Making Time for Photography - Pentax 67 and Portra 800

- Getting out of the house and making some photographs of the fall color and fog we had last Monday morning. It wasn’t the video I had planned on making, but I think it’s better than what would have been! The moral of the story is to make time for photos whenever you get a chance to. Hope you guys enjoy this one. All photos made with a Pentax 67, the 105mm f/2.4, and Portra 800. Developing and scanning done at The Darkroom in San Clemente, California. 📷❤️🎞

Forget the hero shots. Casual beautiful shots like these, especially with a vintage camera, are what make photography fun.
damn. love this one. might be my favorite video of yours yet. more of this please. 💕
I usually say this about Willem's videos, but it applies here: I feel like I just hit the bong watching your video. Keep it up.

sorry to be so off topic but does anyone know a tool to get back into an Instagram account?
I was stupid lost my account password. I appreciate any tips you can give me
@Kristopher Zachariah Instablaster :)
@Lennon Jaiden i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im in the hacking process atm.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Lennon Jaiden It worked and I actually got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my ass!
Agreed that fall time really makes you want to shoot! It's just perfect for photos! Thanks for sharing, the church photos were brilliant
This was on my feed today, March 2021. Enjoyed watching the casualness of pre-pandemic life. Thanks Matt.
I have finally just purchased a Pentax 67 from Japan and am looking forward to getting out and about with it. Your videos have helped me alot in the Medium Format decision making.
Epic fog. Looking hard at that Pentax 67
Those zoom ins really give an idea of how much detail in in that camera-film combo. Also when you you switch from your digital camera to the scanned slide, the colors really blow your mind. Thanks Matt for the inspiration!
Thanks Matt. Helpful composition thoughts, but even an even more helpful reminder to get out and shoot - and enjoy it. You look and sound happy.
Great video! It reminds me of when my wife and I would take road trips across the southern US. There were so many things I wanted to photograph but I felt guilty stopping and taking the time to do it.
All these photos are great!
Thanks for sharing, Matt. These kind of more or less unplanned trips to photograph whatever is around you is what I enjoy the most in photography.
Love the way you edited the music for this, Matt. The chilling shots of the town buildings/streets were my fav. Nice job
Crazy how all those greens came through in comparison to the video clips. Love these videos, more please!
Come back to this video often because I love the photos so much
I can only agree. I've been putting off such shoots for a long time but this year I've made a change and go shooting whenever I feel like and / or can. It was a good decision to make this change!
Nice reminder, Matt. Life is short. Take the time. Film photography is an exercise in mindfulness. And you've got some pretty nice images on a casual walkabout. Andy
Thanks for taking the time to share, Matt. It’s a good reminder of what we all need to do from time to time.
Fall is so pretty it’s hard not to take photos even it isn’t your thing. And it’s such a short period during the year, it’s definitely worth documenting it
duuude one of my favourite videos of yours yet! love this style of video and also the photos were amazing. makes me want to grab my camera and go walk around my town right now. (photo at 2:31 was my fav)
I see the direction your going with the style of the videos and yeah man it’s dope. I really like the smoothness of this video. It’s different from the over zealous energetic (nothing wrong with that) RUclips videos
Agree with your sentiment. Very refreshing video
Aasome photo's Matt, keep up these wonderful video's. It keeps me inspired to go out and take a camera with you!
I’m always a sucker for those fall colors! Love these pics
I often times find myself doing the same thing.
Sometimes I get bored at the house, so I grab my Nikon FM or FE with a 50mm 1.2 and my Pentax 6x7 with a 75mm 4.5 and walk around town and take shots of things that catch my attention. Most of the shots have turned out pretty good...some not...LoL...but it's what brings us as people joy and we can provide a picture that...may just help brighten up someone's day.
Not planned, glad you did.
Beautiful shots, thanks for sharing !!!
Glad to see you here like I do in every comments section on every single photography related video on the internet.
@@bodythetan only the ones that matter. But to be honest, I am UNSUBSCRIBING a lot lately cause all the channels that were about Photography are changed to gear channels nowadays which I find very sad and boring !
Just picked up a Pentax 67 with the 105mm f2.4 myself and this video has made me more excited to go shooting with it!
Damn, I love this video and that place. Thanks for shooting videos like this for the locals like me who can't always make it back this time of year.
Great stuff man. Also glad to know I'm not the only one walking around with field notes and a pen in my shirt pocket.
Love these short film of yours. Thanks man!
Love the style of this video, the fall shots were great too. 😊
Always good stuff, Matt! Thanks for the encouragement to take the time!
That’s how I like to do it! And I like the actual shooting film photos videos more. Thanks for sharing!
one word: serenity
great photos. I love me some fog! can't wait to get a medium format setup again.
Wholesome.
Glad you made the time to take those shots, it's a great autumn serie of photos but I like also the one of the bridge or the empty streets, they remind me a bit of "the walking dead" :-)
Way to go! Shoot film. It's good for the soul.
Such a relaxing and enjoyable video!!!
Matt - when you send your film to The Darkroom for developing and scanning do you get the standard enhanced or super scans?
Ahh I miss living in a small town. Great video, Matt!
