It is indeed, but what strikes me is how racism and traditional family hierarchy/values are still commonplace and generally accepted. I moved to the UK when I a kid and have spent the vast majority of my life in the UK, and going back to see my family every so often I can see how backwards-thinking most of the population is. Most of it is due to the raging Catholicism that still persists but is challenged more and more by the younger generations, but racism is still around simply due to the fact that racial and cultural diversity never really occurred. While the UK was involved in trades between Africa and US, Poland was torn between its surrounding countries. A lot of the culture is shared between Germany, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic and Slovakia (to the point where knowing Polish, 80% of the spoken language is phonetically interchangeable with Russian and Slovakian and I can have a fairly normal conversation without knowing anything about the other two languages), and tourism isn't large, so exposure to cultures outside of eastern Europe is very limited. Blackface and historical representations of dark-skinned people are still commonplace and often used in comedy. Homosexuality is still frowned upon (mostly in the older generation), and anything between heterosexuality and homosexuality is considered as 'being lost'.

I was raised in Poland, and I literally learnt fluent english by watching foreign english speaking youtubers.. Yeah, I learned it before i even had english in school so later i had really good grades :)
English is pretty easy other than the fact we have so homophones and words that mean the same thing but can’t be used interchangeably in some contexts.
Being the first person to discover that deep down, Poles are actually hilarious, Piotrek won the Nobel prize for Comedy and became the richest man in Poland.
As a people we are more hilarious to others in terms of our actions than by what we say. And that of course is because when speaking English we can never quite get our joke across as we can in Polish lol.
Omg I cannot get over his accent! I've never heard one like it... It's a mix of UK/USA/Australian! I can hear all three in one sentence! I was born in the UK in the late 80's but was raised Polish and actually spoke Polish before I learnt English. Managed to drop the accent but am still "polishing" my Polish (pardon the pun) as I was educated in English and had no need to learn technical/scientific terms, etc in Polish. It's such a complicated language grammar-wise but I love it! For me, it's delightful to see other people with a similar situation to mine maturing, as the youngest generation who came over when Poland joined the EU or were born here shortly afterwards are only just becoming adults. There were other 'Polish' kids in my community but they didn't really care about the language or the culture. So glad I found this video 😃

My Dad is Polish and he just says Cola, and that’s how all his friends pronounce it when they visit and don’t drink alcohol. I think the movie translations are funny, and it’s very true. They do that in Hungary too.
When it comes to Die Hard, it must be said that not only the Polish translation of the title is "not accurate". French one was "Piège de cristal" ("Crystal trap", quite close to Polish "Szklana pułapka" - "Glass trap"), in Czech it's "Smrtonosná past" (Lethal trap), in Chinese "終極警探" (Ultimate detective). On the other hand German translation is quite close - "Stirb langsam" (Die slowly) and I actually like the Russian one - "Крепкий орешек" (Hard nut, which is an idiom, existing actually also in English - a hard nut to crack ).
Sounds like the Russians got the closest. The German one isn't actually close which bugged me for as long as I can remember. The original title is not about someone "dying hard" but rather a die hard guy, as in tough.
English translations aren't exactly perfect either. Eg. "Casa de papel" - easily translatable (and apt) "House of Paper" became a rather bland "Money Heist". And then again, it's not universally bad in Poland. What he doesn't mention is that this "Hangover in Vegas" is actually "Kac Vegas" ("kac" meaning hangover), so it's a neat wordplay - since it sort of rhymes with Las Vegas. And some titles are - thankfully - left untranslated. Like "Pulp Fiction" or, say, "Showgirls". Rightly so, in my opinion.

As a people we are more hilarious to others in terms of our actions than by what we say. And that of course is because when speaking English we can never quite get our joke across as we can in Polish lol.

Omg I cannot get over his accent! I've never heard one like it... It's a mix of UK/USA/Australian! I can hear all three in one sentence!
I was born in the UK in the late 80's but was raised Polish and actually spoke Polish before I learnt English. Managed to drop the accent but am still "polishing" my Polish (pardon the pun) as I was educated in English and had no need to learn technical/scientific terms, etc in Polish. It's such a complicated language grammar-wise but I love it!
For me, it's delightful to see other people with a similar situation to mine maturing, as the youngest generation who came over when Poland joined the EU or were born here shortly afterwards are only just becoming adults. There were other 'Polish' kids in my community but they didn't really care about the language or the culture.
So glad I found this video 😃

So I'm Lithuanian but think a lot of slavic/ pseudo-slavic people experiance the same thing. Dude when he imitated his dad I felt that so much

My Dad is Polish and he just says Cola, and that’s how all his friends pronounce it when they visit and don’t drink alcohol. I think the movie translations are funny, and it’s very true. They do that in Hungary too.
In Germany "Die hard" is translated as "die slowly". Not quite what is meant, but good enough ^^
When it comes to Die Hard, it must be said that not only the Polish translation of the title is "not accurate". French one was "Piège de cristal" ("Crystal trap", quite close to Polish "Szklana pułapka" - "Glass trap"), in Czech it's "Smrtonosná past" (Lethal trap), in Chinese "終極警探" (Ultimate detective).
On the other hand German translation is quite close - "Stirb langsam" (Die slowly) and I actually like the Russian one - "Крепкий орешек" (Hard nut, which is an idiom, existing actually also in English - a hard nut to crack
).
Sounds like the Russians got the closest. The German one isn't actually close which bugged me for as long as I can remember. The original title is not about someone "dying hard" but rather a die hard guy, as in tough.
English translations aren't exactly perfect either. Eg. "Casa de papel" - easily translatable (and apt) "House of Paper" became a rather bland "Money Heist".
And then again, it's not universally bad in Poland. What he doesn't mention is that this "Hangover in Vegas" is actually "Kac Vegas" ("kac" meaning hangover), so it's a neat wordplay - since it sort of rhymes with Las Vegas.
And some titles are - thankfully - left untranslated. Like "Pulp Fiction" or, say, "Showgirls". Rightly so, in my opinion.
