It appears the ladder is partitioned... If one is exiting a 3-rd flr egress, how does one open the 2-nd story portion of the ladder to continue down? If one exits the 2-nd flr egress, how is the ladder opened? This vid is a bit unclear.

Pulling the release pin releases any portion of the ladder under it, so if the 3rd flr pin is pulled the entire ladder opens.
