This pack was the biggest disappointment for many, many players, but there is something good about it, at least we have your videos to watch! Love your work, Carl!
They meant create your own story after a mod has been created that allows you to do anything of depth or value with this pack.... like the rest of them, except this one takes the prize for weakest pack and game play.
For that ONE reasons alone (ignoring allllllllllllll the other reasons), I will not purchase this. Maybe also because I can't get behind the ignoring of basic Star Wars Canon in this pack. >
Introvert Sara I imagined it a bit like the vampire level system where you can select a limited amount of force abilities from Star Wars canon and have a scale showing your standing with the force ranging from sith, to grey Jedi, to light side Jedi.
@@Mfestt12 I get the very strong impression that Maxis did not want to do this at all, was pressured by EA to do it due to the latter's Disney partnership, and made it broken and hollow out of sheer spite, knowing that the Sims license was so strong they would be easily able to weather whatever corporate fallout or sales dips would result until they could make something actually worthwhile later.
That thing about not being able to fly because your droid is broken will completely baffle Simmers who have never seen Star Wars (which is actually the majority of them). It’s not ‘critical thinking’ - it’s confusing! Sims players should not have to have Star Wars knowledge to play their game!
Oh for sure, the critical thinking was definitely me being sarcastic. I only barely realized it might be that. It's a truly silly problem but I assume a bug they will fix.
HerHollyness it's a crossover pack with a stand alone franchise , so they may need Star Wars/ galaxy's edge knowledge for the pack based on those things.
The least they could've done was forced you to put the droid into your inventory while you're flying! It's sensible because I have seen Star Wars but irritating that they included this restriction when it breaks but don't make that a restriction to actually function as a pilot. They could've given you an objective to get/have a droid in your inventory as part of every flight mission instead of going "but we know they want to fly; we can't make them wait!" And the thing is if they'd done that, then people who've never seen Star Wars would automatically understand because then the Sims game would use gameplay to explain that "you need a droid to fly this ship." You know, because that's how games tell a story.
So, Sims 2 when they stripped everything from the Sims 1 and made small improvements, or maybe Sims 3 where they did the same but made the game so buggy and a mess that playing it was tedious. The Sims series from the get-go has been a cash grab.
Wow :( the only thing I was even remotely looking forward to was a potential extension of night life, cool restaurants, bars, night clubs, etc. it’s super disappointing that you can’t change the lot types, that was the last redeeming quality I was hoping it would have, but nope! AND no birthdays or weddings?!? I didn’t even know I wanted that, but damn! Throwing your kids birthday here or having a wedding for two geeks would’ve actually been cool!
certainly seems like Batu should have been a literal theme park where your teen/young adult sims can get a part time job as the characters with a mini career path where you start out controlling the droids and working your way up to playing Rey or Kylo
I think that was the original intention, which is why the 'aliens' are just sims in masks and costumes, and why they look like normal sims if you manage to get them to come home with you, and that is entirely doable without cheats. I also believe it was Kathleen Kennedy herself, CEO of Lucasfilm, who vetoed the idea because vetoing cool ideas is what she does. It must be in her job description.
This pack would've been 100% better if they fully leaned into it. Make it a Disney/Amusement park pack, with roller coasters and the like. They could've made the map exactly the same as Galaxy's Edge without trying to stretch it to three travel zones, and almost NOTHING WOULD'VE HAD TO BE CHANGED FROM THE GAMEPLAY WE WERE GIVEN. Plus, it makes more sense in that context. Force-less lightsabers you can't do anything but display or practice with? They're toys. All you can take home with you are plushies, keepsakes, and knickknacks? They're gift shop souvenirs. Just call it like it is, because trying to pass it off as some authentic experience is absolutely SHAMEFUL.
Exactly. They could've done a proper theme park or they could've done a new planet but instead, we got this weird mix that doesn't work. I honestly think EA spent too long debating which it was and by the time they decided it was another planet, there wasn't enough time to flesh that idea out. Like, it still would've been lean gameplay because it's Sims 4 but if they'd worked on it more they could've given us a lot more too, in either direction. :(
Batuu is strictly considered so immersive that they literally can't make it a theme park pack. When people go to Galaxy's Edge in the actual park everyone there is a citizen. That's how strict they are.
@@Chiiminako Then why don't they have easy to find toilets or any benches whatsoever? (SMH at Galaxy's Edge BS... it's like calling customers in retail stores "guests.")
@@DoveJS @J. Stanley they do call customers guests at the Disney theme parks. Were you not able to find a toilet in Galaxy's Edge? (I'm not understanding this question or what it has to do with anything)
I completely agree with Qwerty A Disney theme park pack would have been awesome, the pack ended up too shallow and superficial because they were so focused on Disneyfiying a pack that was not closely related to Disney until recently.
There is a mod by Neilsimming that also turns the masks into skins (all over the body too, not just as gloves and hats), so you can use aliens as your playable sims. Definitely an essential mod if you can download them
You can't?! Well... where were you going to wear them?! Ugh. That just makes no sense. Of all the things to do... I'm going to assume they just legit didn't think about it or had such deadline restrictions that it got forgotten. :(
Do you have MCCC? I got around this by creating the outfit as an every day outfit in my home world then dressing in the outfit on Batuu and copying the details in the dresser menu. Then when it changed me back to the Batuu outfit I pasted the outfit details onto it. Solved :)
I'm a big starwars fan and sims fan. I was one of the few willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, thinking that there would still be a lot of fun to be had by mixing in things from all of the other packs. But not only did they make it so that none of the things from other packs work in batuu. They also made it so that the few good things from batuu dont work if you take them back home. This is defenetly the worst pack they have ever made.
I'm really sorry to hear it, it sucks to be disappointed in a not one but two franchises that you love. I don't blame you for having a bit more faith in them than this. Not a good SW pack, not a good Sims pack... the most limiting of all packs.
sims 2 is a bit better cuz is more stable and performance, the crashes are a big turn off on ts3 (try search some tutorial for better performance). try the sims medieval too, is a good quest based sims game. Overall they all are fun games, even ts1 worth a try, but for playing only ts2 and ts3, ts4 only if its heavy moded, but ts3 have good mods too
@@CarlsSimGuides I honestly think there was a long and drawn-out debate, amongst the devs and the higher-ups or just amongst the higher-ups themselves (possibly even with Disney lol), about whether this was a theme park or an actual planet and they took so long to decide or kept changing their minds, that by the time they decided for sure that it was going to be another planet there was a big scramble to support immersion and not enough time for the devs to flesh anything out. Like, we always knew it'd be lean on gameplay but this lack of decisiveness is probably what made things even worse. That's my guess. And during this time, they could easily spend most of their effort on just the assets so... ya know. :p
@@DoveJS they could actually just make a planet to each outpost. It feels like that right now cause you can't even see an outpost from another! It would have been great if your sim actually traveled there with the ship as he lands in and just Teleport ( there still would be a loading screen tho.)
Going to the toilet is a rabbit hole in this pack?! That says it all, really. My objection from the start has been that I didn't think the Star Wars world integrate very well (or at all) with the Sims one, but I have to admit I never thought they'd take the lack of integration so far that they'd disable entire packs (eg Realm of Magic) to make it happen.
The fact that Batuu is limiting you so much, no pets, no spellcasting, no vampire powers, no so much features from other dlcs is just screams about bad gameplay design.
I actually don’t think this is smart assy at all, Carl! You laid out a good argument that the majority of quirks and exceptions can be explained by restrictions from the Disney partnership. That’s a lot more helpful insight than just being like ~omg this trash just murdered my childhood 😱😱😱
The fact that they didnt make this a standalone game, when they have clearly done everything in their power to make it a standalone experience, is honestly criminal. The best sims features are the ones that integrate well with other packs/the base game and so them deliberately removing these aspects removes all long-term playability of the pack. Its disappointing, and they really should have known better.
i remember having great fun with the sims medieval. Why they didn't make a seperate the sims starwars goes beyond me, could have have fake lightsabers and boombox droids in the normal game as promotional material
The sims medieval was freaking epic…I think I was hoping for that kind of gameplay but the Star Wars one is disappointing…I played it once and couldn’t get very far up the ranks bc it was so glitchy
A sci-fi pack we didn't ask for... Sounds like Into the future... Wait, that actually added some gameplay, brought the Plumbots and wasn't SUCH and obvious cash grab...
Into the future felt insanely rich at the time. New mechanics, new vehicles, new skills, new instruments and a new world to explore. I wouldn't call it a cash grab by any stretch. This one has like three things to do and they seem to be talking to people, flying around in the new rockets and going back home.
The worst thing Into the Future did was show a "secret" advertisement for The Sims 4. Imagine uncovering that ad for the first time, getting super excited for what The Sims 4 could possibly become, just for it all to result in what may be the worst six years of the entire series. Talk about feeling heartbroken and ripped off.

