I was very close to my uncle. He trained me to box, however was always against it. Lee fought to feed his family and was not a fan of the abuse a boxer takes. Although, in almost every circumstance, when he was showing me some moves, he would light me up. Even as an elder statesman, he packed a punch!
My uncle Lee was a great guy. Sure had some great times with him as a kid. Joe Louis had glowing things to say about Lee Ramage, and his masterful defensive skills. He met him early in his career, when a seasoned Ramage gave him fits until Louis' power ended him in the eight round.
1941 Ring Magazine article, interview with Joe Louis. Joe says Lee Ramage was the best boxer he ever fought. Those who think Louis dominated have no clue. Louis hit Lee in the adams apple in this fight which almost killed Lee. In their first fight Louis didn't win a round until round 8. He broke Lee's arm with a hook in the 9th and the fight was over. Before you comment, learn some boxing history.
Not much of a fight here. Ramage looked to outbox Louis, but even so, Louis dominated in that facet as well at this stage of their career & Ramage got crunched in round 2
Understandable against Louis who was to become the best in Boxing History with the longest held (25 times) title defense on record, spanning close to 12 years in length. The Brown Bomber seems to be the most "complete" boxer that I have ever seen. If in Heaven we get to watch all the greats at their peak compete with one another...I'll pick Joe Louis every time. He had power that came from either hand, with a hit that damaged his opponents faces. Pushing some people's teeth through their mouth guards AND he was trained by a legend, Mr. Jack Blackburn.

I enjoyed watching your uncle. Sure got the living shit kicked out of him, eh?

Ramage was brilliant but let's not get past ourselves here, Louis utterly dominated this fight.
At 5:06 the announcer says Lee Ramage is in deep trouble. He could have said that at the opening bell
what a hook at the end....crunch
Louis is like the rising tide .... That poor guy was way out of his depth and paid for it by gettin ironed out
Actually he was good

Lots of damage, Ramage!
Unlike everyone else here, I'm not related to Lee Ramage.
I am related to Lee as well, my middle name is Lee.
That's how Louis would have fought Ali. I wonder how he'd do against Wilder etc.
Ali was bigger, stronger, and faster than Damage. Louis is far superior to Wilder in skill but idk how I like that match up.
@@therealc.t.7085Louis knocks them both out. The end.
Well, Ali might actually win but who knows.
All rampage did was dance around. He looked scared.
That was his style, he was he out fighter.
lee ramage is my son!
