My great Aunt and Uncle celebrated their golden 50th wedding anniversary in 1955 and remember seeing their gold '55 Belair in front of the church where the celebration was happening. I thought it was really neat at the age of 9 but never appreciated the significance of it until many years later. Great to see this and hope you will restore it back to its original condition...great memories.
I have a set of doors for a factory gold 4 door 55 and dad just couldn’t figure out why they were gold. He kept saying they never made gold 55s. That’s awesome.
$250 for a solid buildable '55, even if it is a four door and even if it was not an anniverary is still pretty darn good these days, the prices of classic junk has gone insane.
I am very happy to see that a guy like you could get this car for a good price. How I wish we had junkyards like this on where I live! It is stunning to see how rustfree those cars are in the Southern States. I bought one car out of Arizona. Everything needed help but the body was nearly rustfree. We are both hopeless. We need another project as much as a nail in the head. But we cannot help it: We love the good old GM cars so much. And we know that there were never better cars built!
nice story, you are a very honest man. thanks for your video. I have also a 55 fordoor with all the SS trim around the side windows. greatings from Brussels Europe
back in the day, i would not have looked twice at a 4door, but now kinda digging the '55-'60 4doors. and a gold anniversary is the icing on top. the '58 buick 4door hardtop in the background is cool too
Congratulations on the find. It doesn't look like much now, but it can certainly be brought back to glory with your skills. It will be great fun to see you revive this forgotten classic. All the best to you, Dan.
I watched you build the 63 from the beginning and the 55 is my second favorite car. Looking forward to watching you build it to. Thanks for the videos Iv learned a lot.
WOW! Ol John down in final assembly was telling me about this, I cant believe the price you got this relic for! I will definitely be subscribing to the channel, i love seeing the Vette and impala every morning!
Dan I think it's about time that you built yourself a trailer. Sure would come in handy right now wouldn't it ? And you should have bought yourself another parts car while you were there to get trim parts & Glass for the anniversary golden bullet .
Hopefully you either already have a parts car or 2 or hopefully you were able to pick up a parts car or 2 at the auction to help you gather the parts that you will be needing for restoring it.
Awesome buy , four history is just as important as the two door. It’s too bad people are hung up on just having a two door , I’ve owned and seen many great two door builds of American automobiles .
That’s an incredible find! I hope to see more videos of this car as you progress! Focus on this one first and foremost! This will bring lots of views to your channel! 🇺🇸
since people are giving away stuff at that place, i hope he got all the missing chrome stuff and the fenders too. because that will cost him more than the car.
I'll say that it was really decent of you to offer the car back to the gentleman that sold it.... you have the parts and painting skills to make it right again.... I wish I could do body work as well as you can...
I'm glad to see she will be put back together, 55 is my dream car I don't care if she is a 2 door 4 door or wagon I love them all equally and nI will find me a project one day ,I want to make an original looking car with all the chrome, emblems and beauty they were born with not mint or restored just together and drivable to enjoy driving as much as look at . I'm biased but the 55 is 25 times better looking to me than a 57
I of course have seen the 55 to door hardtop Belair, an old videos and films for the 50000,000th General Motors car. I did not know about the 5000 or so four-door sedans and 55. Thank you for educating me.
I'm excited to watch this build, just like the past 3 or 4... (hek whose counting,) I screen shot a couple of angles just for my personal before pics, gonna be fun to watch. Go all original dan - the man. (HOPE TO SEE YOU IN AUSTIN AT THE ROUNDUP, APRIL ).
Nice to know there's still a place where you can find good men like Dan and his friends, not to mention the man retiring. Hey Dan, what make and model Cadillac was that parked next to your truck???
"eClassic Autos" on RUclips has the one-off gold plated 55, that's a real feast for the eyes, and it's in show room condition. (and I thought the 55 gold edition was to celebrate me being born) 😉
Some things are Destiny..... You have enough budget to do it right 🙂👍 My 55 4 door is glacier blue 210 😋❤️ 6 cyl rear axle has a limited slip ???? The posi unit cost more than your car 😂✌️🤠 Good Luck....
Its the 4 door sedans with 6cyls 3 on the tree cars that made automotive history not the 2 door hard tops, and most 2 doors had a 6cyl anyways. Congratulations on you new toy! :-D
What became of this 55 Dan. Can I get a update on this and your projects? Let me know of your life progress. I am a big fan, you inspire me more than you will ever know!
About 10 years ago you put out a video on the 2 car 55 Chevy package deal out at your folks place. Are those still around? An update on the Dan hoard is overdue.
Interesting video. I have heard of these rare 55 Chevys but never seen a video of one. Was it a pretty highly optioned car? My dad's 55 hardtop was a factory red and beige car. My 56 BelAir 2 door hardtop was a factory onyx black car. Neither car is very highly optioned though.
Very cool! was that an old Hudson i saw? I love 4Drs. So underrated. I believe you how nobody else knew what it was or maybe some did but didn't want to spend YEARS Researching photos, the history, pinpointing all the factory correct items on it to make it look new, etc. Will you put an Inline Six back in it? if you restore this and put it on youtube count me in.
Even when the cars were painted two-tone from the factory like a 55 4 door belair that we used to have before we sold it. Always thought it was strange that there was no divider between the White and the other color past the point of the trim. On the side they just lined it up like that. So you just had observable break between the White and the other color. Probably just somebody on your car one make it look a little fancier than what it actually was and their mind when they bought it back in the day a model upgrade if you will.
I’m not a brand specific guy and will want or admire a Ford, Dodge, or Studebaker just as much as I will a Chevy. No matter the brand where I DO draw the line though is with station wagons and 4 doors. Call me CRAZY but I actually PREFER a station wagon or a 4 door over a 2 door, unless it’s a rag top, and then the 4 door or station wagon will come in second. With me a rag top will always be my first choice.
Why would anybody paint over such a rare car, and if it is that rare, why wouldn't people along the line recognize that and keep it in good shape. Hard to understand why it's in the shape it is. Hope it comes back perfect.
I have one as well. Mine is a Golden Anniversary with the 265 V-8, PS, PB, Heater, and Radio. Having some mechanical issues, but my restoration is ongoing. So, to answer your question, folks had some dealers paint over them because they simply did not like the gold paint. Again, they think 5000 were produced, 5 known to be in existence not including mine which would be 6, now 7 with this one. Might be one or two running around in Cuba who know?🤷♂️ But these are very rare 4 door Bel Air. We've had our now 10 years. So glad I found one in much better shape!!
Couldn't have gone to a better guy! Take care of it Dan and share those restro videos with us!!! Check out Classic Ride Society video Pt 1 Conroe Texas Swap Meet at 15.00 mins.
At $250 unless you bought it 40 years ago, that is barely the price of what it would bring at the crusher. Good job on saving it. I've got 55 four-door with a little over thirty thousand original miles. Been in the family since the late 1960s. And the reason why is we pulled engine out to put in a pickup. Well actually that was done a relative before me. Any for if it matters category or if you're interested I've got a 1956 four-door base model with a Bel Air dash because in order to get air conditioning it had to have a Bel Air dash. In-dash not under dash. Factory-installed not dealership installed. Surface rust from one end to the other end and it's so well-dressed it looks like it's brown paint. But I'm glad that you saved this one that you save. Mine I drove 8 hours to get and paid four X prize almost 10 years ago. I like try 5.
Dan please paint the 59 please it runs well and it really needs to look good too. The Corvette turned out well and now it's time for this one to get a good paint job by you I mean come on that's what you do paint the car dude paint the car
Great find. Do everything 100% correct to the highest standards. It deserves the best!

