Hey bud, I've been dealing with same problem a few years. I live a few miles from you, it was -12 here. I'm at 6800ft. My lifepo4 batteries are protected , I used a 12v and a 120v RV tank heater. A flat pad heats to 150F. I attached to a cut piece of sheet metal. It radiates heat and warms to entire battery box. I removed thermometer switch and run constantly. Wireless temp sensor has alarm set for 95F. Stays 55F at -12. Pads are 25 bucks at Amazon. Sheet metal was scrap. It runs on 40w and works great. Just sharing my solution. Hope you get it warm

CamperVan Kevin sent several of us over to this channel.. I resubscribed .. What a messed up thing... Can you request RUclips reinstate your original channel??
I was watching another couple online who have the same setup like yours. They put a row of reflectics material around the base or outside bottom of their RV. They also used the silver tape to tape it to the RV, then buried the bottom of the reflectics, that touched the ground, with dirt. They said it helped a lot. Stay warm! 🙏♌️
I remember back in the day when van life channels and other vanners/RVers started using reflectics as insulation. I said in several, SEVERAL videos that reflectix has no insulation value. It's tin foil glued to bubble wrap. That was about the same time people started thinking they figured out how to keep mice out of their engine compartment by keeping the hood open haha. I said that causes more issues than it solves. But, it is what it is!
The thing that most people miss about those batteries with heaters is they require some form of external power to run the heaters, they don't use power from themselves to run the heaters. You will have to provide at least 15 amps of power from the alternator of a vehicle or an AC charger ran by a generator in order for the heaters to come on, solar would be an option but how many people have enough solar on their rigs to get the needed 15 amps.
Yup last year in those temps I found baking a lot of food in the oven helped keeping the water lines from freezing and added extra heat. This year in in a warmer climate, but put the batteries under my bed, with and a diesel heater located in the same area, also ducted heater under sink and cabinet with a few holes to add heat. Next year adding a duct to heat under the trailer with insulated skirting, also will have a 200gallon above drowns cistern that will be under the trailer as well protected from the cold, just idea ☮️
Amazon has reptile heating pads and I have poultry heat pads that are larger but only 45 watts. They all run on 120 volt. You can also get a cheap plug in temperature switch. The small yellow one I believe turns on at 35 and off at 45.
I put a T on the output of my diesel heater to heat the compartment. The T has a knob where I can adjust how much goes into each hose so I can send the majority of the heat into my RV and a smaller amount into the compartment where I have some Lifepo4 batteries and all my water pipes are in the same large compartment. The tee cost I think $17 on aliexpress.
Hey Mike, Put another brick in front of the heater and put the insulation back on the door. The heater will help disperse the heat from blowing on the door and the heat will warm the brick to retain some heat in case the heater shuts off. Sorry to hear about your other channel. Been watching you for years. -Jon
You can try placing a ceramic space heater near the diesel heater’s air output. It will boost the electric heater’s temperature output. Hopefully that made sense. Warm air drawn in, makes for warmer air blown out.
I did consider putting in a second heater just like the first, and setting it to turn on if it hits 40 while the other is set to turn on at 50 degrees. But, I'd have to order one. :-)
Have you thought about getting a roll of the heavy plastic and putting it over your windows and walls it will sure make things warmer...could even put it on the floor to keep the cold out...we even do this in Texas when it gets cold...
Wrap the batteries In electric 12v blanket add skirting around trailer. Work on having all batteries inside wear the disel heat runs problem solved. Frozen lines means may crack n brake some seals.
Make sure your heater turns back on after it losses power. We have some Lasko heaters that if the power losses power for just a second , it won't turn back on. You also have to reset the temperature setting or it will default to 75 degrees. Hopefully yours doesn't do that
Haha, that's the first thing I did. I didn't mention it in the video, in fact I think I suggested otherwise. Because you are right, darn thing doesn't go back on. At least I can turn it off without opening the compartment though and letting the heat out. Yeah, I like those older electric heaters (not the super old fire breathing ones) that even have a thermostat on em and are a bit smaller. Those are nice!
Can you cut some foam board insulation to line the inside of the compartment with? Might help your heater a bit. If you have room, put some foam board insulation on the inside of the compartment door. and any of the sidewalls and floor if you can. Every little bit will reduce how much your heater needs to run.
