age of 41 with a glioblastoma. I was 17 at the time. My mother was left with 4 children to raise by herself. My mom and my dad were the two strongest and good people I ever knew! I miss them both so much!

My Brother had this. He lasted 2 years. Couldn't do surgery because it was in the middle of his brain. He was courages till the end. I miss him. He was my best friend. He was 47.
My mom had it as well. She passed away 10 months after her diagnosis. She was 46

My dad was diagnosed with glioblastoma (brain) in Nov 2021. After a week, around 60% had been removed via major operation. Based on his current condition (weak), we could only go for radiotherapy (15 sessions). i’m here with my dad in the hospital. help us to pray for my dad, so that he wouldn’t give up in this fight.

Ryan Masales died on March 26, 2020 at the age of 46. He did qualify for one phase of the trial, but not for another. RIP.
My best friend has grade 4. He was diagnosed 10 years ago. Still going strong 💪 there is hope ❤

My brother had just turned 60 when he died from an inoperable Glioblastoma. He said he had had a good life and had been fortunate to see his two daughters grow up. others are not so lucky. So sad about Ryan as he was a young man with a young child.
My wife had a tumor removed a month ago and is now on chemo, and radiation for the next 6 weeks, she has lost some of her vision in her left eye, and has issues with her left hand and foot, they did an MRI and said the cancer is back, she’s 57, Our lives have changed, it’s a tuff battle and she is trying to stay positive, I’m hiding My tears from her, praying for the best.

My twin sister was diagnosed wIth GBM with mild stroke symptoms. She had surgery two days later to remove tumor. Three weeks later it had grown back completely so had surgery again…she died six weeks after her diagnosis without ever making it to chemo/radiation. Horrible shocking disease
My uncle has same issue. Operated first time, well recovered but within 2 weeks he fall sick and we identified it's grown agin. We did another operation last week. Don't know what will happen next week. Please help me to understand, what happen to ur sis post second surgery, so I can take precautions, thanks

I was born with a benign tumor so it was basically nothing . . . But it came back in 4th grade, and at that moment, I realized . . . You don’t know how long you’ll get to live your life, so live your life everyday!

My dad passed away in 2000 from a glio. It was in his frontal lobe, he was diagnosed at 36yo and we had him for 4years. Which, for 1995-2000 time and a glio is unheard of. MD Anderson was aggressive in their treatment and sent him to Boston and Phoenix for clinical trials once they ran out of options. While he was with us for that time, he truly wasn’t. He was never the same after his first surgery. I was 16 at the time and would give anything for 10 more minutes with my daddy. I hope the clinical trials my dad went through, give someone more time with their families 💜

My husband has glioblastoma stage 4 . They removed his tumor in May, and it grew back in October. They removed his tumor for the second time. He did chemo and radiation, and it grew back bigger than it was the first time. He is now on hospice. They say he is in the last stage of life.

hello my mother diagnosed of glioblastoma last 2021 , she had first operation last year january and second was march then the doctor told me that the cancer is grade 4 and she can only live for only 6 months i was losing my hope because i lost my dad and i dont wanna lose her thats why i did everything for her to survive but suddenly she passed away this year last january and i was so damn depressed rn because shes only 43 and i really miss her

My farther had a GBM 4 in 2006, 8 months after being diagnosed we laid him to rest. A GBM 4 is a very aggressive cancer.

Deeply sorry for your loss, my mum got diagnosed with Glioblastoma on April this year (2021) she can't go through to any operation due to the location of the tumour, it almost 8 months now and she is doing great! She's having problem with her right side, her speech and her memory but apart from that she doing really well. Thank God our saviour for miracle

@@yoseffreedman6926 absolutely get a 2nd opinion and molecular testing so you know what medications or clinical trials he'll be eligible for. As I explained elsewhere on this forum, we waited too long and the medicine they were giving my husband wasn't working at all. God help us all, this is a journey from hell. The worst part is being helpless and not able to control your loved ones symptoms as you watch in horror as they slowly die every day.
My niece is 6 years old and has brain cancer. She has less then 6 month....... So sad when it's a child
My ex died from a gbm frontal lobe. From diagnosis he made it about 5 months. I think it’s crazy how so many people have gbm’s. There has to be a common denominator. It’s 2021 you would think we would have some solutions by now. Prayers to everyone

