Have actually played a bunch of this with friends about a year ago. It's a solid game and a good time. Warning is that it is somewhat Pay to Win at a certain level. You can sorta counter this with smart play and the starting rifles you get as a free player are legitimately quite good- but sometimes you can't help but be carpet bombed to death or have to face a raid-boss level dollar-bought tank that seems to eat infinite explosives. Ultimately still recommended as it's a free game and still a good time!
I've had that same little black box thing for a long time as well. I have no idea why but if you CTRL+DEL then shut down FONV with task manager then change the game from either windowed to full screen or the other way around for some reason it fixes it temporarily fixes it. But the next time you open the game you'll get it again. So depending on how long it keeps the little black box mode going it can be faster just to put up with it. I know that's not much help but you know better than I do how fucked New Vegas is. At least it runs at all unlike FO3 which I haven't been able to turn on since Windows 10 came out.

I love the idea of using speedrun tech to do stuff in game other than beating the game fast. Alternate objectives with hoops to jump through seems like a great way to show off the tricks that are used in the speedrun, and maybe some tricks that got phased out as new stuff got discovered. I would love to see a video as a follow up to any of your older speedrun explained videos going through old tech and skips that are in current and old speedruns where you do it in this format.
Some of the small, unmentioned bits of this were so perfect. When Victor turned around with Kevin James' face on his screen I lost my shit E: oh man, and a Nick Drake Pink Moon reference. You're incredible
The "I hope you're all doing well..." part of each video is one of the best segments in any video series ever and have helped me to really focus on moving forward no matter how hard things get in life. I just recently got things back up to the "above avarage day" mark and things are kinda going my way again after cancer, depression and just a shit life in general, and i just want to thank you SO much for doing these speeches. You have a lifelong follower in me for that and i get excited every time i get a notification for a new upload. Keep up the amazing job, mate. you literally save people with these. I think the self-created speedruns you do are the most fun. It shows off several silly mods and lets you just goof around while showing that you're not just a narrator of other speedrunners but you can do it yourself. I think my favorite was the constant Knuckles loading screens since we didn't really see much of the interactions with the wild companions available through those mods.

23:45 speedrun to die from from fall damage once in every location where it's possibke in Metroid Prime 2. MP2 introduced locations where can fall off cliffs, etc. taking a little damage every time, the main goal of the speedrun is to fall enough times to die once at each of those locations.

The order your PC finds your monitors on boot might affect the weird small loading window when you start the game if they are different resolutions. If not exactly that it probably is something else to do with multiple monitors and the Gamebryo engine being the Gamebryo engine, or whatever they later called it at Bethesda. You can always tell it's that by the way the terrain looks. Even Rift couldn't hide it.
random thought for the black square is that if you go to the exe and in properties set it to override dpi scaling by program it might help if you play at a higher resolution than the game usually supports but idk if It'll do much. Usually its my first go to step when troubleshooting weird graphics issues on high res monitors tho. it could also maybe be mods or other software clogging the game engine on boot and having to be loaded first before the game can start, this usually happens as every mod needs to be initialized before most games can run
