  • I tested the Daniel Smith watercolor essentials set to see if these are, indeed, the best watercolors in the World.
    I also used these primary colors and saw just how many different colors I was able to mix.

I do not sell any of the art I make, I'm merely trying to help you improve and, when you're starting out, taking inspiration from other artists to train really is the best way to go.

    Hi guys! I splurged and got my very first Daniel Smith set... And now I'm sharing exactly what I think of them! Enjoy!

    I have been painting off and on for decades. When my job involved a lot of driving I could access Schminke easily, no longer. I must drive for an hour each way or order on line. But I can walk to a source for some Daniel Smith and I have explored them. I order online when what I want is unavailable locally and make the occasional special trip for the special stuff. Both are excellent in my opinion.

    I also recently replaced some colours I finished with Daniel Smith paints that, luckily, were on sale, and I just kept chanting to myself, "Please don't like them. Please don't like them." because they are so expensive. Sadly to did like them lol

      @@sandyowncrafts I started with Cobalt Turquoise, Yellow Ochre, Alizarin Crimson, Phthalo Blue (Green Shade) pans which are colours I use the most. They are so nice, they have motivated me to paint more to use up the paints I already have so I can replace them with Daniel Smith paints lol

    I bought the same set plus some neutral colors. Best purchase ever. One of the best transparent watercolors, nothing to envy to Schminke or Sennelier.

    What happens is that if I just grab my second best watercolor such as Da Vinci or Lukas, I still cannot see the difference compared to Daniel Smith or Michael Harding. The only difference is that DS has some colors that others don't.

    • @sandyowncrafts
      @sandyowncrafts  5 месяцев назад

      Well, you won't find big differences when you compare top quality brands. It's really a matter of taste, some people prefer vibrancy over transparency or granulation. It won't be a matter of quality...

    You should try Winsor & Newton,
    they have been around when I was growing up and painting, and they are the best.

      How do you mean? You mean when the paint dries on the palette? I've put them into pans and use them the same way I do others. I notice that these, along with Schminke, never dry completely, they're always a little bit sticky...

    Love your color chart. I saw your said they are tiny but they are professional grade watercolors. You have to remember when you put them in pan you can dry them out and keep reusing. I’ve had mine for at least a year and a half.

    Wow I love these colors and the transparency of them all. I'm a beginner and have been using a MeiLiang set and while very pretty, they're not as transparent. So I'll definitely be grabbing this set soon. I really love your warm and conversational style too. Keep up the great work!

    I have the cool/warm primaries in gouache (of course in addition to black and white) and honestly? I don't see why I'd need more.. I have a bigger set in watercolours (24 half pans) and I think I only use half of them XD I much prefer mixing paint myself anyway. But yeah these look gorgeous! Hope you have a lot of fun with them ♡♡♡♡
