About Cole & Charisma:
Welcome to the official Roll with Cole & Charisma RUclips channel! Since the start of our relationship we've gotten a lot of questions about our experiences as not only an interracial couple, but an interabled one as well. On this channel you can catch us doing travel and adventure vlogs, challenges, our inclusion series, couple first times, music, and so much more! We started this vlog to bring people into our lives, to answer some questions about how we navigate the world, and hopefully raise awareness surrounding accessibility and dating in a wheelchair. You'll quickly see in our episodes that we're all about inclusion and keeping a great attitude no matter your circumstances, so if that's what you're into, you're in the right place!
My wife and I loved your story. My wife has problems with her legs and wanted a lean on service, and I survived a ruptured brain aneurysm and several strokes. The strokes cause me to also have seizures. Someone pointed out that we needed a service dog. I joked with my wife that I needed a “Big ass dog to help get my big ass up off the ground” if I fell and had trouble getting up. She was able to find an Irish Wolfhound breeder, we named her Boudica. Now, my wife is a great dog trainer, she trained our two previous dog to do all kinds of amazing things. But she never trained Boudica as a seizure alert dog. One morning she jumped up on our bed and laid over my legs, and would not let me up no matter what. It took my youngest daughter and my wife to pull her off of me. Later that day I had a seizure. She saved our lives because we didn’t know how my seizures were caused so, we were quite afraid to leave the house. Boudica gave us that freedom, she gave us love that we will never forget. Our baby Boudica passed away three years ago and we are still grieving her loss. The huge hole she left us with, all 180+ pounds of her is hard, so,hard that we don’t know if we can ever get another dog. We enjoyed your video, thank you so much for sharing.
Get a new helper you won't regret it
@@pambranscom7093 Ha, thank you so much. We would really like to, the breeder we got Boudica from only vest trained her. My wife did all the other training for us. I think (pardon my memory damage) that we got her for around $900, we have only seen Irish Wolfhounds for no lower than $3,000. Kinda high for two people on SSI.
I’ve had English Mastiffs for 30 yrs and am disabled. I fall down. But the Mastiffs keep me from hitting the floor. But sometimes they put me in the floor after I fall. They walk up my legs (beside, not on top lol) and I put my arms around their neck and they back up. They know things!! I try to always have more than one. I try to always shop for another before the oldest one leaves. They only live 8-10 yrs. They are messy drooley furie beasties. Yes it always almost kills me when one leaves - but I still have more to help me over it.
I thing Boudica simply wishes that you all consider opening your heart for another dog, who may even be already alive and waiting on you. Another dog cannot, nor will he/she take Boudica s' place, as no child can replace another child neither: they are ALL part of a set of living beings making that family thoughout time, and it is certainly NOT according to the heart of any dog, that a family looses from its swing and brightness to let space to death. To mourn is human, but let us take example of our beloved furry team-mates who will EVER be open to one dog more, one new friend, just because they are by their love so close to the essence of life. Good luck in finding soon the little furry brother or sister your Boudica ALREADY sent your family, to take over where she left. This is the peace and love dogs bring to all "their families" who are willing to listen to them. Good luck.
@@syhlv Absolutely perfectly said! As a ol woman I don’t pray for a longer life - I pray for one more dog to love.
You shouldn't have to make a video proving anything to anyone, but it was truly amazing to see the relationship you have with Sophie!!!❤ You can tell she's happy & such a blessing to your family🥰
I was thinking the same!! 😜
I'm thinking that this is an awareness channel and telling what the service dog does is part of that.