Love it! The Pentax 67 seems like a great camera! I have a Hasselblad 500 C/M and I’ve been trying to get out and shoot when I can. Film is great because it’s forced me to slow down and think through my compositions, exposure, and it’s just fun kind of waiting a week for those negatives to come back haha
The images pair with the music was perfect. :-D
Great work as always. Loved the shots
Welcome back the Matt day photo I remembered
Matt you inspired me to get out and shoot today! Thank you! Put a roll of Portra 160 through the yashica c today.
I noticed the pen and notebook in your shirt pocket. Did you record your shots and settings? It would be interesting to learn what you recorded and why.
Outstanding!
03:48 - when you get that natural high from a pleasant day of casual shooting
A great camera. Used them professionally for many years for horse racing with Kodak Vericolor III. The lack of flash sync at speed made us swap them for Mamiya Press cameras. A camera not seen on RUclips very much for some reason.
HI Matt. Great exposures. Awesome. Just a question regarding the Portra 800. Did you expose the file one stop over at 400 or at box speed? Thanks again.
I really love your channel!
I just wish it would stop raining here. I give anything for a nice foggy morning
Jonathan Hall where are you located?
Never shot a Pentax 67 as I only have a 645 Bronica ETRS which I adore looking to add a 6x7 to my collection either the Pentax or Mamiya RB67 beautiful images I am inspired thanks
Man I miss fall mist... Over here in central Japan it's mostly clear blue skies, it's crazy.
Dang I randomly woke up & I was surprised to get a noti that you just posted. It’s 5am in Cali 🥵
quick question @Matt, what grip are you using? looks nice and pairs well with the whole camera
I really enjoyed this.
Digging those urban compositions ✊
I was just thinking, you’re going to look like a jolly old man with the beard LOL. Just a compliment. :-)
Great photos.
Why would someone disike this?🤦♀️ The camera has so much character and you take lovely photos 👏👏👏
I've gotten in the habit of just liking your videos before I even watch them.
As a landscape photographer, I am literally unable to say no to fog. I've gone into work late because of fog. You got some killer shots. I've never shot Portra 800. Just 160 and 400 but 800 looks like it has nice color. Though I usually shoot Ektar for fall foliage, the fog makes you want to reach for a more muted pallet
Did you meter for the shadows on those trees?
Cool stuff, Matt. Your videos always make want to shoot. Last night I was out with my RZ67 shooting long exposures. Really fun. But I'm really curious about your hat. Where do I get one?
Great video and photos! Where exactly is that church?
Ah yeas. Beard power!
Great Video Matt! How did you shoot the portra 800 with this fog? What did you meter for? 🎞😁
Bout put me to sleep with the music. Chill video.
Hey man ,I d like to ask you ,is it i worth to buy and shoot with this camera comparing with Minolta dynax or 9 ,for example? As comparing the quality of pics and so on...
Hi matt!!
Did you use a handheld light meter with the p67? If you did..would you set the lens to auto or manual?
Great video
The shot at 2:46 my favorite
yesss same
Sick shots, Matt! I like the church shot the most! Btw did you shoot all of these in box speed? Please do more portra 800 with the P67 or Mamiya 6!
Great as always. Are you using the rf 24-105 for vlogging?
800 ISO and sunshine or bright? What aperture?
the music and video style reminds me of pre-meme George's. really cool shots though
Great video and great photos!
Im always trying to find new locations to shoot and it’s always in a spontaneous way. Grab a film and a video camera
Take pictures and make a video on it🤓
Love the shot at (3:35). Just curious, where did you find that right-side grip?
What cap is that? It looks like a Philippine flag flown upside down.
Beard is looking lovely
4:00 favorit part shooting 120 film 😁
Is there a reason for 800 and not 400 film?
Definitely could be a scene from the walking dead
Chilledcow 100%
I wonder if it is possible not to like you. 🌳
Juan Farrell Many people do not. 🤣
Beautiful, I also can’t resist myself to go out and shoot whenever I saw the fog in the morning especially (before sunrise).. Luckily I did it and you can watch the bts video and the film photo on my channel.
How old is the film? Haven't seen an unexpired 120-film these days.
It's just a jump to the left......and then a step to the right......
0:42 -I took Molly for breakfast (he actually said "to", but it just sounded funny in my head)
There is no need for 6x7 for this photos. 135 mm film could have covered this scenes with fast prime lenses and better bokeh. Another time Pentax 67 is rather overrated. The results don't convince.
...♥
Matt, you're a really good photographer and seem like a super nice guy. I've watched a lot of your videos and you have some good stuff to say, but my main gripe with your content is that you tend to say the same thing over and over again within the same video. It's not that what you're saying isn't valuable -- it almost always is -- but your rambling (for lack of a better term) unnecessarily extends the duration, often to the point where I'll click-through the rest or even stop watching altogether.
For example, the last two minutes of this post are essentially you saying "I wasn't planning on doing this today, but I'm glad I did" over and over. I like the sentiment: that we should all be free to improvise and make time to shoot. But this could have been said in half or a fourth of the amount of time.
Maybe planning the bullet points of what you're going to discuss before you hit 'record' will help you to be more concise. Or maybe it's just a matter of editing out some of the reiterations after you've already recorded. You seem to have a lot of photography wisdom, and I'd like to see your videos include more of your ideas and less repetition.
This is coming from a place of utmost respect for you and your work, and I hope you find this constructive criticism useful. Have a great day, and happy shooting!