Great find, Dan! Best of luck with it! I’m glad you’re gonna keep it in the spirit of the original car, no big-block V8’s or whatever….
I have a set of doors for a factory gold 4 door 55 and dad just couldn’t figure out why they were gold. He kept saying they never made gold 55s. That’s awesome.

"Classic Junk" (CJ)...Now THAT'S rich!
Cant wait to see the progress on it. Hope to see it running and driving before too long.
Awesome! It pays to do the research especially since so few still do research like you did. You do the research you got a great deal on the car.
Well done Dan, will come back nice and you will look great driving it 👍😎

Wonderful that this old gem was discovered and won by you at the auction! Amazing what you accomplish when working on your cars!
back in the day, i would not have looked twice at a 4door, but now kinda digging the '55-'60 4doors. and a gold anniversary is the icing on top. the '58 buick 4door hardtop in the background is cool too
That's a great story and I'm impressed. Knowing you, you'll make it look and run wonderful. Best of luck with it.
Nice! Looking forward to seeing the series. One request - please make longer videos!
I`m glad you got it. I`ve seen what you can do and this is excactly what this car needs.
Congratulations on the find. It doesn't look like much now, but it can certainly be brought back to glory with your skills. It will be great fun to see you revive this forgotten classic. All the best to you, Dan.
Not that you need another project car, but that smile says everything!

Years ago, I owned the same (1955 Gold Edition sedan) that was Fully Restored. Sold to a collector in Ohio. the car was perfect in every way.