On my RV, I built a wooden box that the lithium batteries are in. On the bottom of the box on one corner, I installed a little 40 mm computer fan that pulls air into the box. The outlet of the box is on the opposite top corner of the box. I then ran PVC pipe into the RV and connected it to where the fan is on the box. This way, the fan pulls in warm air from inside the RV to keep the batteries above freezing. Granted, the coldest it ever was while I was in the rv was 12 degrees, but the batteries never got below 50 degrees. Of course, for this to work, you have to keep the heat running inside the RV.
Maybe you need to plumb a tee into your diesel heater output duct. Mine "t" diverts one hot output tube onto my water tank and battery area. Then put a vent thru the compartment inside paneling into your room also. Mine is a Truck camper.
Mike, instead of heating the entire battery compartment with a 750/1500 watt air/space heater, infrared bulbs or (even better) some aftermarket thermal battery pads/jackets, would be wayyy more efficient at keeping your batteries above charge temp. The difference in efficiency is why manufacturers of LifePO4 batteries, offer batteries with thermal heating pads/jackets vs mini ceramic air heaters.
Hi Mike. So glad to see your videos again no matter what the name of the channel😄. I wanted to tell you that here in NE Florida it has been BONE CHILLING COLD. The coldest I have ever seen. Last night it was 24. CRAZY! So. I have a well on my property & I have a heat lamp in the well house. That’s pretty common here. But the great thing is. I found an outlet that I can plug in the heat lamp ant will not come on if it gets to 32 degrees F. And shuts off when it gets to 41 . I will send you the link if you want. I saw it on a homesteading channel . They used this device in their chicken coup.
@@cheapoffgridliving2542 I've been watching your vids for at least 10 of those 12 years, I'm pretty sure. I admire your grit, determination to face off with what comes your way and do what you need to find a way, be thankful and always look forward. Top quality. 👍
Good morning Mike. I have a smaller heater I'm not using. It plugs into an electrical outlet. My heater oscillates. You can have it if you want it. I don't use it anymore. Let me know. I could mail it to you. I don't care for bologna either.
I have a solution but its going to cost you more money Buy lead acid batteries just to run in the Winter and switch back to Lithium when the temp is warmer. As far as your hose curling, I had the same issue when I pumped water from my water barrel using a short piece of garden hose.I solved the problem by inserting a 2' x 1/4 in dowel-type stick into the bottom of the hose which straightened it out. You might want to try a barbell weight that you use for lifting weights. Maybe the hose will fit into the hole in the middle of the weight?
Did you think to maybe skirt under the rv,, to insulate the underneath during these cold nights. Also pipe insulators are super cheap to keep your water lines warmer. Sorry to hear about your other channel
It got down to 22 degrees for several days here in southern Alabama, all of our batteries are lithium like yours, I put a space heater in the big shed where most of the batteries are and that really helped, but my very smart wife came up with the idea to wrap the batteries with a 12 volt electric blanket and that really helped. For a few days I had to run the generator to top the batteries off, they never dropped below 70% all through the cold spell. All of the water lines are wrapped with self-regulating pipe heat tape and then covered with reflective insulation, we should never have an issue with frozen water lines....
That heat tape never worked for me in northern MN. I wrapped pipes with the heat tape and then taped insulation around that several times, but the pipes still froze over. I hope your experience works out though!
Yeah, was waiting for a genius like you to come tell me ahead of time. But you didn't... so sad. Oh well, I've made it 7 years so far in it. Take care.
Not being sensitive, I'm genuinely reacting to a ridiculous/condescending statement. A couple of midol? Add another insult? You're like the type of person that would poke a badger with a stick while it was trying to sleep and then get upset at it for being annoyed at you. Haha. No hate, just try being nice ok.
@cheapoffgridliving2542 You are free to live any life you'd like to in this nation as am I. Personally I choose a life of freedom that doesn't include living in a sandbox. I've already experienced it to a level you probably couldn't understand. The only time I poke a bear is when its a threat to me or mines safety or way of life. So get your giggles out. I choose to support people that avoid beg-a-thons when life throws road blocks. Helping those in need was bred into us from a young age. A hand up is not the same as a hand out. Being a victim can be your choice if that's what you want. I'll choose to be self reliant to guarantee a future for myself and those i care for as well as those in need. If you choose to only concern yourself with your personal struggles are you really honoring the word of God or is it just a convience for you.? You throw "hate" at anyone that disagrees or comments differently then you. How's that work?