"locked out of easy magic so you can't get a sense of pride and accomplishment" oh carl, sneaky carl, with the snarky references! the singing alien will also haunt us all in our sleep
Welp, I was most looking forward to taking Vlad there and having him become a Jedi because that's hilarious to me, but I guess that's not even in the cards, huh?
Oh man, that would be amazing! You could still take him there to do stuff but yeah... no actual Jedi. Just give him a lame lightsaber so he can battle Rey or Kylo Ren. :(
I remember Sims 3 allowing you to combine multiple expansion features for your own leisure... Such as making Ghost Potions at the Chemistry table to go through walls in the Ambitions Firefighter profession, while it's a blizzard outside due to the Seasons expansion.
The more I hear about this pack, the more it feels like a bad joke... Or like they made it bad on purpose, so we will think the next pack will be better, because we have seen how bad it can actually be.
Just going to throw out there that despite their attempts to make everything “fair” and “balanced” by disabling supernaturals’ powers, vampires can still be pretty broken on Batuu: - “Freshen Up” fills their thirst, quicker than they could even do it by hunting sims - They don’t need to eat from the very unsatisfying food stands - They keep their PASSIVE powers only - so you can take Odorless, Beyond the Herd and Immortal pleasures to mean you only need to focus on thirst. Vampire energy doesn’t seem to drain at all on Batuu, because it’s considered cloudy all the time so they don’t burn, and they aren’t using powers - Child of the Moon also seems to work to cut motive decay and increase skill gain at night - Unsure if Vampiric Strength works, my sim still lost plenty of fights If anyone can think of any other passive benefits that might help on Batuu, let me know. Not tried the emotion deadening perk, but I can’t see that being a huge boon. Funnily enough, their weaknesses will still work... Though I guess Guilty Drinker, Sloppy Drinker, Thin Skinned, Sleep of the Undead, and Fitful Sleep are all negated. Just don’t take one with Day Phobia, Eternal Sadness and Insatiable Thirst if you want them to have a pleasant “vacation” on Batuu.
Hey, I don't remember the weakness name, but I bet they can constantly hiss and make every other Sim hate them still. And it won't matter because no one has to like you when you're on Batuu! :D
Why can't you be an alien in Batuu? I made a crew of Twi'lek, Bith and Zabrak and when you go to Batuu the game changes your appearance to a human. Wasn't supposed to have my Star Wars adventure?
6 years of Sims 4, and the only thing they put out that it's not broken is this useless addition... adding a color picker skin tone = EA/Maxis answer "it's too hard" (which is just 1 variable to store the color. some 20 lines of code for the color picker and like 3 extra lines for the shader...) filtering out ALL the features not of this pack, making sure there are no bugs because "dogs in outer space are unacceptable!" and that it's actually a lot harder and took a lot more effort. yeah they don't care about their players at all
It's not their priority by any means as it's not gonna make profit. Working on a pack sponsored by Disney on the other hand will sure make profit so there goes the priority. There's a new mod review on pixelade channel which made me very upset because that's what people wanted since a long time and this mod is done by 1 person while EA feeds us with "we can't add ice-cream to the fridge, it's impossible".
As a Star Wars fan, this pack makes me really sad. If it had been a spin off game, and fully developed out like Sims Medieval, it could’ve been fantastic! They missed an opportunity there. Won’t be purchasing this one. Thanks for the honest reviews Carl!
I’m annoyed that they give us this but they don’t give us a force user lifestate where your decisions and training could either veer towards the light, dark, or grey
Thanks Carl! I need to come back here any time I start thinking "Oh but the just world looks so cool, I bet I could make my own fun living there." Nope. No you can't. Wow. It's so stripped back that it's neither a Star Wars nor a Sims game. It's just an interactive advert 😞
Have fun and be sure to let us all know. Probably either you hit a dead end, and cannot kill further, or they endlessly spawn new Rey and Kylo actors so you can keep it up.

