Looking to collaborate with a friend of mine to make a music project, and considering whether i wanna go dawless or not. The video really helped with the decision, thanks!

I'm trying to go the route of recording DAWless too. If you're still using a DAW to record your music, it's not really DAWless. I was kind of skimming, so forgive me if you touched on that. If you're just doing this for live performance, then it's DAWless. I plan on going full DAWless while creating/recording, but then using a DAW for post-production/mastering. I own a lot of software, so there's no reason not to use it, but I'm going to be very frugal in the future, when it comes to paying big money for software. I think I'm going to be buying one of the Tascam DP-SD multi-track recorders. I was looking at the Model series, but they're hundreds more, and I don't absolutely need the extra bells and whistles that the Model offers, although I may buy one down the road, but I'm more focused on synths right now, and the Model series will eat up my budget for a month or two. I feel that computers will always be integrated in my setup, but I'm tired of using a mouse and computer keyboard to make music. Software companies can be unethical if you want to resell high priced software, so be very careful before buying an expensive vst. Before you click that 'Pay Now' button, read the fine print or make sure you really want the vst. High quality vsts are very expensive, so they shouldn't be so predatory when people don't want the product anymore, but a lot of them are. I have serious buyers remorse. I could buy a Moog One and a Prophet, and still have money leftover, if I sold my software. If I could, I would.

Hi I'm new at music production. I'm looking to do a DAWless setup because I want the flexibility of just making music on the spot without being tied to a computer all the time.
I have a UNO Synth. What else would you recommend to have a minimalist but budget friendly complete setup for someone that also play the guitar?

I read somewhere that the best approach is hybrid. You do as much as you can without the DAW and then you use the DAW only for finishing it up.

I am sitting here wondering how well I would do if I got me a set up like this except that what if I were to replace a traditional keyboard synthesizer with my guitar running a Boss SY1 pedal. I don’t play piano but I’ve been doing guitar for 35 years. I have just never run my guitar through a synthesizer pedal before.

    Digitone - the ideal groovebox?
    ✅ Excellent sequencer.
✅ High quality synth (way more versatile than the Model:Cycles).
✅ Drum machine with endless drum synthesis.
✅ Great reverb and delay effects.
✅ Can route external audio through its effects (great for future expansion of your dawless setup).

Well said! I've been interested in the Digitone for a while but haven't pulled the trigger yet. I think the biggest thing that stops it for being the ideal groovebox for me at least is that it can't do any sampling. If only Elektron would release a Digitontakt or something hahah

Thanks for the runthrough! I am thinking about going dawless and currently have a 8 track mixer, roland tr8s and will buy a bass station 2, minilogue xd and was thinking about the keystep pro to act as replacement for my apc mini that was controlling clips from the sessions view in ableton. As i want to go dawless, I was thinking the keystep pro would be a great replacement so that i can control a whole live set through the keystep. My question is firstly, the minilogue xd sequencer looks great, so I just want so send midi patterns through the keystep pro to the minilogue xd but still be able to flip around with the sequencer on the minilogue, while having everything synced up - is this possible or is it so that when i have midi through the keystep you can only use the keystep sequencer?
Sorry for the long question, I have tried to get this answer through forums but with no luck, or superlong answering time - would appreciate it! :) and thanks for the vid!

Hey Alexi, hopefully didn't take too long! You should be able to use the Minilogue's sequencer independently even if it is connected to the keystep pro. When i had a behringer crave synth and used the novation circuit as sequencer, i could use the circuit to input notes into the crave's sequencer or just use the crave's sequencer/notes independetly. i assume the minilogue will act the same!

Grimes, Skrillex, Phineas o connel, boys noise, all go dawles. Of course they use pioneer for the dj set up. But I think having a laptop has huge risks, freezing, crashing, overheating. That could be a massive issue. On the other hand if you have a really good computer, like deadmau5 for instance plays with a desktop PC in his cube. Probably because it's a lot more stable. But that's why I see more djs use pioneer than laptops because they are way more reliable and durable. Maybe I'm wrong.