I mean, I’m not trying to rattle your cage or anything Mike but it seems like you have a lot of experience living in a camper but the way you talk about the temperature and stuff are as if this is your first time out there? When you say negative temperatures, you must mean below freezing because if you are subzero Fahrenheit, then you are totally screwed and lucky that you did not die at night. The windows in these things, and yes, I am in my van and sleep in it as well, Are so thin that you have to have a working diesel heater, and the water pipes will absolutely freeze. Trying the pump and the faucet like you did is a great way to crack the pipes and break the motor. You should know that.
Man your Off Grid experience seems like a daily struggle. And the Sand, its like every where. First, take your "frozen" tubing inside your RV and dry it off from the diesel, let it warm up some. Next grab that pipe you mentioned was failing and wipe off the sand. Then with the "frozen" clear tubing some what pliable zip tie it to the metal tubing and this will allow you to use the clear tubbing to pump from the diesel barrel without it floating to the top of the barrel . But man deal with the sand. First, see if you can get some hay bales on the cheap. Then use as insulation around the bottom of your RV. If they are covered after winter you can use them again next year. Next, start looking for free pallets during your travels. Lay the pallets around your entire RV so you have something to walk on other than in the sand. Then create somewhat of a deck by your door entrance to stand on to cook food when your outside. This will also help when it rains and you have to go outside to fix something on the RV in an emergency and not be laying in the rain water. These are just some suggestions , feel free to delete if you feel this is derogatory or negative. You should just out G Bears off grid ways. That guy is looking for someone to pass his land off to when he passes on.
You shouldn't have this problem most years. This year it is extremely cold everywhere. I am in the Seattle area where it is usually in the 40's to 50's and we are seeing weeks of freezing temperatures.
Throw a blanket over those batteries bro.if you can find a dc power electric one that turns on n off with a thermostat would be perfect if not buy a cheap vachina made thermostat or a timer for the electric blanket
I'm so glad you have this back-up channel too. Pleeease take all steps necessary to keep it secure. We got a taste of those sub zero temps in West Virginia as well. The older you get, the more it hurts. Thumbs up!👍 W-w-wooo!🥶
Not sure if people even realize they're not subscribed to this channel I thought it was weird you said you lost your Channel but I was watching you come to find out I wasn't subscribed to this channel I am now what happened to the original Channel? (Edit) I see the next vid recommended is the channel high jacked.. I'll watch next .. stay cool 😎 or warm 😅
Got to wash the stick first to get the sand off. Then, got to weigh down the bottom of the stick so it doesn't just float on it's side. But yeah, that's the right direction of thought.
A rv isn't a sub zero habitat build a pole barn around it and isolate the barn heat the barn by wood stove then build you a home around rv pull out rv then finish
⚠️ Mike I wanted to let you know I just saw another person’s yt channel get taken over by the same person. It is called The Wolfe Pit. It’s first showing up as a livestream and you click on it and it’s this money infomercial or something. Hang in there. You tube has got to figure this out, it’s ridiculous 😞
Mike. Sucks about the gopro crap. They tried it with me. You saved me. Sorry u had to go through it though. Crazy though after your video I dreamt it happened to me.. Woke up and sighed. I hope you get your channel back. I sub to your other channel. Sorry Bro.
Mike I like garlic put it doesn’t like rather my stomach doesn’t it. Did u know it can give u diarrhea. Me neither until last week. Lol keep warm. Sorry about ur utube problem. I’ve followed u for years. Lost my cat last month. We called her Crazy Gracie.
For such a simple way of living it sounds really complicated.. seems like you need an electrical engineering degree to work on your solar system.. I’ll just flick my switch and be done with it thank you.
Every off grid channel I watch uses wood burning stoves.. they have to go to the wood pile , every day and get wood.. RV s are not made for sub zero weather.. campervan Kevin’s little house was 70 degrees the other day..
I did wood stove over ten years. I don't like em a whole lot. Constant mess, constantly adding more wood and so on. Great to have for emergency though. I'd rather do it than freeze! But if there's other cheap options like a diesel heater, why? Know what I mean?
Yes, but it’s spent “cheaply” hence the point behind the name of the channel. Also, last I checked, life involves spending money & there’s really no way around it 😂
Duuuude you can't plug a space heater into a extention cord. They over heat and go on fire easy. Ask all the firemen who watched houses go up in flames just cuz of a heater like that in a extention cord. Every year they post and warn at winter with pictures of the melted cords that started the house fire. No one thinks it'll happen to them, but it does sadly.