@MsStina84 there have been comments on other videos of people saying that they treat Sophie like a house dog/pet and not a service dog, which I think is a rude assumption
I will be saving this video to share with the less educated about service dogs. My daughter has one and we are looking for one as well. Because of allergies and shedding issues we need a poodle or a poodle mix with the poodle coat. Finding a standard size ( used to be called King ) poodle is hard. 😮💨
Your disability is obvious, mine and my daughter's are not. 🙂 Many a day out has been ruined by comments from ignorant and rude people. We are polar opposites in size and at the time she had a Great Dane who always wore his vest when we were out. Some of the rude comments we got were, "Why do you need a cane, just ride the dog."🤦🏻🙄😤
Once, I was using an electric chair🧑🏻🦼 in a store because I was recovering from foot surgery 😣 and the dog's lead was in my lap while my daughter was at the other end of the aisle. Someone walked past me muttering, " If you weren't so fat you wouldn't need that chair.". 🧑🏻🦼😤 My instant response was, "And your Mom should have used birth control.". 🫄🏻🤬😤They actually stopped and yelled at ME for being so rude! 🤦🏻🤯🤨😡 Let's just say the incident didn't end well... for them and they walked away with some scorched tail feathers!!!! 🔥🐓🐔🪶🔥
Same thinking here! As interesting as this is, no one should have to explain what their service dog provides. Sophie seems like such a joy! ❤❤❤
Anyone saying "she doesnt look like a service dog" has probably never seen a service dog at home. Even guide dogs for the visually impaired are regular dogs for the most part at home until they put that harness on and start working
Agreed 💯, and it does not matter what they look like, lol. They come in all breeds, size, shapes and colors! It also depends on the disability and needs of the person. As to the size and or if a specific breed is best or any type. Most important is the temperament, ability to be loyal and focused to their person, not get easily distracted, follow commands and not be dog, cat aggressive etc. As well many other things!
Thank you for pointing out the emotional support they give people
Yes! Do know that Service Dogs and Emotional Support Animals are not the same and ESAs do not have public access (not specifically you, just anone who did not know that. Though service dogs cana lso provide emotional support, ESAs are not service dogs)

Sophie is a a good girl. I’m glad you have her.
We had our husky for close to 14 years. She was my service dog mostly when we went out into stores. At Publix as I was waiting in the pharmacy line, a person started questioning me because of my dog, Who, by the way, was lying on the floor next to my side. The lady behind me said to the rude person, “her dog is acting better than most kids!” It’s been 2 years and we miss her terribly. One day, maybe we’ll get another dog. BTW, she can be trained to know when she can relax and just be a dog. We taught our dog the word, “at ease”. She knew then it was time to have fun. When we’d say her name and, “come”, she knew it was time to be needed again.
My SD died suddenly and unexpectedly 6 months ago...worst loss of my life. Sophie is amazing ❤❤❤
Sooo sorry for your loss!! 🤍🤍
My condolences
I'm so sorry for your loss. I understand how deeply you feel it. ❤
@@coleandcharismaGod bless you and your dog 🐕 have a great day dear man sincerely Ms Suzanne 😊😇🫂
Pet loss is sad. She was a friend that you could rely for company and to keep you safe. I hope you can get another service dog.
Awww, Sophie is so sweet, and so loyal and hardworking! It's a very special relationship between a service dog and their person. I'm so happy you have her, and she has y'all. What a great family! 😊🐕🦺
This video is beautiful it not only shows she's a service animal but a a family pet that is very loved ❤😊
Dogs are special animals!!!! 💞🐾👏
I love how Sophie's home life looks. She seems so happy and playful, while being a wonderful physical and emotional support animal! I think emotional support animals need to be taken more seriously as well.
emotional support animals already are taken TOO SERIOUSLY like some people think they got public access "like no"
@@JCandAshersLife If you have an actual diagnosed mental health issue... then YES!
@@Raven_Rozze Oh yeah! but sometimes people will like use them for like reasons that like don't apply, or like make there dog become an emotional support animal without any training; and like bring them out in pub lic even though they don't have public access rights and they can distract service dogs
@@JCandAshersLife That's a slippery slope though of the "maybes" and "what-ifs." I am a disabled individual and know people who claim animals as physical support workers when they are not certified. I think it best to give individuals the benefit of the doubt and if the animal seems too unruly to address the issue then.
@@Raven_Rozze U do u but that's just my opinion and I mostly see little chawwawas barking with a vest saying emotional support so yeah
In Canada, there is no registration for service dogs. Dogs are trained specifically for what the needs of the human are. I have been training animals since I was a kid, so when I was in need of a service dog, I took it upon myself to train a dog to my needs. I too have allergies, and there are few breeds that don't trigger me. I had a 4 lbs. Chihuahua that I trained to alert me when my glucose levels dropped or spiked. He was also trained to alert others when I need assistance. I trained him not to bark unless I was in danger, and he'd "whisper" when most dogs would bark excessively. He was very obedient and wouldn't even eat unless I told him to. He did everything I asked him to do, and never complained unless I was cleaning my bed off from all the pet hair. LOL Sure he was too small to turn off lights or fetch me a drink from the fridge, but I didn't need that kind of support. I had doctors testimony letters stating that he did a medical service and that he was well behaved, but I still got flack from some ignorant individuals.
