How to add realism to Addictive Drums 2 without external interference

- Many #producers agree that the magic way to get a professional #drums sound is by using parallel processing. It can enhance the ambience with techniques that used as inserts could be destructive for the energy of this instrument.
If we go to the EDIT window of #AD2 we will see a dedicated BUS channel for this. Click on its name and you will see how a slider will appear above the other channels that will allow you to send them to the BUS. SOLO the BUS channel and send 100% of the kick and snare tracks (in this kit the snare is also in FLEXI 3). Generally the cymbals sound annoying in this channel so don't send the hi hat and very little of the Overs and the Room. The toms can also be included almost in the same % as the snare.
Once you have a mix in BUS activate COMP & DIST and compress a lot of the signal, we prefer to use a fast REL time to increase the punch and enhance the ambience. Additionally you can activate the distortion and add a little. We like to add a little smile EQ and a bit of TAPE. Then if necessary use CUT to clean the low end.
Finally, turn down the BUS volume completely, turn off the SOLO and mix the super squashed signal with the drums mix and compare. Make the final adjustments in context. The exact percentage in which this track can be mixed with the drums depends on the style of the song, in rock and metal it is more beneficial even when the distortion is heard, in cleaner styles a lower percentage improves the ambience without creating distortion. Then save the whole thing as a preset.

That send was maybe one of the biggest discovers mixing metal 10 years ago.... including mixing instruments at very low volume.
great stuff as always. i've always used the separate outputs to set up my own parallel chains, but this is quicker and easier and the built-in effects sound pretty great. the "bottom" knob on the tape module is magical!
The built-in effects af AD2 are pretty good and you can save everything as presets and just change the levels when needed. Thanks a lot!
This is great, thanks for the advice
Thanks to you, I really like AD2 and this is all I need to do most of the time.
Great idea, thanks
Thanks to you!!
Superb, love This tips never thought you could add distortion to a drum anyway But now hearing at the example i Did recognize that in some records i've heard might be This same tecniques thanks for the video God bless
Thanks to you! Distortion goes well with drums because it helps taming the transients without killing the punch, it also increases the vibe of the room and usually pushes the instrument to a nice place in the mix.
Like y sub
Gracias compadre!
thanks!!
Thanks to you Juan!
Very good. Usually do this outside the vst. As ADD 2 has it within it's worth a try.
AD2 processors are are as good any other tool, since I learned that sound is mostly in what you do I've been saving a lot of time and CPU doing this. 👍
LOL ur smash bus looks like the way I set up the insert effects in Addictive Drums i love making lofi sounding punchy drums with those tools
Yep, just a parallel aux where to throw all the dirt we have in 😂
Do you prefer doing this in AD2 or entirely separately in Logic's separated channels bussed individually into a Logic bus ?
Thank you
Depends on the occasion, I go with the fastest and easiest way unless I hit a wall 👍👍
Hola Andrei. No se si escribirte en español o ingles (I guess you speak both).
Which library sounds most real these days? I love Mixosaurus but it's not designed for extreme rock/metal drumming
Toontrack, Addictive, BFD, SSD, Kontakt all sound good. You just can't wait them to work right out of the preset in your mix, you have to tweak them a bit and adapt them to your song, make them yours
Look forward to your next videos... Superior Drummer 3 would be great...
Can't afford that! 🤣
@@AmagrasMUSIC 🤭 Saving the money would be a great idea...
Never heard of such thing, how does it work?
@@AmagrasMUSIC I mean... in terms of price.
I was messing with you, I'm a another-one-in-a-million music producer with a million dollar family to provide for, buying expensive plugins is not my priority
No entiendo
@@AmagrasMUSIC Addictive Keys!!!