If you get a decent medium duty outdoor extension cord that is rated for 1800 watts as I did. And I use the heater on low which is 800 watts, it's fine. You're talking about folks using 1500 watt heater on a 1600 watt cheap cord and keeping it running for hours. :-)
I wonder if you could change the name of your channel to your original channel name so that when people do a search they could find you. I always used to look under Mike and sober.

Would a 100 to 200 watt heat lamp work in the compartment and be cheaper than a space heater?
Yes....70

Use your Propane ducted forced air heater, and that should heat that compartment. May need a 250 gallon tank.
Hence the reason I still use AGM... Yep they are heavy but nothing affects them.
Hey Mike,
Put another brick in front of the heater and put the insulation back on the door. The heater will help disperse the heat from blowing on the door and the heat will warm the brick to retain some heat in case the heater shuts off. Sorry to hear about your other channel. Been watching you for years.

Look into a mat heater like for chickens or pets to put under your batteries. Would use a lot less watts than heating up the whole compartment.

You should know that.
hang in there Mike , it will get better man
I got alkaline battery's with my solar...has lastedv3 yrs so far..
❤yes thank God for backup
always ❤
So I missed what happened to the Living Free Channel? Accidentally came across this one.
It was hacked and taken over by someone.
MY fiver RV in N GA struggled a little too. Not too bad
Hang in there, Mike I think that heater will work fine...wow Freezing in the desert 🏜
You shouldn't have this problem most years. This year it is extremely cold everywhere. I am in the Seattle area where it is usually in the 40's to 50's and we are seeing weeks of freezing temperatures.
Stay warm my friend
Throw a blanket over those batteries bro.if you can find a dc power electric one that turns on n off with a thermostat would be perfect if not buy a cheap vachina made thermostat or a timer for the electric blanket
I'm so glad you have this back-up channel too. Pleeease take all steps necessary to keep it secure.
We got a taste of those sub zero temps in West Virginia as well. The older you get, the more it hurts.
Thumbs up!👍
W-w-wooo!🥶
What a miserable way to have to live !!! Prayers for you!
I do it for the freedom.
New subscriber...I came from Camper Van Kevin's channel. I am sorry you are having so many problems, especially loosing your channel.
Your RV can't handle 0 temps..Reeeeaaallyy!!
Hope everything works out Mike. You have God on your side..
Definitely! And God is good!
Tie your hose to a straight stick and then put in the barrel. Clean the stick off first.
You got this! 😀
Always here from Bemidji Minnesota.
Good luck
I'm here for you Mike- Angela B from Montana. God willing you will persevere🙏🏾!
put electric blankets over your battery 12 volt electric blankets
Blue sky awesome, -6 not so much.
Hit the road for a month or two and head to the Q.
you also have a ton of subs that have been here since the beginning....so there's that....
Bbbrrr stay warm!
Hi Mike campervan Kevin sent me
Mike. Sucks about the gopro crap. They tried it with me. You saved me. Sorry u had to go through it though. Crazy though after your video I dreamt it happened to me.. Woke up and sighed. I hope you get your channel back. I sub to your other channel. Sorry Bro.
Sounds very Negative I will say a prayer for more positivity 😊

Idk... heating pad on those batteries?? After insulation
Run your gentora
Anxious to see how this works. Good idea :)
Works great for emergencies!
Looks like a fire waiting to happen!!!! Hope your smoke detector is working !!!
😎
@@cheapoffgridliving2542 it’s been in use for thousands of years of years..
@@cheapoffgridliving2542 why not go to Quartzite like thousands of others do. You do have a home with a motor.
I can't handle the horrible screechs and tone deaf karaoke everyone seems to want to do all the time for "fun". I think it's insanity.
Cheap Off Grid Living, sure spends a lot of money..... Lol
He’d need extension cords rated for 1500 watts +.
If you get a decent medium duty outdoor extension cord that is rated for 1800 watts as I did. And I use the heater on low which is 800 watts, it's fine. You're talking about folks using 1500 watt heater on a 1600 watt cheap cord and keeping it running for hours. :-)
Time to go back and live in sticks and bricks while working !
My camper had no insulation at all.
I've been double insulating including undercarriage.
You should put antigell in your diesel fuel.
Why? I don't have an issue with my diesel gelling up. :-)
Just move to RV park so you can enjoy life..
I wonder if you could change the name of your channel to your original channel name so that when people do a search they could find you. I always used to look under Mike and sober.
