    Substrate, or bedding material, should be easy to clean and non-toxic to lizards in case they accidentally eat it. Newspaper, butcher paper, or other recycled paper products (such as compressed recycled paper pellets) are preferred because they are easy to replace and are non-toxic.

    What is MDB?

    • @Kaylie_Qibs
      @Kaylie_Qibs Год назад

      Metabolic bone disease it’s when your dragon isn’t absorbing d3 or calcium that’s why it’s good to dust their bugs with calcium d3 powder if they don’t have d3 or calcium their bones with get really weak and they eventually won’t be able to use their legs unfortunately since she’s already showing signs of mbd she won’t be able to reverse is it if he gives her the d3 and calcium and gives her proper lighting he won’t be able to reverse the damage but it will definitely prevent it from getting worse

It is an unfortunate circumstance but it’s great you’re taking precautions against it now! I’m sure she has a bright future ahead of her.

    Tiles are the worst they can deform their claws, Use Alfalfa pellets or 50% sand very finethen 30% organic topsoil, 20% Excavator Clay. I have a frilled dragon, tokay, green eyed forest gecko, chahoua gecko, 2 gargoyle gecko, and a leachie gecko. What are your temps, uvb percentage the Ferguson zone would be enough. How far from the uvb is the dragon? RH should be 30-40% but this may slightly change on where in Australia its from do you know the type of dragon you have and where it's actually from? There are 8 species of bearded dragons 9 if you count the one thats not a true. Some live in woodland, savannah, and desert areas. The humidity will vary between these species slightly . It has MBD. That's the reason behind the weird behaviour. Get an arcadia deep heat projector, a dimming thermostat and put that slate and probe in your hot spot set it to 38c-42c also what are your night temps ? Dont go under 21c use 22-24c as your guide my frilled is 40c hot spot 34c in cool end with a night temp of 28c in a 6ftx3ftx6ft enclosure. It's a shame I found you at video 44 I could of stopped that the first time. Do you have a video of the full enclosure? If you get a microclimate digital dimming stat, you could use your dhp for night heat too set on a day and night cycle. If I had b dragon I'd probably use 25-26c at night tbh but I tend to get bigger than I need enclosures so I'd have an adult in a 4-5ft wide, 3ft deep and 3ft high they like to climb trees and are better than most people think at it. You don't have to go to 5ft wide thats just my preference . I keep an adult keachie in a 56"x18"x36 terrarium made of metal and glass all 7 are fully bio active with plants and empty just for the stands and enclosure I probably spent £3000-£4000. Then I use microclimate connected 2,3 and evo Pro. All my geckos have their own uvb and jungle dawn led lights then their own dhp a mistking ultimate and then plant drippers. my frilled uses a 250 watt heat bulb and ceramic on my connected 3 mmy basking is only in the day but my ceramic is set to 38c day and 28c at night. he too has the same arcadia pro t5 but a higher wattage and strength he has a hygrostat and humidifier as well as his own mistking too.

      A couple months back he posted a video of this lovely lizard having a pretty serious seizure. He pinned a comment from a vet that explained by introducing more calcium into their diet as well as changing the type of bulb he was using it would aid to minimize the frequency and severity of its seizures.

I’m glad he’s in better care now. If you get another juvenile tho please do not handle it everyday that can spread a lot of germs that your bearded dragon does not have immunity to.

    Yes, this is true. But every source clearly states that ingesting loose substrates is a major concern for bearded dragons. It has nothing to do with the lizards health, and everything to do with PREVENTING your beardie from ingesting it's environment and causing more issues. They should have AREAS in their habitat loose enough for digging. True, microclimates and dawn/dusk do happen, but that makes up a *fraction* of the time a beardie spends on the ground during the day. When you're caring for a beardie in a loose substrate environment, they risk eating it EVERY TIME. Do not wait for your beardie to get sick to remove them from loose substrate.
    A five minute Google search proves what myself and many others are trying to say to you, and I'm respectfully very confused by your words on "replicating the wild," where the loosest soil a beardie would see in the wild, is subtropical forest floor, which is still a very pebbley, sandy, clay mixed environment. Stop telling your viewers that they're uneducated with dated information when they're trying to help you improve your pets quality of life.

    My first beardie died at 9 months old from eating loose substrate. I didn’t know there was an age limit. But I was young and it scared me, I’m sorry but, I can 100% guarantee I will never use loose substrate I’m not saying it’s bad you do, I agree it’s good but I also think it’s ok not too. Id live in constant fear if I did use it again I’m sorry, and you probably think I shouldn’t even have bearded dragons then, I disagree but I can’t change your mind so oh well
    Edit: I really really want to clarify that I do not think it’s bad when people use it! I agree it’s good for them to live as naturally as possible!

    Awsome dude. I was going to say more dubias. Feed the dubia alcium also and good veggies and oats.
    Feed dragon more greens,carrots, bananas, apples and more greens. As they get older the eat more veggies. Take her outside on full sunny days. This helps incredibly compared to depending on a man made light. Good choice on substrate. Try excavator clay, it helps with getting solid after watering and they will dig their own homes when ready. Praying for her!!

  • @Kraziiblondie
    @Kraziiblondie Год назад +1

    Ohhhh so good that you figured it out and the substrate we use is tile because exotic vets are barely around our area and it’s so expensive and they might not make it out of the anesthesia!!!!!!! So when the females start digging it’s because there about to lay a clutch of eggs they don’t need males to lay eggs but they don’t keep them warm or even take care of there eggs !!!!! They do need uva and uvb lights to make sure they have a proper life cycle!!!!! The sun is so beneficial for there skin!!!!! That’s why they need a cool side and a hot side in there tanks they don’t absorb water through there skin they actually need to drink water also but they can’t see it that good so a little at a time is good they fill there gular under there chin then open there mouths to get the water down and if you disturb them they can choke they have a breathing line under there tongues as well;) I have learned so much about them and cleaning them with dawn dish soap after they poop will keep them clean and bacteria free don’t get water in there eyes it’s not good for them I guess they also can’t be on there backs or sides because they have no diaphragms so they slowly suffocate to death ☠️ just wanted to enlighten you on some other details about breaded dragons ;) sometimes the calcium you give them has to much other stuff so the best to use is reptile calcium without potassium;)

I have some tiles and substrate for them to dig, and when my girl was laying eggs. The beardies who get impacted from sand, the owners need to use something called a dish and feed them when doing so.

    • @YochevedDesigns

      Calcium sand is horrible because if they are lacking calcium they will try to eat it and get impacted. Much better to use larger grain sand, and small pebbles on the surface.

    She’s looking SOOOOOO much better! MBD is abysmally common with pet beardies and other reptiles that rely on actual sunlight to metabolize calcium. The local reptile vet and specialists recommended calcium sand as a substrate-some people say that it can lead to calcium toxicity but for reptiles so dependent on good UVB exposure it’s nearly impossible to happen. A couple inches of calcium sand is an amazing option that allows for plenty of digging/burrowing behavior plus is conducive to those microclimates that you mentioned as surface sand might be dry and warm to the touch but just underneath is cool with some comfortable humidity if you don’t let it dry out too much. It’s also much safer than regular silica sand to use. I miss my prickly drama queen.