no gonk droid no buy. simples. but seriously how was it possible to be let down by a pack when i didnt have any expectations of it succeeding to begin with? :(
I wholeheartedly agree. I’m so disappointed in this pack. I’m a huge fan of Star Wars and that’s why I got it. I really should’ve waited and watched some gameplays becaue had I known that it was so lackluster I would’ve saved my $20 and that’s coming from someone that has found something worthwhile in EVERY pack I have (most of which I got on sale). I can’t believe they didn’t even make it as good as Realm of Magic. It blows my mind how completely pointless this game is. When I completed the first order missions I didn’t even know i had “won” because there was no alert, nothing!!! There’s so much wrong with this I keep feeling like it was unfinished. Like they were only half way done with it and they ran out of time and they just released it for some odd reason. If this kind of thing is the future of the SIMS 4 then I def won’t be buying any more packs.
I think one of the biggest punch in the nuts is how they advertised that you're going to meet new species and all, but every single citizen are just normal sims with alien costumes, meaning that they're basically decorative and have no new abilities whatsoever.
The one thing they could have done is disable vampires dying in sunlight for batuu so you know they don’t wreck everything I wanted to have a cool vampire resistance member but was attracted to the dark side via their possession of roofed buildings
One of the points the Sims Team used to defend this pack was that it would integrate into other parts of the game... But a lot of Batuu features are locked out in other worlds, and a lot of features from other worlds are locked out in Batuu. That's a step beyond the evasive responses to their lackluster releases... THEY FLAT OUT LIED.
Funny thing.... because I have a weird sense of humor and like to test things not too unlike you, I made an alien character for playing in Batuu and, for the hell of it, I used cheats to take Kylo Ren back to "Sims World." But.... Kylo Ren was made a mute. Except when he was speaking Star Wars dialog. So it was like my Sim and Kylo spoke using sign language. Needless to say, they even had a kiddo together.... Their child was mute.... no crying, no talking, etc. And because of how animated Sims are when talking, it was actually surprisingly touching to imagine they were all speaking with sign language to one another. Unfortunately, that Save File ended up glitching for some reason and I had to delete it. It was fun while it lasted though!
As a Star Wars fan I was beyond excited about this pack.... That is, until I saw how bad it is. I mean, you can romance Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny, but Rey and Kylo Ren? No, that would ruin the magic
The remote controlled Droid car though. 🤣 As for spellcaster sims, Zero has already made a mod to let us inferniate and zigzag away on Batuu if we want too! Its a shame we needed a mod to do that. Edit: I think the mod is for all supernaturals.
I figured it out: sims Baatu is really a roleplay theme park. the "aliens" are really cosplayers and droids are remote-controlled by puppeteers behind the scene .... ok, who am I kidding, it's just broken beyond repair