It's very fast & deadly disease
My husband was in the navy. He died at 44 yr from GBM. Had surgery and treatment. He was good for maybe 12 months. Our daughter was 10. I loved the hospice experience and watched for him to see spirits etc. He did and he would giggle and grab at the air ( because he could see the spirits). I laid with him a lot and he had a moment of clarity the day before he died. It was beautiful.

Lost my mother in Sept 2014 of the same tumor; found in Jan 2014. She was such a strong, smart and professional lady and to watch her reduced to bedridden and unable to care for herself was beyond anything I could comprehend. I feel that there may have been other options for her that were never considered by the professionals; but now we'll never know. My sympathies to all families that have watched a loved one pass from this type of tumor.

My daughter had a GBM, but she had an excellent surgery. Last year she had a re-occurrence after 9 years, but it was a non-graded astrocytoma. That was a year ago this month. Life is precious and we know how freaking lucky to be way outside the curve! Bless Brian and his family.
@Diamond her first symptom was a seizure at home. Then when she was in the ER she had a grand mal seizure so they sedated her and did a CT scan. She just had an MRI yesterday and they said you can go to every three months now🙏💪

My mom passed in Augustus after being diagnosed with gbm in February. It was a great inconvenience to her - brave warrior woman we all dearly miss.
My mother was diagnosed with glioblastoma on middle of brain 3 years ago we did her sucessful operation in September 2020 then took 2 months of radiotherapy and then chemotherapy for a year
Her left side of body got paralised now a month ago 22 april she died.
She survived for 3 years and 6 months i hope may god gave her place in heaven

My twinbrother passed away last september, with only a few month of glioblastoma. Such merciless cancer. Only 47 my brother became before he died. So suddenly it happened.
So sad. My Dad died of a Brain Tumour 43 years ago, its normally quick how fast it takes them and how helpless you feel.
It is a shame that millionaires can vacation in space but the treatment for cancer is much the same as it was 43 years ago. It is such a helpless feeling when doctors look at you and say there is nothing they can do, RIP

@@shawnahenry2228 Just seen your reply, i remember i was 17 and went in office with my sister in big Hospital in North East where he was patient, Doctor said they could not operate and he had 6 months to live, that was December 1978 and he died February 1979! 2 months later. Surreal is all i can say and helpless and what really upsets me Brain Tumours are still a death sentence!

So sorry for everyone's losses here. May God and time help heal all of our pain. My husband had his glioblastoma removed in November of 2021. Then 30 days of radiation & chemo. He was given a 30 day rest so we drove from PA to Florida and spent the month of February in a nice warm climate. He is currently taking chemo pills monthly and will continue this treatment for 4 more months. He just turned 64 and I pray every day for a miracle. I.m thankful for every day I have to love him.

@@IvyBrainTumorCenter we are so heartbroken. It has been 6 months since his surgery, radiation & chemo. We've stopped the Temodar because the tumor has grown irraticaly and is now in both hemispheres of the brain. Sadly our local hospital, Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA never sent his results for molecular testing 6 months ago! Now I fear it's too late to try another drug since the standard treatment of Temodar did not work for him. I pray he doesn't suffer while it grows and we await a 2nd opinion from Johns Hopkins in Baltimore MD. Does anyone know of a brain donation center that we could donate his brain to, or can that only be done if he is in the hospital when he passes? I want him at home, since I don't feel Geisinger has helped us and I don't trust them.

