my biggest hope following this announcement is that wotc looks at the positive response to it and decides to swing for the fences more with unbans. it makes players excited and can do a lot to revitalize the format after a depressing period like the boros/ring dominance we just had.
IMO this was the perfect ban (unban) announcement. They really put a lot of thought and effort into this one. Props to WOTC. Hopefully this becomes a trend. 😅
I would argue that the "ban on schedule" vs banning when somethings a problem issue is not about player confidence, it's about buyer confidence. Player confidence is way more hurt by the fact that wotc is openly hesitant to ban things at all than it would be if wotc was openly okay with banning on a dime
psychic frog being banned from legacy is a good thing, it's too format warping, and it shuts out other creature decks pretty hard. vexing bauble is fine vs combo decks, but the problem is that combo decks were running it to protect their combo turns from force of will- which is not fine
13:02 the jist is that this was a miserly ban list in that it fit the bare minimum (though, arguably, they pulled the trigger a little too quick on vauble lmao). nadu has been called out by wotc but, much like frog and grief before it, is basically guarenteed to ravage the format for another three months while we all knew it should have been banned now.
Two thoughts. First, Faithless Looting worries me. Even before Hogaak, decks were running nine sideboard cards that could be graveyard hate. That's not a healthy format. Two, I think they did the bare minimum for Legacy. I wish they did a lot more.
They have no chocie but to play whack-a-mole with Legacy because Legacy players don't want to hear about ancient tomb, brainstorm, wasteland etc being problems.
@@Martin-qb2mw Wasteland a problem? Dear lord how many other lands you would have to ban without it. It is the glue that keeps it together. To OP Legacy has always been more reserved with the bans because it can withstand more "broken" things due to Force of Will and Daze.
Insight for legacy: Psychic Frog won't be missed and Vexing Bauble was an abomination, but they have not addressed any of the other power outliers like Entomb, Nadu, and the Eldrazi strategy as a whole. The format might not even improve with Psychic Frog gone, because it means Orcish Bowmasters goes back into every deck. Lightning Bolt isn't necessarily more playable than before because Nadu is immune to it. We really, really could have used an unban to bolster control like Mana Drain. Feels like our format is being largely ignored.
@busTedOaS Control decks have basically been pushed out of the meta entirely. Counterspell is basically not good enough in Legacy nowadays so mana drain might be good enough to see a spot.
When I was playing a Mardu reaninimator deck for fun before the bans and now I'm straight rakdos reanimater with a fomo drc delirium package to go along with archon. This deck smacks hard it smacks fast and I get great sb hate for affinity. Lets go it magical Christmas land baby
I had the same reaction as yours but with Faithless Looting, as my 1st deck was Izzet Phoenix. I qualified for a PTQ with it, and FL got banned and couldn't play it. I was devastated. WotC in Christmas mode !
@JohnFromAccounting not saying that Amulet of Vigor isn't broken, but, as long as bouncelands exist, Summer Bloom is kinda just broken on it's own. Before it was banned, I lost plenty of games to Amulet Titan where they didn't find an amulet, they just (basically) went t1 forest, t2 forest, summer bloom, play two bouncelands and one of the forests, t3 forest Primeval Titan. Like, completely disregarding Amulet of Vigor as a card, for the cost of including a good number of bouncelands in your deck, Summer Bloom can singlehandedly ramp you from 2 mana on turn 2 to 6 mana on turn 3, which is an INSANE amount of ramp for a single card to be able to provide.
Glad to see the unbans. I think it might’ve been safer to unban the artifact lands than Mopal because of Grinding Breach Combo, but I’m excited for the new format
"if they banned Jegantha in Pioneer, It would make sense to ban It in Modern as well" It would make sense to ban It in Historic as well but I GUESS NOT, no One cares about Arena players.
@coreyodell6220 no one at WotC apparently does, so why should players care? Explorer Is now Pioneer, but there are no events. Standard Is great, but they are pushing Paper play more than Digital. Every other format Is ignored. RIP Arena i Guess.
I'm a big fan of scheduled announcements; I want to know that if I buy into a busted deck, I can trust I can keep playing it for at least a predetermined amount of time.
I’m in the same boat. I just spent a lot of money to play energy cards even before they became popular 😅 I feel like I can trust WOTC finally to not ban cards I just bought from a new set, especially the chase cards. 🎉
And it's going to stay legal until it's a problem. Right now it's in one deck and that deck, while persistently good, is not taking over the format or suppressing other decks.
@kmp101 Yep. Unique circumstances where the bird and the draw card complement each other. So unique no other deck runs it. There is zero reason to ban treasure cruise.
@@Hapkins-le6xf Just because a card is played in only one deck does not mean it is not broken. Winota, Karn, Inverter were all in one deck. Cruise is broken. Drawing 4 for 1 after playing Artists Talent is BROKEN. Only DB bird players think otherwise.
@kmp101 so broken it's used in 1 deck. A deck that isn't even dominating the meta. Phoenix is currently at 8.7% percent of the meta share, with the next deck (niv) being at 7.8%. What's in first? Rakdos midrange at 24%. It's absolutely ridiculous that you are focusing on cruise, it's not a problem. From the card usage page on mtggolfish, fatal push is in 47% of decks, thoughtseize is in 40% of decks, and treasure cruise is in 8% of decks. Half of all decks are black for fatal push and thoughtseize but treasure cruise is somehow the problem. How about you just admit that you hate phoenix and want the deck to die? Just be honest.
Oh look no mythic or rare bans from energy…. Just like i said. Nadu got hit and energy would need cards banned… and just like predicted it wasn’t any chase cards. The clown show continues.
There are too many calls to action in the video. I want your channel to succeed but I can't stand being told to comment every 3 minutes. These bans are reasonable and mostly expected. The unbans are basically reckless. Spike's point about the B&R announcement cadence is good. If they're going to "shake up" the format like this, they need reasonable safety valves! I guess now we pray the format doesn't end up even more borked than before.
I bought a shovel and unburied my affinity deck which was buried in my back yard since January 2020
Did you originally bury it with your hands or what
@@AaronRotenberg or misplaced the shovel in the last few years. XD