Many players were complaining that some pack was way too separated from others and original game, that they doesn't influence the gameplay outside the pack itself. And not we get a pack that practically far surpassed those packs

This dlc is more bare bones that the base game.
Somehow or another you buy this + base game and come away knowing less about the base game and unable to use all its features. Fascinating.
For a game pack that’s suppose to interest new buyers it’s interesting that they would disable all these interactions 🤔
@@ChaosWolf1982 but all the packs are broken and unplayable?
@@captainswagger2838 People shouldn't have to do homework to enjoy a game. It'll just alienate most players

What, you want to USE the pack and create YOUR star wars story? Nonono *sounds of features being blocked *
certainly seems like Batu should have been a literal theme park where your teen/young adult sims can get a part time job as the characters with a mini career path where you start out controlling the droids and working your way up to playing Rey or Kylo
That would've been interesting and not lore-breaking though, so 🤷♀️
For a theme park pack to work in this manner, it would have to not be Disney.
that would’ve been so much fun!
I completely agree with Qwerty
A Disney theme park pack would have been awesome, the pack ended up too shallow and superficial because they were so focused on Disneyfiying a pack that was not closely related to Disney until recently.
The thing I hate that you can't do is wear the alien masks on Batuu. So you can't even RP as an alien there.
@@alksandra Yes, like an amusement park.