My mother died about 22 years ago from glioblastoma. I've just heard diagnosis figures have doubled in twenty years. Her local doctor just told us we both needed to see to see a psychologist, when we demonstrated our difficulty talking to each other in front of him. I saw later that my mother tried to write and her handwriting was declining. She had a strong accent from Europe and Australian doctors could not understand that she was telling them she felt pressure in her head.
I was looking after her for months without a diagnosis. For some respite, as she was getting up in the middle of the night, and I had my own medical stuff, I had her stay a week in a local hospital - on my side of the state border. The head nurse asked how old she was, as friends thought she looked 60. When I said 76, the nurse said that many old women point to their head! She was indicating where the cancer was.
We lived in Australia, but I can't believe that we're in the year 2023, as fifty years ago when people went to the moon, it was expected that most cancers would be cured or managed by now.
I was told, I had three to five years life expectancy in 1987, for a different incurable illness at that time, so I've always been keen on finding out what variables affect our health. Since there was no treatment at that time, I had to look into naturopathy to extend my life until there were orthodox treatments that worked. Now, most of my family and all my friends have died for one reason or another.
Isolation has been terrible, when we live near Australia's bordering states with 'lockdowns' causing more stress, and lowering my immune system. I have constant shingles, and must fight orthodox state medicine for high dose acyclovir, as no-one is supposed to have shingles constantly. Our medical system seems to only deal with certain medical conditions, but not more complex cases, when we have side effects such as iatrogenic auto-immune conditions from being a guinea pig to programs that have us inject ourselves with Interleukin II - way above the natural amounts that help the immune system.
I though I was having auto-immune renal thrombosis again, and took an ambulance into a hospital. It was during Covid-19 peak times. They tested me for Covid - which was positive, and then scans said I had multiple lymphomas around the waist. But, they then got me to leave at 10pm. Medicine appears to be absent these days.
About five years after my mother died, an Australian man, diagnosed with glioblastoma at 35 years old, was lucky that his uncle in Norway was studying Glioblastoma, and went to Norway, and seemed to receive some success in treating it. But I could not find any follow up about this. Another man on RUclips managed to survive more than ten years with his combination of treatments.
My mother's specialist said it would have been too distressing for my mother to have surgery, as it was very large by the time a hospital diagnosed her. She had started hallucinating by this time, but was able to speak French when I took her home for a few weeks. It was distressing for me attempting to talk to my mother in hospital in a ward of four patients.
[It was odd. The room she died in seemed to be the same one I had nearly died in in 1986. My brother died in hospital after bleeding after surgery - with no doctor available at four in the morning.
Mother died 15 months after my brother. I wondered if this triggered her glioblastoma. My brother had caused a lot of stress, and put a microwave oven in her kitchen - at head height. Mother would stand watching things in it after Robert died. She also used electric blankets, sat too close to electric heaters, and I gave her a cordless phone.
If I wake up with a headache, it's very likely that my mobile phone is right next to my head in bed. I've also experienced terrible headaches and nausea from high-pitched emissions from my heater. The nausea immediately stopped when the thermostat switched the heater off.
A friend also looked after his mother at home with glioblastoma. Our mothers were both of Germanic stock.
Surely data should have been collected about any aspects in one's life that may be related as to why people get certain illnesses. My mother's specialist just said, they have no idea what causes glioblastoma, and that they won't have any useful treatment for another thirty years!
However, all data is on the WWW computer of everything, and available for the elite rulers in control who build shelters deep underground for probable Earth disasters. There's no profit in curing people, but $Billions in keeping people alive with illnesses that need constant expensive medications.

My sister Joanne was diagnosed last December. Stage IV inoperable due to the location of the tumor near the brainstem. The only sympton she had at first was issues with her vision. She has done radiation and chemo pills. Treasuring every moment with her. I can't even imagine our lives without her. Praying for more time and a miracle.

