  • This video shows you the trick on how to draw almost anything by breaking it down into the simplest shapes. Use cubes and cylinders to recreate everything within your drawings. With the knowledge from my previous fundamentals videos this is the next step towards better drawing.

That's incredible! As a total beginner I always start drawing a complex object as a complex object instead of drawing it from simple shapes. Thanks!

I work with 3D mechanical design for about 14 years now, but I never actually had drawn even a signle shape (correctly) by hand. So I found those videos and there crazy good! I mean my brain is making those crazy connections now between the shapes and how to draw them .

I think a great way for people to understand the importance of basic shapes and forms is: Put yourself in the shoes of a 3D artist. If you are trying to get into a design job, eventually your designs will need to be handed off to a 3D artist to model. Now fortunately for the 3D artist they are given the shapes and forms automatically. Perspective is done for them. Unfortunately for us designers, if we get even one angle wrong, the poor 3D artist will be scratching their head trying to figure out why what they are doing is looking wrong. They start out with basic shapes and they make cuts and extrudes and bevels and projections and whatever else they need to, to get that basic shape to look like our designs. And their programs they use are very precise! So it makes sense that we should aim for that level of precision. Draw like a 3D artist models! The chances for mistakes will go way down..
And honestly I find it fun to be this precise. Freehand doodling has its place... but eventually you will need to design something that only exists in your brain. And for that, it's very helpful to know how to draw, even a cube, in perspective, at any angle. If you can do a cube, you can make a series of cuts to practically make it any shape.

@@robertlkiss I wish... this university requires around 20 50x70cm project sketches, all traditional media. You can add digital, but they should not be included in the 20 drawings (or 2 A3 drawings on a page).
The admission exam is also on paper, so... we can't cheat 😂

ok this channel is so helpful, so many drawing tutorial channels go on and on about every detail of drawing people, but what about STUFF. Like I've been struggling trying to figure out how to draw cars and this one video made it made it so much more approachable.

I subscribed to your channel a couple years ago, but I was a dumbass and didn't take that stuff seriously. Now that I have practiced "my own way", I stumbled upon some road blocks and had many questions, (mainly due to my suffering fundamentals, lol), I rediscovered your valuable videos and I am getting the answers I am looking for. Thank u very much.