This video further proves that this pack should’ve been a spinoff and not a game pack.
Ya know thats actually a good idea, an entire spinoff game like TS2 Castaway or TS3 Medieval would like a star wars version of those

As a Star Wars fan dipping my toe back into Sims who side eyed this pack from day one, this is a great reason not to buy it.
I've recently started to play Sims 3 and I had no idea HOW FUN IT IS !!!! Really, I'm making a generation :0
At least Katy Perry's Sweet Treats is up front about what you get.
sims 2 is a bit better cuz is more stable and performance, the crashes are a big turn off on ts3 (try search some tutorial for better performance). try the sims medieval too, is a good quest based sims game.
Overall they all are fun games, even ts1 worth a try, but for playing only ts2 and ts3, ts4 only if its heavy moded, but ts3 have good mods too
tfw you have a mac and sims 3 hates apple
Yea, Sims 4 is the worst by far
Filipe Golineli I can't get sims 2 anywhere. Or at least I can't find it...
We should be able to use the force..
Yep. That's a *horrible* decision.
I don't even see the point of this pack when you can't really do any real SW-related stuff in it?
Should've been a spin-off.
The type of video I need to get me through my night shift while I’m doing notes 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Carl , you’re the hero we need
The fact that Batuu is limiting you so much, no pets, no spellcasting, no vampire powers, no so much features from other dlcs is just screams about bad gameplay design.
EA/Disney is the only entity I can think of that charges you for removing gameplay features.

Into the future felt insanely rich at the time. New mechanics, new vehicles, new skills, new instruments and a new world to explore. I wouldn't call it a cash grab by any stretch. That's honestly better than the whole "journey to batuu" pack. You're creative
The more I hear about this pack, the more it feels like a bad joke... Or like they made it bad on purpose, so we will think the next pack will be better, because we have seen how bad it can actually be.
Just going to throw out there that despite their attempts to make everything “fair” and “balanced” by disabling supernaturals’ powers, vampires can still be pretty broken on Batuu:
- “Freshen Up” fills their thirst, quicker than they could even do it by hunting sims
- They don’t need to eat from the very unsatisfying food stands
- They keep their PASSIVE powers only - so you can take Odorless, Beyond the Herd and Immortal pleasures to mean you only need to focus on thirst. Vampire energy doesn’t seem to drain at all on Batuu, because it’s considered cloudy all the time so they don’t burn, and they aren’t using powers
- Child of the Moon also seems to work to cut motive decay and increase skill gain at night
- Unsure if Vampiric Strength works, my sim still lost plenty of fights
If anyone can think of any other passive benefits that might help on Batuu, let me know.
I'm glad all the guide Sims from previous packs had their comeback, at least someone won something here.😁
This sould of been a "Medievals" type of sims game
6 years of Sims 4, and the only thing they put out that it's not broken is this useless addition...
adding a color picker skin tone = EA/Maxis answer "it's too hard" (which is just 1 variable to store the color. some 20 lines of code for the color picker and like 3 extra lines for the shader...)
filtering out ALL the features not of this pack, making sure there are no bugs because "dogs in outer space are unacceptable!"
and that it's actually a lot harder and took a lot more effort.
yeah they don't care about their players at all
It's not their priority by any means as it's not gonna make profit. Working on a pack sponsored by Disney on the other hand will sure make profit so there goes the priority.
There's a new mod review on pixelade channel which made me very upset because that's what people wanted since a long time and this mod is done by 1 person while EA feeds us with "we can't add ice-cream to the fridge, it's impossible".
i feel sorry for the poor dev who had to implement it. If it were me, i would have been swearing the whole time.
The thing I like most about the "Star Wars" game pack is it drove me back to Sims 3 and am having a blast. Thanks devs!

This pack is so restrictive. Didn't they say make your own story?
School me Carl I’m ready!
The one thing they could have done is disable vampires dying in sunlight for batuu so you know they don’t wreck everything I wanted to have a cool vampire resistance member but was attracted to the dark side via their possession of roofed buildings
It's crazy how this is a gamepack..
Thanks for the vid 👍
One of the points the Sims Team used to defend this pack was that it would integrate into other parts of the game... But a lot of Batuu features are locked out in other worlds, and a lot of features from other worlds are locked out in Batuu. That's a step beyond the evasive responses to their lackluster releases... THEY FLAT OUT LIED.
Your commentary reminds me of Andy Rooney - it's a very subtle blend of biting wit and unassuming observation. Keep up the good work!
Funny thing.... because I have a weird sense of humor and like to test things not too unlike you, I made an alien character for playing in Batuu and, for the hell of it, I used cheats to take Kylo Ren back to "Sims World."
But....
There's an Easter Bunny in the TS4?
if this was free pack, it would still be expensive.
The remote controlled Droid car though. 🤣 As for spellcaster sims, Zero has already made a mod to let us inferniate and zigzag away on Batuu if we want too! Its a shame we needed a mod to do that.
Edit: I think the mod is for all supernaturals.
Wait wait. You're telling me they added no force powers into the game but locked magic? WTF