My boyfriend just retired from being a cop due to having glioblastoma. He was diagnosed in January, it's almost August. I thought maybe we could enjoy our time that we have but it's not like I imagined, its a roller coaster with ups and downs and his out of control anger. He is now declining a great deal in speech, activity, interests, had a fall 8/28/23 was in hospital 3 more days. Released now to palliative/hospice or we can decide on IV Avastin, although he already has HBP, and adv. ulcerative colitis, which makes it somewhat risky for stomach/bowel perforation w/Avastin, big decisions to make this week about that, meanwhile, because he fell, they scanned him earlier than normal, while his last scheduled scan was 7/27/23 (all clear), his 8/28, hospital ct/mri scans show he now has significany swelling not only in his left temp lobe where cancer started, but also in his 2-frontal lobes now too, also pushing his brain past the midline shift 7mm, as in the beginning of all of this. Glioblastoma really is a deadly cancer which is taking the young and old. Treatment hasn't really progressed in 20 year's which is shocking. Because they say that glioblastoma is still a relatively rare cancer it only receives 1% of research funding here in the UK! This is astonishing to me, more needs to be done to try and find better treatment for this awful cancer

My brother (eldest) died with glioblastoma after 2 surgeries to remove as much as they could. It was like an octopus, and getting all the parts out surgically would have killed him immediately. He survived about nine months from the first diagnosis.
My brother was diagnosed in 2018. He passed in 2020. He was a warrior and it was something we never imagined it would happen.
My friends wife has this currently. They have a small son, so sad. Cannot imagine what's going through there heads at the moment. Videos like this are inspiring, but show you that ultimately cancer will win this battle.

It really is a vicious cancer. Survival rates haven't really improved in 40 years. It's so hard to treat because of how aggressive it is.

I remember when that news anchor died. Now my brother has it . Surgery, then stroke on operating table. Surgery in February, now at home not doing so well ( September). Wife totally hopeful thru the Lord. Ugly disease. Tumor was size of large baseball. Pray for Bill. Thanks.
A glioblastoma took my sister's life in 1993. She was 51. I am 12 years younger and she was my best friend and mentor. It broke my heart. I had forgotten this word. I'm very sorry that Ryan lost his fight. My condolences to his family and friends. 😢 She had surgery to remove as much of the thing as possible at Scripts in La Jolla. Interestingly, my mother had a brain stem tumor that was successfully removed, but my other sister died from metastasis of melanoma in 1961 at the age of 17. Pops died of cancer in 1981. Seems we're cursed.

They are so aggressive and grow back because when they take the tumour out they cannot get all the cells, My farther passed away from a Glioblastoma stage 4 brain tumour in 2006.

They can remove the tumor itself, but it's the tentacles that branch out that they're unable to - that ultimately allow it to regrow.

I lost my brother to glioblastoma 10-5-10, he was 46. We fought for 17 months along side him the whole way, continuously surrounded by friends and family. He died peacefully at home with our mom holding him in her arms, same as the day he came into this world. All my brother wanted was for the Lord Jesus to be glorified no matter the outcome, and He was and forever is! My heart is full for all of you who shared the loss of your loved ones ❤️

It wasn’t until he had a seizure that he was diagnosed… of course immediate surgery, chemo, radiation, clinical trials in Houston Tx. Eventually loss of cognitive functions, vision, speech, paralysis, organ failure, sepsis then he passed. He just slowly deteriorated over 17 months. In that course of time there were many other symptoms, but too much to go into, I just wish to keep it simple. It’s still hurts, but I am ok to reply to you. ❤️🩹

My Dad died at 52 years old in 1979 with a front lobal brain tumour, and it saddens me that far to many people are still dying of Brain Tumours! They need more research and more better methods of dealing with them.

I lost my dad to this, he'd never been sick in his life, never went to a doctor. He was 71 when diagnosed, he lasted 56 days. It was nearly 30 years ago, so hard, the whirlwind of it all, it made me fearful for my health ever since. My mum died at the same age, different thing, but she was never sick either.........Dad had sudden stress at the time with a property matter, the neurologist/oncologist said it was usual in younger people, he thought that the stress had caused it.

My husband has been wonderful as well, but this tumor has changed him & I hope I remember him as he was and not the agitated hurtful person he has become with this monster in his brain. He won't listen to good sense and Im afraid the drugs etc and these illnesses have changed him and i too now have to live with someone whose personality has been completely changed by illness. My heart goes out to you because I know how much it hurts when the personality changes start. It is so hard to come to terms and finally decide to just let your loved one go. I often wonder if the personality changes are actually for our benefit, so we realize it's not fair to keep them alive for us anymore or that we need to step back and let a caregiver to the difficult stuff, so all we have to give them is love and support, without being the the one they direct their anger to. We begin to feel as if we are being cruel. It is so hard when we are just grasping at any chance of hope to help the one we love. Death is so cruel, perhaps God should not have rested that last day, and found a better way for this to happen. Sending hugs your way.

