There’s just something so respect-demanding about the real giant herbivores of our world. Without even knowing much about them, seeing a physical bison, moose, elephant, etc creates an innate sense of awe and understanding of said creatures being a threat by size alone. Same can be understood of the sauropods by skeleton alone. Gammoth deserves to create those feelings.

The queen herself. I remember commented ages ago about wanting a video on her, and after so long she's the one to close out the Fated Four.
Gammoth's rivalry always felt the most natural out of them all. Tigrex is designed to feel like this ancient predator, literally having T-Rex inspirations. And so what better to have as a rival than a gigantic, ancient herbivore based off Mammoths? It's aesthetically and thematically just so right. And the in the intro, the part where she just throws Tigrex off her face always felt just so powerful and raw.
We can only hope for her return. Her and Lagiacrus being the only flagships to miss 5th gen, with both of their absences being really pronounced with Lagi's cut from the original World beta, and the fact Gammoth was the only one of the 4 left out, ideally that notability helps them get top billing and care for the next game.

Honestly an idea I had for Gammoth to got get cheese from behind was to use her nose vacuume move to pull those hunters from behind her to be underperformed for crushing or towards the trunk for a grab and throw or to go under the front legs for a kick or stomp. The nose suck is already in the actual move set so why not use its properties to force hunters out of ideal positioning

  • @sellerandtrader8150
    @sellerandtrader8150 Год назад +115

Okay so about Gammoth's wierd colorful fur pattern. With the shape of her body with it getting more narrow and lower to the ground as you move towards her back legs, it kind of makes the shape of a big dragon head. Along with the giant white and black spot near her shoulders it sort of resembles an eye to me.
So my thinking is that the bright fur pattern might be a left over thing from when Gammoths were still smaller more elephant sized mammals, and that the fur pattern in a blizzard or even just a flurry could mistake a predator that Gammoth is actually a much larger animal.

  • @jepr91

On the topic of a Gammoth hunt, her huge size and slow speed could possible be a decent fit for a siege hunt similar to Kulve Taroth or Raging Brachydios. With a map that is simultaneously designed to be a normal cold map, like the Frost Islands, and somewhat of a siege map where she takes one of X amount of paths to a specific location only she can open up due to her THICCness (like how originally only Deviljho could break into the secret areas in the Tundra map), where she basically becomes Elderfrost (much like how Raging Brachydios when nuclear in the final area) but WAY better. As the fight goes on, she does get more moves and becomes either faster or can combo/link more attacks together in ways that can catch players off guard. She could also have unique ways of interacting with the environment, maybe taking cues from Banbaro and his boulder/tree shenanigans or causing quakes that result in changing the shape of the area, things falling from the ceiling, small avalanches from the sides of the area.

Another banger of a video. Gammoth is easily my favorite of the Fated Four and a contender for favorite flagship if all FF members count as flagships. The deep dive here was amazing, and if MH ever goes open world I can EASILY see Gammoth being the star of the signature tundra biome. Seeing this hulking figure from miles away, slowly trotting across the plains, or seeing the tops of trees sway as she pushes her way through a polar forest, would be a sight to see. The idea of male Gammoth making an appearance would truly be a sight to see, seeing the opposite sex of the FF appear along the same lines as Rathian and Rathalos do would be something else. I may try my hand at drawing a male Gammoth based on the description in this video. On the topic of summer though, how much of a visual difference do you reckon the MH team would go through with a summer coat vs a winter one? Would the bright colours still be present in the underlying lairs of fur or could that simply be something only present in winter coats for signaling in poor visibility?
Also really excited for the next monster, Nibbelsnarf has so much potential for ecology and interaction with other desert specialists.

I have never clicked on a notification faster I have been WAITING for this day to come Gammoth my baby
Edit: truth be told, I’d always assumed Gammoth’s trunk spines were both for self-defense and a pseudo-second lip for their trunk, given their curved shape would allow for somewhat better grip than the flat trunk that would otherwise exist without them
Edit 2: I’ve always assumed that the interactions between Gammoth and Barioth are more undocumented than anything else, given the season and time of year in which we enter the mountains. It’s also entirely possible that Barioth hunts the calves and younger Gammoth exclusively, and leaves the adults alone entirely
Edit 3: Good lord Gammoth Musth is a terrifying idea, although I think that elderfrost individuals, being simply said that it’s an old matriarch, could be either sex of Gammoth…although now I’m thinking of Elderfrost Musth and uh my god wtf nope
Edit 4: Gammoth would be a great candidate for a world-style rework, and to me personally that Gammoth is the poster child for “Capcom treats their herbivores like jokes”
Edit 5: on rewatch (again), there’s a couple things I noted: One) your mention of “exceptionally hungry predators” being the only ones often brazen enough to go after Gammoth and other such protectors leads me to believe that Deviljho and Gammoth might have Some sort of hostile relationship, although given the scarcity of both its unlikely that the Guild has documented it

