I'm surprised no one has mentioned qualifications, RYA comp crew for the crew,, RYA Yachtmaster ocean as a bare minimum for the skipper, day skipper, coastal skipper for permanent crew, Diesel engine, VHF, SSB, Ships captain's medical cert, power boat, dingy course. If You are going to invest your life into the hardware you better make sure the software knows what is doing. In the middle of the night and something goes bang, scream, flap or slosh, you better have some skills.
I thought they did talk about building experience and self development of yourself and crew before undertaking anything like this? or maybe I'm wrong and misunderstood what was being discussed.
