After all of these videos over the internet, i think the UK has a bike theft pandemic...
Balcan Rider more needs to be done to stop them being taken in the first place. ..that said if the bastards are determined enough no amount of security will stop them. ..and better security leads to more bike jacking. ..If more people dealt with the problem direct (ie vigilantes ) that would be a good start...I'm sure that there are plenty of people who have had bikes taken who would get involved
Balcan Rider problem is that bike manufacturers don't really care, they could spend money in r & d for security but they won't cos they know that when a bike gets stolen insurance pays and either way they get paid, it's such a shitty mentality cos if this continues no one will be able to afford rising insurance and they wont sell any bikes

Remembers me of what a good friend of mine happened. A good friend of mine, living in Switzerland, was sitting on a public chair, waiting for the next bus to the way home and got suddenly his notebook stolen where he sat.
We used to talk every day over Skype at exactly 06:00 pm, since I'm living in Germany. At 10:00 pm someone was ringing me on Skype. A different voice started to talk to me in Switzer-german and I was a little bit confused at first. I thought he was joking to me and trying to pitch his voice a little bit up. After a very short time, I suddenly recognized that something was wrong. Seconds after, I got a SMS message from him with: "Hey, my notebook is gone"
At this point, I was starting to investigate who they are (they were two guys) and where they live and started to look what they favour. As one of them said they like "weed" I was hopping on the train and told them a story you won't believe (even I didn't believed what I said, since I've never touched any drugs - lol). However, they took the bite and we came to a point where we should meet (remember I am from Germany and around 500 km away from Zurich) and informed my mate instantly.
After I told him the location, he said, he know where that is and he knows that there's a - excuse my explanation - home for difficult childrens (thieves, drugdealers, psychic retarded). He grabbed his rifle (yeah, it's legal in Switzerland), drove to the meeting point and met those guys. He got his notebook back.
At 11:30 pm someone logged in on Skype, ringed me and it was my friend telling me how thankful he was.
Funny thing: My musicprogram was running and recorded the whole conversation in German - lol.

I used to steal food from Walmart when i was homeless. I used to steal from my family when i was an addict. I am clean, and housed now. For many years, almost a decade. I’m not proud at all. ChiChi My dads bike got stolen at 4 AM 20th of Juli. Easy catch, they just needed to open the camera footage and identify him by his plate on the car. 1 week later they sent an email stating: we stop the research because of lack of clues, while they didnt even open the footage. Now, of you are saying that the police is oh so wonderful, you're wrong. He lost nearly 9-10K (it was a hd)

My classic Honda VF500F2F got stolen from outside my house.
Disc lock, steering lock, me less than 30 feet away fast asleep.
They lifted the front wheel, got it far enough away so they could make a noise, then broke the disc lock, booted the handlebars to break the steering lock, cut the loom and hot wired it, and ragged it round a field until they blew the main fuse when they dumped it in a bush.
Got it back within a couple of days and still have it now but I wouldn't leave that or or my BSA A65 clubman anywhere they could be seen in future.

Bike was stolen on Friday morning. Just found it today stashed in soom woods about a mile from home. They tried to hot wire it but clearly didn't figure it out because the battery only had 1v left when we got to it.
Don't give up hope too quick guys, recovery rates are low but they're not zero!
