Some editions before this one, this same guy sang heart shaped box, not even a chair turned for him. The fact that he came back, didn’t change his style just because the other audition didn’t went well, he just kept true and real to himself, mad respect

This is a Leadbelly song. Kurt just did it so well some people don't realize that.
Nope supposedly it was written/sang by a guy named Dock Walsh. The songs true writer is completely unknown though, so can't be sure.
@@GingerBeardMan45 another guy also did this song in the 40s or 50s, but it's most commonly known as a Leadbelly song. Or at least his version is the most commonly known. Plus it would make more sense being that Leadbelly was a thoroughbred murderer lol.

This song was most famously performed by Nirvana, Kurt loved it because it was a Leadbelly song and he loved Leadbelly, as do i.
BUT, this song actually originates from two different songs called “In the Pines” and “The Longest Train”. Both of which have unknown origin stories, but date back all the way to the 1860s or 1870s
Soooo technically Leadbelly made a song from two songs, but no one knows who wrote the two songs. Regardless, it’s a timeless masterpiece.