Your reaction to Mox Opal: priceless.
nice job putting pants on d00mwake mr editor
I'll have you know I had sweats on the whole time 😡
Great reaction video. Wildest banlist announcement ever, I am so hyped to brew and play modern again !!

Faithless looting (and Opal) are huge boons for Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar. GSZ is pretty good for Samwise/Amalia decks as well
Lantern player here.. All 15 of us cried when we heard the news. We're so back!
My guess is that looting and opal will be re-banned in the future. Twin and GSZ are whatever.
“Initial unbanning!”
Bruh, I want DRS: fight me!
specially with faithless in format, would work for your own and against graveyard strategies amd targetable with green suns
I don't know if Twin is good enough but it is a deck that would finally utilize the Preordain unbanning (that had next to no impact on Modern)
Basically, if companion sees substantial play, it needs to get banned. They should errata the mechanic out of existence.
Psyched that Mox Opal is back, even though it's price just jumped 50$ in a day
Here’s to hoping a random side set reprint (not even sure what that would be)
Never seen d00m genuinly hype scream, refreshing 😂

Protean Hulk turn 2 kills activated aka slaughter pact + Persist. 😊

I really *really* hope that if GSZ makes titan too good in modern, they take that as a problem with the titan deck, and not GSZ.
Amulet of Vigor should have been banned instead of Summer Bloom.

You guys are still crying about Titan in 2024 (almost 2025)? Lmfao
Ring is the same card and maybe was better for titan then GSZ.
Isnt Elk and Raptor bans hitting jund/gruul decks as well ? Even if not that present in the meta
Glad to see the unbans. I think it might’ve been safer to unban the artifact lands than Mopal because of Grinding Breach Combo, but I’m excited for the new format
Wow absolutely loved watching this reaction lmao
Wotc unbanning mox opal, will reban it in 3 months, just to mess with doomwake
(And obviously for power level reasons)
Best 3 months of my life
Splinter twin will be mid IMHO, the other three are very welcome! Feels like looting and mopal are the identity, along tron lands, titan and such
SGZ in Titan is pretty good 😂
07:38 to 07:52 is gold. I had the same reaction hahaha
Woohooo fun times!!!
7:39 That reaction, lol. 👍
unban twin = all decks that dare to tap out are unplayable.
I bet they’ll reprint mox opal in the new kaladesh set and this is a scheme.

smacks lips: EDITOR can you please *insert thing the editor has to do here*
i think u have to think about magic as money and people dont wanna lose Money asap, the fact that at least u can gamble the ban
I disagree. Some people love losing money. That's why packs/loot boxes exist and sell so well. Also have you heard of Vegas?
Day 48 of asking for Tron lands on arena
And Eldrazi Temple!!!
@CasualKing21 finally some good ideas