☝🏻It's the same here in the USA...NO service dog registration!!!
I'm training my 2nd service dog as I ease my 1st self trained service dog into retirement 😊
Its cute that she seems to also have a productive bond with Charisma, so happy to tell Mom when she's helped Dad.
I love that you have Sophie to help you out. She is adorable.
So interesting. I have had a service dog for many years. Walter is my third service dog for mobility issues and because I am deaf. He helps me so much!
The joy Sophie gives Cole is apparent with how excited Cole is talking about her.

When you are out and Sophie has her vest on, it shows other people that she is a service dog and not your family pet when she’s in vest mode! She is very smart and you can tell she is attached to you! Thanks for sharing Sophie’s role with you. 👏👍👏❤️👏❤️👏
Aww, Watching Sophie come running to pick things up for Cole is so super cool and brought tears to my eyes lol
Sophie is such a beautiful dog!!😍🥰
She’s a blessing!!🫶🏼
I hope you continue to educate people on service dogs. Sometimes you see them and they seem unhappy. Some service dog owners need to remember, they are STILL a dog and DESERVE a happy life, like Sophie.
That's interesting. I've never seen an unhappy looking service dog. I wonder if some programs are better than others at training the dogs and the handlers to work well together.
@junbh2 Come to WA State. Some dogs look miserable. Could be our weather? Plus, some owners will snap at you if you even speak to the animal. People here are weird anyway. It is my hometown.
@@ebkikibo Actually, you should NEVER speak to a service dog, unless you asked the permission to their handler (and they can deny it). You should NEVER distract a service dog from their work in any way.
@lellab.8179 DUH. I'm speaking just in general. I don't go around purposefully distracting service dogs. It's not always what you do, but how you do it. I don't know them, but I suspect Cole would not get too bent out of shape if someone happened to speak to Sophie under normal circumstances. Dogs have more sense than some people. You can deal with it. I'm sure children try to engage as well. JS.
@@ebkikiboI would hope parents would teach their children not to talked or try to pet a service dog. We sure do with my niece's and nephews.
Standard Poodles are so smart and awesome. She's the perfect breed for a companion/assist dog.
She's also Gorgeous 😍
Sophie has grown so much. I remember how little she was when you first got her. I remembered you working with the trainer and her running around your yard at the house in VA. I'm so glad she's working out for you guys. Love ya❤❤
Awww, so great of you to dedicate a video to Sophie and her "work". Also, she is so well trained and gorgeous! Sophie is a fantastic member of your family🌻
Sophie’s such a sweet girl and a great service dog! I’m so glad you guys have her!! ❤️ I find it so fascinating how service dogs take their work mode responsibility so seriously. It seriously could be life or death for someone. Dogs are angels on earth!! ❤
I’ve been watching you all for years and I noticed Sophie helps you a lot but I wasn’t sure she was a facility trained service dog or not. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience and the ways she helps you. I love the story of how she dropped the phone right where you needed it. She sounds incredibly smart. And the birthday tutu story. Miscommunication there. Haha
No rules or regulations on “facility “ training. I have a service dog who’s never been to a “facility “. Geesh, there’s a LOT of misinformation around this. She happens to be a golden retriever but I knew one tiny dog who could tell when the owner was going to have a seizure & save her life. Mine does many tasks that I never even thought to teach…she even knows blood pressure. Saved me many times. Dr approved & recommended. Husband picked her out of a litter. Try not to play judge, ok? Thanks.
Sophie is not only a service dog, she's also adorable ❣️
Omgosh, she’s so cute. So glad you guys found her. 🩷
I love that you include the training of you and Charisma. Too many people think a dog is trained on commands, and whoever issues the command, the dog follows. Not the case. Person-dog pairs are trained. When our pup went through obedience training, he went twice; once with me and once with hubs. People always express surprise that he listens to both of us, saying things like, “Ours will listen to him, but not me.” That’s why. People require training, too.
I am disabled but don't have a service dog, but I do respect that they were very specifically trained to help the individual especially in public. I see so many people who are unaware of the fact that they can't distract a service dog, from their tasks, it's vital for people who need a service/medical alert dog, people who have seizures or heart conditions, Sophie's role is just as important to you as she is a big help to doing tasks you can't do without her help. Great job Sophie ❤!
