  • Vermont’s storied Marlboro Music Festival is a mecca for the finest young musicians in the world, and this year, its touring arm, Musicians from Marlboro, celebrates its 50th anniversary.
Join us for a 50th birthday celebration featuring Jonathan Biss and Ieva Jokubaviciute, piano; Anthony McGill, clarinet; Marcy Rosen, cello; Robin Scott, violin; and Sarah Shafer, soprano, performing two Marlboro signature pieces: Schubert’s Shepherd on the Rock and Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio in D minor. Four of the artists will be heard on this season's tours and all have been frequent MFM participants. Hosted by WQXR’s Jeff Spurgeon.

Well played and sung! I just looked this up as I saw I sang it in 1986 in my old diary. I still remember it now. You never lose music once it is within you.

One of the most beautiful & demanding works for piano , voice & clarinet. Thinking of Professor Valentine Basnayake & Ajit Abeysekera

This is actually one of the best performances of this I've heard. That soprano has a BIG VOICE! Getting into dramatic soprano territory I would say and I found her performance quite thrilling. I want to hear her Tosca in 10 years! All the young musicians here were exemplary, though I would gently suggest that the clarinettist and the pianist might want to decide on a tempo for the opening, rather than each having their own, separate one.

Tosca? No. Susanna, Pamina, Sophie, Giulietta, Rosina -- but never Tosca.

@@j.markbaker2172 Voices do change over time -- she definitely has power, no reason she couldn't grow into singing Tosca in her late thirties or even forties (guessing she's around 30?) Not disagreeing with you about now, though! She has a gorgeous version of "Casta Diva" out there -- she'll make a glorious Norma one of these fine years, too.

Anthony Mcgill is no young buck. He went to Curtis, he's a soloist, and has been co-principal clarinetist with the metropolitan opera, and is currently the principal clarinet at the New York Philharmonic. Those are only a very small few of his accomplishments.

Beautiful voice but her mood needed to change more in the first and second parts to make it more interesting! The third was delivered the best in understanding and presentation.

Well, this shows why we should never use Equal Temperament on piano. The vocalist adjusts quiet well and with great character; but the clarinet guy is all over the place with pitch! Ouch!!

The clarinetist holds the position of first clarinet in the Metropolitan Opera. I dare you to do better 😉

@phillipshearman5597, The clarinetist is one of the few best in the world,. You will not find a performance that’s significantly better by anyone.

@phillipshearman5597, What’s the alternative to equal temperament for the piano? That’s what is always used. Pieces change keys.