My father had glioblastoma. His first symptoms were about 2 years before diagnosis. He started noticing mild short term memory loss at age 59. About a year later, he stated it felt like he had a band around his head. When he turned 61, he had SEVERE headaches especially in the morning. He also had body temperature problems fluctuating between chills and then getting hot and sweaty. He needed 5 blankets for the chills. Then he forgot driving directions. He got night sweats. He was also hypoglycemic most of his life, which turned into diabetes at age 55.
Blood tests were always normal when visiting the dr about the headaches. After 6 months, the dr told him to go to the hospital to see if they could find the problem.
He was given 6-8 months to live and died 5 months later 1 week after turning 62. Chemo did not work. He decided not to do radiation. The tumor was inoperable and located in the cerebellum. About a month after diagnosis, he had trouble with his balance and couldn't find the bathroom in a house he'd lived in for 30 years. A hospital bed was put in the den. He slept most of the time once he couldn't walk anymore. Mom was basically the hospice nurse, changing diapers and feeding him. Towards the last 3 months, he lost 100 lbs. He had to switch from solid foods to soft food like pudding that didn't need to be chewed. Then he lost his ability to swallow. He became unresponsive about 5 days before the end with labored breathing.

My dear brother passed away from glioblastoma in 1982 at age 36. There doesn’t seem to be much progress in treating this cancer.

This has to be one of the worst cancers of them all. I mean, they all suck, but this one especially. It's completely relentless. With so many other cancers there are glimmers of hope. There are testaments of people beating, or living for many years with some Stage IV cancers, but with this one it is literally all just doom - most not living much longer than 1-2 years after diagnosis. There are very few people on this Earth that truly deserve this cruel disease. So unfair. I hope one day there is a breakthrough in medical research of glioblastoma, so that future patients can live longer, and hopefully even one day be cured.

treat the tumor.
My partner passed last year with inoperable liver cancer, we never ever gave up, even up to his last day, the last thing he said to me was everything will be on now your here, he was in a hospice and I laid on his bed with him and cuddled him till he fell asleep for the last time xx

My dad was diagnosed with glioblastoma in august 2022 and now his Tumor has reoccurred in may 2023 and the present scan in July shows that the size has increased and Tumor progression in evident. He doesn’t appear to be weak and is very much enthusiastic.

My brother had same diagnosis glioblastoma stay in hospital 2-3 days was sent home on hospice care and 4 days later succumbed. .He was so sick they wouldn’t survive a biopsy It sucks.
They wouldn’t give my husband a biopsy either, he died three weeks after diagnosis.

Glioblastoma is always terminal. My MIL was diagnosed in Oct 1995 and died only 2 months later in Jan 1996. Going through all the radiation treatments and rehab was hard on her and left her immune system weakened and vulnerable to infection. She actually died of sepsis, not cancer. During the weeks of her treatments she was miserable, stayed in her bedroom crying and praying. She was a good hardworking housewife and mother who felt God punished her. She had always supported the clergy of her Catholic Church, but they ignored her when she needed them most. A tragic end to her life at age 78. Sometimes the treatments are worse than a quick death. Her family wishes she had passed away on the operating table so that she would not suffer such grief and depression.
There's a guy called Pablo Kelly that's lived 9 years with Glioblastoma, he's followed a strict keto meat based diet. There is always hope.❤

My husband had surgery rad & chemo 10/18/18. It was completely removed. He was re dxd in May this year. 9/11 he had a 25 min myoclonic seizure . Hes on Hospice at home. He has far outlived his expiration date of 6-12 mos. 3 yrs in October ...Its like advanced Alzheimer's. He is decreasing his swallowing. I kno it will then be time for morphine only. I love him so