I love how both of you interact with Sophie. God bless all 3 of you!
She is beautiful. I am disabled in a wheelchair/powerchair....and Daisy always tries to help me. She also knows when I need to lay down and lures me to bed LOL.
Sophie is not only beautiful but very intelligent 💖. She's such a wonderful doggy and such a blessing 🙌.
Dogs are amazing animals, I related to your story at about 9:38 concerning my brother and his regular dog who saved his life when he fell off his mule in the mountains with a punctured lung, his dog ran home and got his wife who later found him. So grateful.
She looked so cute in her birthday outfit
Loved this video and how special Sophie is to you both.
Thank You so much for sharing! I've been looking for my Service Dog for a long, long, long time. Drs. leave it up all to your own doing. I look and research for months then get frustrated and quit. Then I pick it up again for awhile. Get discouraged and stop...It's not the easiest thing to do on your own. Thank you both for caring, teaching, sharing your life... journey!
🥰🙏🏻♥️💪🏻♥️🐕🦺🐶🙏🏻♥️
I am in Florida and very flexible with our payments and disabilities we work with.
She’s so cute and smart. She’s very helpful. Perfect match I’d say
Hello Cole and Charisma happy Sunday sending love from Jamaica 🇯🇲 ❤❤
I'm glad you both have Sophie. She is beautiful. Continue to be blessed always ❤️ 🙏🏼
I used to raise German Shorthaired Pointers. Almost 35 years ago I donated pups twice to a service dog training organization. Both made it thru training and were given to people. The first pup went to a quadriplegic. We went to his 'graduation' several states from us. I was told he was the first GSP service dog ever. My line was specifically bred for intelligence, flexibility, and a larger than usual size. We were proud of our boy and grateful that we could be helping others. The folks who received the dog were planning a wedding and 'Scout' was scheduled to be their ring bearer. Not every pup had the potential, but the next time I had one I was happy to have another to donate. The dogs and the people who train the dogs and the people they serve are the real deal. I was wondering if your dog by chance was a GSP Poodle cross. She looks like it might be that mix. I hope all people in need of service dogs are as dog friendly as you two are.
Sophie is such a sweetheart
Thanks for sharing Sophie with us. She is an amazing dog. And cute too!
What a beautiful fur daughter shes the best for your little family god bless you both are an inspiration❤❤❤
I don't own a dog, but I like dogs. It's so nice to see when people have well-trained dogs out in public at the park or or in the parking slot next to mine. There are two rules I always follow when I see a dog in public: always ask before engaging while never expecting an owner to say "Sure thing!" because some people don't want their dogs engaging with strangers and that is okay. The other rule is to not bother asking or engaging with a dog in a service vest. I call that 'respect from a distance'. 😍
Thank you, also, for clarifying the laws surrounding service dogs. You can always tell when someone is scamming when they become indignant upon being asked what services the dog performs. Personally, I’ve never understood why there isn’t some simple government issued “something” (like a parking placard, etc.) but in lieu of that, if someone refuses to answer what functions the pet performs, I support the businesses in taking appropriate action.
(I initially added what mine does, as another example, but I removed it so as not to give less honorable people ideas. Mine are invisible illnesses, so I’m questioned a lot.)
Thanks guys!!❤
look at little Sophie she is so cute and I always wish this couple so well so well they deserve it god bless them so much amen.
Sophie is gorgeous! I am so happy you have her! Thank you for your strength and courage.
Simply beautiful and brilliant. Dogs, service and otherwise, rule. 💕 🐾
Put a smile on my heart seeing you guys all have each other. She is a wonderful dog.. Thank you for sharing.
❤ can we seriously stop for a minute and congratulate this man on thinking about his partner and how unhappy she would be full of allergies! You're a team and that's amazing! I loved seeing the video of charisma playing with her, how cute and I'm so glad you found a hypoallergenic dog that works for both of you! Dogs are so amazing!😀❤
Poodles are very smart dogs. She does a great job for you.❤
Just the most heart warming story....what a delightful team you guys are! Shows you what love can do...🙌
World should learn from this, that dogs nowdays can be really helpful worker. As support therapy or service dog in general.
God has blessed you in your life with a beautiful wife and a great service dog. May God bless and keep you always.
I remember when you received her. She is so cute and adorable. She is a great Dog. And she loves ❤ Cole and Chrismia.
