"He wouldn't break, Zoe. He kept me from...I wouldn't have made it." I always appreciated Wash's realization of what Mal meant to Zoe in the war, and what Mal now means to Wash.
Niska's "very special machine" is clearly an advanced, future version of Count Rugen's life sucker, which proves that _Firefly_ and _The Princess Bride_ take place in the same universe. Of course, it's really just Whedon's homage to Reiner's film, which is why, like Wesley, Mal dies and then is brought back and is heroic.
I get you're joking, but I'm pretty sure it's some sort of subdermal surgery device that has been reconfigured solely to inflict pain and soft tissue damage.
She definitely has the best sense of humor of the women reactors. Natalie Gold is pretty good, too, but she's a lil judgy with the crude humor. Dawn just lol's. It's one of the reasons I think this series is the best test of a new girlfriend. If she doesn't like it or doesn't get the humor then it's time to find a new gal.
@@daneng3641 - Know what you mean. I think Dawn Marie's reaction was a perfect reflection of all of ours. One of my favorite moments in the whole series. Gives us that tired old cliche...and then stomps on it!
Episode 1 Jayne: "Captain, can you stop Kaylee from being so cheerful?" Mal: "I don't think there is a Power in the 'Verse that can stop Kaylee from being cheerful! It makes you want to duct tape her mouth and throw her in the hold for a month or so." Kaylee [kissing Mal on the cheek]: "I love my Captain." This episode Kaylee [reclaimed apple from River] : "No Power in the 'Verse can stop me!" River [claimed gun from Kaylee, eliminated three gunmen blindly] : "No Power in the 'Verse can stop me!" Kaylee from this point on, looking none too cheerful.
kaylee would be the most powerful member of the group if she could manage to be that cheerful _despite_ the horrors of the 'verse, rather than because she's protected from them.
Holy shit... that's an amazing catch. I've watched this series a hundred times and I never put that together. Absolutely incredible. Had to be deliberate, right?

7:31 "Only imerial stormtroopers are that precise"(c) There was a scene in the original script, where Inara visited the councillor, at her home, and asks to pressure Niska into releasing Mal. The councillor is very uncomfortable - her husband is in the next room, and she does not want him to know she engaged Inara - but still refuses to help, explaining that Niska is so powerful, he is basically independent from the planetary government. When Wash and Zoe leave the kitchen, Wash slaps his wife's butt. That was actually Alan Tudyk's idea (which he vetted with Gina Torres, but nobody else). He wanted to show more definitively that Wash sometimes takes the lead in their marriage.
Dawn! Love how much you've fallen in love with FIREFLY, such an amazing show gone before it had a chance. I'd love to make a recommendation for you if I may, another very similar show that came out around the same time. There was a Sci-fi channel show called FARSCAPE that had very much the same feel as Firefly....Amazing stories and writing, fantastic character development, a great sense of quirky humor and great effects. Plus, it ran for 4 seasons & had an end series movie too! If you're looking for a good show to binge watch after Serenity, give FARSCAPE a shot, you won't be sorry!
Farscape is good, but it's not the same quality as Firefly. Didn't have the same budget (Firefly was super high budget for a TV show) and the prosthetics were tough to get used to. Even when it came out it felt like an 80's show almost. But once you get past that it's quite good. The two main actors (who went to Stargate SG-1 after Farscape ended) were very good.
IF I had to choose my favorit 3 episodes I think it would be "Our Mrs. Reynolds", "War Stories" and "Objects in Space", with the last one maybe being my no. 1. But all episodes are great and have so many great moments and quotes.
Something I realized while watching your reaction. Jayne equipped himself and went in to help save Mal, when Mal was the only one who knew what he did on Ariel.
I see your point, but on the other hand, he didn‘t really have a choice. Assuming he didn‘t help with the rescue. If the crew had made it back on board (with or without Mal), he‘d have been screwed within the crew, but if they didn‘t, he‘d have been screwed with Niska anyway. So increasing the odds for the crew to make it back on board while „looking good“ was really his only viable option.
I've got to make your laugh into a ring tone! So much fun watching you react to these. Yes...River is showing her "weapon potential". So few episodes...and not ONE of them is less than stellar.
Interesting, you maybe right but I've always seen it a little differently, of course she loves him but to me it's part of the thing Wash hasn't understood til this point - She is a soldier, and a damn good one. She makes necessary choices (like Mal) and there is no way Wash would survive on his own. Mal has a chance (both because of his past and also because Niska wanted to torture him). She has a better chance of a follow up rescue with her top pilot. Wash was building resentment as he could never have the sort of bond Mal and Zoe have, didn't understand what it cost to have it. I love that through this he learns the cost in being that sort of person, which included leaving Mal behind, and thats not him - he needed Mal to keep him from breaking. Likewise he understands what he means to Zoe and brings to the table.
I have decided that your unexpected laugh is the best part. Cracks me up when you just lose is out of the blue. Great reaction as always Lady Dawn and be well. 😄

14:37 River's skills with gun are incredibly impressive, but her mental instability makes them terrifying. Remember when River cut Jayne's chest open because she thought he looked better in red? Imagine if she gets in that mood again, but picks up a gun instead of a knife.
I'm with Kaylee. River has trauma and that cutting thing on Jayne was out of character, but now she effortlessly kills people with a smile? Terrifying is the exact right word.
@LordNelsonkm But the crew doesn't know that, and what happens if someone else decides to wear some Blue Sun Corp clothing while River is holding a gun?
"War Stories": The return of Adelai Niska, Wash goes on a job, Mal keeps Wash up to date, the crew goes into attack mode and River displays an Alliance skill.

Since I don't wish to hype up any expectations, I'll only tell you the 4th one after you see it. This episode is about loyalty. Jayne's loyalty has really grown since the first time we saw Niska. The crew noticed this - Especially Zoe. Mal has almost superhuman fortitude when it comes to protecting his crew. Keeping Wash angry & distracted during the torture kept Wash from succumbing and probably dying. Wash learns on a deeper level why Zoe has such strong loyalty to Mal. Zoe learns she has to prioritize her loyalty to her husband first.