One thing you mentioned in the creature design video is Gammoth's color scheme. Even with the suggestion of intraspecific communication, I feel Gammoth could easily accomplish that with more muted browns and whites that don't feel so out of place in such snowy environments. The color scheme as of now, I definitely agree fits better on something like the Blos wyverns.

@@delmerputnam1679 the thing that gets me the most about it is that it's a seemingly small difference that was probably added to give the design some additional flare, but I feel like this change would have a massive cascading effect on gammoth's use of it's tusks in drastic ways. The jaws would have to be ridiculously strong, not only to support the weight of such massive tusks, but to also withstand all the stresses they're going to be under in their day to day use. If they protruded from the upper jaw this issue would be mitigated because the connection between the neck and the head is by design meant to be rigid, whilst the jaws are meant to be a hinge that can move freely so it would be way worse at bearing stress, unless massively reinforced. And now all of this begs the question, what is the benefit of this seemingly worse tusk arrangement?

@@unnaturalhistorychannel Why slowly chip away at awful hitzones when the trunk is an easy to access 63 zone that ends the hunt in a 3rd of the time. If the head currently isn't acessible you still have the front legs which are better hitzones and topple upon break. Gammoth is a pretty fun fight when you do it properly. Elderfrost is even greater with the better moveset and AI and basically forces you aways from back legs with even worse hitzones and higher stats.

It's worth pointing out, on the topic of tusk wear, that Gammoth's moveset in their fight is a brilliant demonstration of why it's tusks are so worn down. You can frequently see her grinding her tusks into the ground to smash you, and I particularly remember it driving its tusks _through_ the ground in a charging "uppercut" that sends snow and ice flying.
That's another thing I'd like to call attention to. It's sort of a given since this is an elephantine creature, but we know it likes to use its environment in a fight since we can observe it using the snow around it for several different moves - lobbing snowballs like a mortar and the aforementioned snow charge. This gives credence to your idea for a future rendition of Gammoth swinging trees and triggering avalanches. It's certainly smart enough and willing to, if we stress one out enough.

Gammoth has my favorite theme for the fated four, and I´d love to see her in proper turf wars against other predators like Barioth or Glacial Agnaktor, and Deviljho could be used to show how strong Gammoth really is, maybe Deviljho grabbing one of her tusks, and getting thrown to the ground by the pretty obvious weight difference and how Gammoth skeleton is built, but since Capcom usually goes out of their way to make ´Jho look badass, it might end with a tie, also Rajang may come in handy to off strength.

one thing i would like for them to do with Gammoth fight is seismic attacks like their physical strengh is so great that they create shock waves and changes in the terrain, with the males being so strong that they are at almost mythical levels power explaining why they are not hunted (maybe even creating a new ELDER category but for fanged beasts this time), as for a possible story how we could enter in a fight with a male i came up with this:
there is a reason why killing a baby gammoth seems to be a taboo, is to no invoke the wrath of a male in retaliation, males maybe can protect the young directly but they can help the species by creating a safe zone with a lack of larger predators that would put their calfs and popos (that would also explaing how popos can be such wide spread species even tho they are hunted by everything) so when a male finds a freash killed gammoth calf they enter in a alarmed/rage state similar to a must where they are searching in a angry rampage for the threat within their safe zone, they can be smarth enough to reconize by the wounds on the copse what killed the calf if was a trigrex or hunters
the story qould be , a foolish hunter breaks the taboo of hunting a gammoth calf for some reason this results in a adult male gammoth charging into the villager in a blind rage and we for the safety of the people have to put it down
kinda dumb but i think would be cool

Really like the explanation for Gammoth being covered in such a massive coat of fur (while the wyverns in the area completely lack that), how she cares for her young (and why that involves Popo herds), etc. All of it was absolutely fascinating.

I'm really really worried that they are going to tone down Gammoth's size significantly, not only to make it an easier fight to design but also to just bring home the fact that Gammoth isn't as threatening as some other Monsters who have laser beams or explode. They seriously need to make Gammoth better but I feel like any concessions would drastically take away from what made Gammoth so special despite the issues with it. I've always been a fan of Monsters who are strong simply from size and strength, I don't want to lose another one.

