I have found ziplocks to be pretty good. But you are right that they are not perfect. There is a lot of variability in quality. Name brand are better than off brand and the freezer bags are better than the standard. I have certainly had plenty of the cheap sand which bags not be air tight at all, but I can put a quart size freezer bag under water and it holds the air really well. However, depending on how sharp the dried items are in the bag, they can also punch holes in the bag, but again, the “freezer” style hold up really well for me.