Sophie knows the difference of being in the service dog mode and a regular dog. When she isn't working. Love watching her and she has been such a blessing to you and family. She helps out a lot. 😊😊😊😊❤❤❤
God truly blessed you with Sophie!! ❤
It’s so amazing how smart dogs are

Sofia is awesome and so sweet I am so glad you guys have her 🙏🏼🥰
I had a standard black poodle and they're goobers til their last breath ❤
I really appreciate this video! Thank you for showing us what Sophie does for you. I am a wheelchair user and would love to have a service dog someday! You definitely didn't need to prove that she helps you, but for people like me, who honestly thought she was "just" a pet, I now understand your journey with her.
Great story! Sophie is so cute and smart. She's great for you! ❤❤ Charisma is great too. The 3 of you have a great bond!
One thing that we can all agree on: Sophie is a very cute dog. Cheers!
Sophie is awesome. Loved when she was running ZOOMIES . She knew you were talking about how smart she is ❤
Somehow I fell off the radar and I haven’t seen your videos for a long time! I’m happy I found you two again!
She is awesome! Thanks for sharing, ALS service dogs are trained in many tasks. My friend had a service dog until her death. Roxi lives with me now. I tale her to ALS awareness for ALS. Roxi is trained to alert. Retrieve, pull off socks and bring slippers hold the slipper until each foot which was so cool. Haley loved Roxi so much, she asked me to take her. Roxi was with Haley 8 years, I will send you all a really cool video to watch its Roxi a d Haley in a 3 minute video 8 years Condensed for the ALS awareness conferences. It shows just how perfect a service animal is for ALS. Roxi is a blonde labradorite. I take her to stores to keep her trained. The managers know she's training and allow us in weekly. She is also a balance keeper, I tripped on a lifted sidewalk crash she positioned herself to keep me from falling
She's a cool pal. She cannot move to another ALS patient because of her age. Haley taught her to smile lol it's a doodler smile teeth showing lol. She is 12 years old. She us perfect for the conferences and training awareness. Keep rolling on!
Sophie is a perfect dog for the job and love ! I had a collie that I trained for my service dog. She picked up anything I dropped. I have a large brain tumor and bending down isn't a good thing for me to do. I need to train my next one but just haven't started yet. I miss my older girl ! I like the strap on your phone, it sure made it easier for her to pick up !
Sohie is a wonderful, precious Treasure!!!! Thank you for sharing!
The two questions that people may ask you. Is that a service dog?. What tasks does your service dog provide? Last week I had to put my 16 1/2 Diabetic medical alert service dog down, Cocco was a Shih tzu he went into severe congestive heart failure. In the USA, there's no certification required for service dogs. My father had service dogs before I was born in 1966. For the deaf. My dad was the head electrician for a tire building company. All of my dads dogs understood sign language commands. They were all trained n breed by my dads brother. If you want a great service dog , training happens on a daily basis. Cocco was trained by me . He was the most amazing dog I ever had. And my dad had all German Shepherds. There's good training programs for service dogs in alot of States. But if you were told that Sophie is certified there's no such thing. I glad you have Sophie she's a beautiful dog. ❤ Give her a hug from me I miss my Cocco. The most important thing between a service dog and the person its helping is the bond of love you make with your dog.Trena
Beautiful lovely couple. I love watching your video
shes a sweet baby and she deserves to be with your loving family.
So clever and such a beautiful and happy dog
Sophie doing a wonderful job 👏
This really warms my heart!❤
I always hear from popular trainers that dogs need and love to have a job. You just proven this, now I want to try to train my dog to do a couple of things for us. When I first got my 70lb Pit rescue, he showed me he could open the fridge, yikes not a good thing for him to know, I had to tape it shut when I went to work.
Perfect! Thank you!
Even if just as emotional support, animals improve your life just by existing! ❤❤
Much love! Thanks for the education ❤
I self trained my service dog and I would not trade him for the world because like you I have found that the support that he provides the most is the emotional support. We do have tasks that he helps with but he always is there for me emotionally. once your dog knows how you communicate and how to learn, they pick up these things really fast and it just creates this dynamic between you and your dog that is beautiful. Our service dogs can be emotional support dogs. Just because they are one does not mean they cannot be the other. Thank you for educating the general public because it helps all of us.
What a beautiful family 🐾🐾
oh what a great video, I think its the best ever. I'm a. full leg ampotee at 65 and will give more thought to this, thank you
