Can you Quilt with the Bernette B70 Decco embroidery Only machine, if so,why do Bernina insist that you can't sew or Quilt on this machine & that you have to fork out Twice and have to buy 2 separate machines, not everyone can afford a fancy £4000 machine that does it all! Thank you for showing us your Quilting on a Embroidery Only machine
I love this idea... how did you back and bind the quilt before quilting it? I am working on a twin sized quilt for my daughter and am considering trying to quilt it with my embroidery machine.
Hannah Diamond I would not bind it before I quilted it. I would start in the center and work outward with the quilting designs, and bind it afterward. What I would like to know is if there is a way to eliminate all the knots that you will get from the emb. machine, front and back.
I personally would wait to do the binding after all the quilting is done, just in case there are some wrinkles to work to the outer edge -- as long as you quilted from the center out, you should be able to eliminate most of the unpleasant crinkles/wrinkles in the top & back.
I'd like some advice. I need a quinting sewing machine. I am poor man, it is not possible to buy expensive quilting sewing machine. Name the best quilting sewing machine at the lowest price, I don't need any design of sewing machine, I don't need many functions I'll only use quilting pressure feet. I will design the round on a designer fabric and I will sew the simple round design with my hands
I have a 12 needle machine and I cannot bring up the bobbin thread before stitching the quilting design. You did not show the back; are there knots all over the back? This is what I want to avoid. What if I quilted on the top and batting, and then added the back and just stitched in the ditch? Do you think that would work? Then the knots and quilting would not show on the back, only the stitch in the ditch seams.
The way I do it is to turn off ties in the machine, then with Embird Editor I remove ties in the design if any and back add back 6-7 stitches that are spaced about .5mm -.7mm apart on the starting and ending points. These micro stitches will hold without additional knots although some quilters also use them and bury them. Just snip the tails flush if not knotting and burying them. I have seen long-armers do it both ways. If you don't pull up the bobbin thread you may get a tangle you will need to pick out
Larry thank you for this information. I have tried turning off the ties. My software is Stitch and Sew, and I don't know how to add back stitches, but I will call tech support and ask. This is a very good idea and this really may work for me if I can figure out how to do it! Thanks so much for sharing this. I am making a quilt now, and I am quilting on the top and batting, so now I will have to add the backing and stitch in the ditch. This gives me an extra step that I would like to avoid. I will spend some time tomorrow experimenting with this. Is the Embird Editor a free software?
Embird Editor currently is $199 but I use it a lot as I also make our labels with it, I bought their script alphabet for $15 which is almost infinitely adjustable and only requires trimming between words or at end of lines. The ties I make are identical to the ties our long-armer does with a Gammel machine. The in-place ties an embroidery machine makes are really ugly on a quilt back, the triangle ties or back and forth ties may only be a bit less ugly. I don't allow the machine to do any trims either. I just finished a small quilt made from 5" blocks and a 2" border using Emlibrary Sashiko single run designs as modified by me, I can't see stitches without magnifiers. I am starting a little larger quilt using a Gammel continuous quilting design converted into my exp format and microstitch ties added. Stitch and Sew may be able to insert extra stitches to make close stitches ties but you will also need to remove any trianle or back and forth stitches the design may have.
Thank you, Larry. Much appreciated. The problem with stitch and sew seems to be that you cannot edit a design that was not digitized with it. I buy my quilting designs, and then I am unable to edit them.
Thank you. I will check it out today. The software I have allows me to add and remove stitches, but only from ones I digitize in the software, not the ones I buy. Are you digitizing your own designs?
Hi Judy, the Bernina in the video is one of their more expensive models, though exact price varies depending on seasonal sales. There are Bernina machines which aren't as expensive that can easily accomplish the same results. www.bernina.com/en-US/Products-US/BERNINA-products/Sewing-Quilting-and-Embroidery
One thing I never knew I could do this and that is to use the Sewing table with the Embroidery hoop. Excellent idea! Thank you for that idea.

Are you using embroidery thread? Or are you using sewing thread? I ask because on my machine i have 2 bobbin cases for different thread type. Ty

OK. BUT WHAT'S THREADS DO YOU USE IN THE BOBBIN ?
I always use good/excellent thread. Never buy cheap threads. They cause lint and fuzz bunnies.
I usually use the same thread in the top & bobbin (wind my own). If your machine likes different weights, just match the color as close as you can.
I just heard B750. Do they still make B 880?
yes
Wanted to see the back. No stabilizer needed???!!
No stabilizer needed, just a top, back and batting to make quilt sandwich.
Is this the model B 880?
Hi Vickie, This is a B750QE. Yes they still make the B880. B880 is the Top of the line Bernina. What a machine. I have both the B750QE and the B830.
This sewing machine costs about $7,800.00, correct?

I was able to buy my B750QE without the Embroidery Unit and it was the demo for $2,000. A year later I purchased the Embroidery Unit for $400.