Honestly I’m not too worried about them making adult Gammoth smaller (I have a feeling if they were willing to do that we’d seen it in Iceborne…same with Uklanos now thinking about it as well) but I am worried about making Gammoth standard Apex level despite the fact that it’s massive and very clearly dominates Tigrex in its intro cutscene.
I do feel like at the very least they could make Gammoth a fair bit faster both to help fit the faster combat of at least the portable games while giving her more attacks to work with instead of the strong but slow ones she’s mostly associated with (although I do think those attacks can stay, maybe sped up a little bit)

Imagine if a Male Gammoth had multiple enraged states like Unknown, because its in musth.
Additionally I would love if there was a rare species of Gammoth that was only the size of an African Bush Elephant because of Island Dwarfism, plus it would be an easy way to give Gammoth water element. With the rare species being much smaller it could also be much faster, maybe it could also use a Barroth style mud armor.
And finally it’d be neat if Baby Gammoth could be found in Popo herds as a small monster, it could also have a unique interaction with either a Gammoth or Tigrex.

  • @TheOdinsLance

I think a territorial gammoth variant would make a great antagonist for at least one section of a monster hunter game. Perhaps it would be a black diabolos situation where it's just a regular gammoth going through a hormonal period. It would also be interesting twist on that idea as well: black diabolos is a hormonal female and black gammoth is a hormonal male.
Having to plan around and escape from a gammoth that you're just not prepared for would be an interesting take on an antagonistic monster.
I think it would make for a very tense, cat-and-mouse style story. And when you finally have the strength to fight it they could give the encounter a special battle theme to make it especially epic.

The ideas you just threw around for a potential 6th or later gen reimagining are so cool. I also think that she should not only be a huge, fluffy, unstoppable force, but should also be an intelligent one. Modern day elephants are famous for their intelligence, and I think if that could be demonstrated with heavy tool use and manipulation of the environment. Throwing boulders at hunters out of its range, bashing the walls of caves to force icicles to fall from the ceiling, force avalanches of its own. The potential turf wars would be cool too, obviously shaking off psuedo wyverns like Tigrex and Barrioth, but also ramming down or using tools like boulders and trees against ground based monsters like Goss Harag, Zamtrios, or even Deviljho.

  • @l.t.c3847

The point at the end about her size and power is so spot on. Aside from maybe velkhana and Savage ‘jho, nothing encountered in the tundra should have any shot at even tieing a turf war with gammoth, nevermind an elderfrost or the elusive bull.
But as things are right now the system would see her on par with barioth, tigrex, fulgerjath, stygian and legiana, which is patently rediculous.
I can’t even really see the anime monkey having anything to do with a gammoth, they have no competition overlap and at her sheer size it would be a MASSIVE risk to get close to her, and I frankly don’t even buy that the lightning beam would do much to her.
Ideally I’d want to see a roaming gammoth and her calf in a large tundra environment, there from the first quest you do there. You could lure predators near the baby, at great risk to yourself, to get some free damage on them as gammoth whallops them for daring to come near her baby. In a smart enough AI system perhaps the mother would remember you doing that and would become progressively more agressive toward you as she figured out “hey that’s the naked monkey that’s always being followed by stuff that wants to eat my baby again”

27:13 This is part of why I both dislike Banbaro and why it excites me. Many things about Banbaro feel rather rushed, namely its enormous size respective of its hunter rank, and its status as an invader. To me, Banbaro is almost the Magma Almudron of Iceborne, a monster that says "We're sorry we couldn't bring back one of the most anticipated but most technologically taxing monsters of this environment. However, we ARE working on it."
5th gen was pretty obviously still ironing out some of the folds that such a massive overhaul inevitably brings. They did a fantastic job diversifying the roster with the skeletons they were given, but with the advent of sixth gen's trailer being a very likely TGS appearance, I have confidence that the monsters Capcom have struggled to bring back will return in the glory they deserve. Agnaktor, Gammoth, 4th gen's bugs and most importantly, Lagiacrus, are right around the corner!
    Great video, as per usual!

Reading some stuff about Banbaro, I can sort of see why it was made an invader due to the simplicity of its attacks and the fact it can replicate the blights in multiple environments. That said, the lore is still horrible that it ever leaves the Hoarfrost.
I did actually think it was a weird Duram subspecies seeing it in that first trailer.
I'm also hoping for a lot of the conspiciously-absent monsters to be back in 6 too. Add Gravios to that list as well. May next months finally give us something to properly speculate on!
